Devil May Cry HD Collection
Dante is back, with his floppy hair, big sword and flair. Arguably some of the best games ever made finally appear on one disc. An HD collection well worth having

story
1,259 mentions Positive Neutral NegativeThe "story" aspect of the Devil May Cry series, particularly in the HD collection of the first three games, receives mixed reviews. While "Devil May Cry 3" is praised for its engaging narrative, character development, and emotional depth, particularly regarding the sibling rivalry between Dante and Vergil, "Devil May Cry 1" is seen as having a simple yet charming story that sets the stage for the series. In stark contrast, "Devil May Cry 2" is widely criticized for its lackluster and forgettable plot, with many players recommending it be skipped entirely. Overall, the series is noted for its over-the-top, campy storytelling that complements its action-packed gameplay.
“This collection was very much worth it for all 3 games, the story is incredible, and you really get invested in every character.”
“Devil May Cry 3: easily the best game in this bundle, sometimes it shows its age but not as much as the previous 2, great story, Dante's moveset, extra weapons, and styles are super fun.”
“DMC3: the best storyline in the DMC series, all the characters are interesting and cutscenes are very fun to watch.”
“Dmc2 - absolute garbage story and mid combat.”
“The story makes zero sense, scenarios and designs are horrible, combat (at least on normal) is as easy as spamming the guns button far away from the enemies.”
“The story is practically non-existent in the first game and only decent in the third.”

Devil May Cry HD Collection is one of the most lackadaisical remasters that I’ve ever played – featuring little improvements on the same collection that released for older consoles back in 2012. That being said, the sheer strength of the games included (Devil May Cry 2 notwithstanding) and the modest asking price still make it a more than viable way to experience these games before an inevitable sequel.

Available on Xbox One, PS4 (version tested) Devil May Cry deserves better. Six years ago, Capcom delivered Xbox 360 and PS3 remasters of the classic brawler trilogy. The visual upgrades were minimal, bar a hike in resolution to 780p, while the three games came complete with fuzzy 4:3 ratio video sequences, ugly pixelated fonts, and blotchy low-res textures throughout.
