- The detective gameplay is engaging, with multiple routes and choices that allow for different outcomes and replayability.

- The combat system is simplistic and repetitive, lacking depth and variety, which can detract from the overall enjoyment.
- The game can feel short and lacks substantial detective work, often resorting to fetch quests and scripted events.
- Players must download a patch to access adult content, which can be inconvenient and may lead to frustration if the patch doesn't work.
story
224 mentions Positive Neutral NegativeThe game's story is a blend of steampunk detective elements and adult themes, featuring a main narrative that is relatively short but offers branching paths based on player choices, such as siding with the police or a gang. While the quests are generally simple and often boil down to fetch tasks, the writing is engaging enough to keep players interested, though some feel the game sacrifices depth for adult content. Overall, the story is seen as entertaining with potential, but it lacks significant progression and depth in detective work.
“The story is fairly engaging, as are the combat mechanics (if a bit easy).”
“The game actually manages to capture the feel of a Sherlock Holmes story quite well, albeit in a simplified, cartoony, and sexy way.”
“The story is so good I never tired of replaying it over and over again.”
“The gameplay is just you doing quests (or minor tasks) that you need to complete but it doesn't matter since the story is on standstill and the story doesn't develop; it's more like a masturbating tool than anything backed with probably some of the best art I've seen from Clymenia, which has it as a good eye-catcher.”
“Clymenia games are straightforward and the purpose is for you to go nympho, but what Steam City fails at is the progress in story. In other Clymenia games, you might have tasks but you proceed to another level afterwards and that continues for a full-fledged story. Steam City only has two endings where you work with gangsters and beat all the floors in the slums for the 'gang ending' or you can do the 'police ending', which is the more 'Clymenia-like' route, basically doing the main tasks until you get the ending, but once again, there's no progression.”
“The 'mysteries' that you solve are all quite short and mostly boil down to simple fetch quests rather than any kind of puzzle solving.”
