  • It is free-to-play with a generous model that allows players to unlock characters and cards through gameplay rather than relying on microtransactions.
  • The developers are responsive to feedback and actively working on updates to improve the game, showing promise for future enhancements.
  • The game suffers from performance issues, including slow animations, laggy UI, and frequent crashes, which detract from the overall experience.

    18 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The gameplay is characterized by unique mechanics for each character and class, offering a fresh take on card game dynamics, though it suffers from slow pacing and a lack of balance among cards. While the tutorial effectively introduces players to the mechanics, many find the overall experience hindered by laggy UI and a grind-heavy progression system. Despite its entertaining elements and beautiful artwork, the game feels unfinished and may not hold players' interest long-term.

    • “Currently you pick from 11 different fighters, divided into 5 different classes which have unique mechanics for how they play their cards.”
    • “Each character has its own mechanic, which makes them more enjoyable to play with, not just a 'spam this card to win' situation.”
    • “The core gameplay is really fun and it's nice to see someone try something new in the card game space.”
    • “It would be really nice if there was a setting that let you change the animation speed, as it can feel really slow especially after you understand the game and mechanics.”
    • “Feels like a cash grab as is, to be honest. The flow of the game is hindered by lag, and the janky tutorial only has a class version and no character version, even though that is an option. The discard mechanic feels out of place, making certain characters feel better than others in terms of deck identity. For example, the Evangelist has to spend a lot of time passing turns to build up faith by spamming boons, which are the only cards they can play to get around their two-card-a-turn limit. This results in a lot of one attack, one defend, and then you just can't do anything or be punished, while other characters can just keep playing endlessly. Additionally, there are no discard synergies besides maybe healing a bit. It further doesn't help that you can only see one version of each character's deck in the tutorial, and afterwards characters can only be bought with real money/diamonds, which you earn at a very slow rate. I can't see this game going anywhere as it is with $70 purchases and an impossible free-to-play grind in an obviously unfinished and untested game.”
    • “Gameplay itself is slow, the cards are not appealing, and I don't even want to play after the tutorial.”
  • optimization
    7 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Overall, the game's optimization is criticized for being poor, with slow animations and performance issues that detract from the experience. While some players find the game entertaining and appreciate the developers' responsiveness in addressing these concerns, many feel it is unfinished and resembles a cash grab, particularly due to its monetization model and lack of character variety in the tutorial. Despite these issues, there is potential for improvement as updates are being rolled out.

    • “It has a lot of slow animations, and lacks optimization, but it's very entertaining and fun. You can tell it has a lot of heart. After trying it, I consider that this is a game that I would pay for, but it's free to play.”
    • “I've had some performance issues, but the dev team seems very responsive and is actively rolling out updates to address these concerns.”
    • “Edit: performance issues have been solved.”
    • “Feels like a cash grab as is, with the flow of the game, the lag, and the janky tutorial that only has a class version and no character version. The discard mechanic feels out of place, making certain characters feel better than others in terms of deck identity. The game is obviously unfinished, unoptimized, and untested, with a $70 purchase model and an impossible free-to-play grind.”
    • “It's very well constructed but poorly optimized.”
    • “It runs slowly and the time for every animation is slow.”
  • graphics
    7 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The graphics of the game are generally praised for their beautiful artwork and unique comic book style, enhancing the overall experience for card game fans. While some users note the presence of bugs and placeholder sound effects, the visuals are considered top-notch and contribute positively to gameplay. Overall, the aesthetic appeal and clarity of the graphics are highlighted as strong points, despite some ongoing development issues.

    • “Regardless, this is a very entertaining game with beautiful artwork & decent mechanics that card fans will enjoy.”
    • “I really like the graphics.”
    • “It has a decent look in terms of art style, but they definitely have some 'placeholder' sound effects (the voice 'pass' for one - there's no way they intend that to be the actual turn pass sound, surely).”
    • “Game definitely has its own style aesthetically.”
    • “The artwork of the cards makes everything easy to understand and follow without making you worry that you won't retain what you learn.”
  • stability
    4 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's stability has improved since its early access phase, but users still report significant bugs, particularly in multiplayer and online features. While these issues have led to negative reviews, players appreciate the developers' responsiveness and express optimism for future improvements.

    • “The client used to be more buggy during early access, which resulted in negative reviews.”
    • “It's too buggy.”
    • “I really like this game, but it is so buggy!”
  • music
    4 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The music in the game receives mixed reviews, with some users criticizing the soundtrack as outdated and lacking quality, while others appreciate the audio, highlighting the cool music and sound effects.

    • “The audio is also great, with cool music and sound effects.”
    • “Horrible music.”
    • “My gripe with the sound is primarily the soundtrack.”
    • “The last time I heard a mono soundtrack, I was playing Pokémon on the GBA.”
  • story
    3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The story aspect of the game is criticized for feeling repetitive and lacking depth, with players forced to experience the same narrative elements during each run without the option to skip. Additionally, the game's monetization strategy and unbalanced mechanics detract from the overall enjoyment, leading some to view it as a cash grab rather than a well-developed experience. Overall, the narrative fails to engage players, contributing to a sense of frustration with the gameplay.

    • “In PvE, you can take on multiple missions against a decent roster of unique enemies in a roguelike system, acquiring cards, allies, and items, and try to take on powerful bosses.”
    • “You are forced through some story every time you run through, and it's the same stuff over and over with no way to skip or go fast.”
    • “Feels like a cash grab as is tbh with the flow of the game the lag the janky tutorial that only has a class version and no character version even though that is an option. The discard mechanic feels out of place here in terms of play for me as it makes certain characters feel better than others in terms of deck identity.”
  • monetization
    3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The monetization aspect of the game has received mixed reviews, with some players feeling it resembles a cash grab due to high costs for character access and a challenging free-to-play grind. Others, however, describe it as player-friendly, suggesting that while there are monetization elements, they do not significantly detract from the overall experience. Overall, the game's monetization strategy appears to be a point of contention among users, with concerns about balance and accessibility.

    • “The monetization is very player-friendly as well.”
    • “The in-game purchases are fair and don't feel necessary to enjoy the game.”
    • “I appreciate that the game offers plenty of free content without pushing for purchases.”
    • “Feels like a cash grab with the flow of the game, the lag, and the janky tutorial that only has a class version and no character version, even though that is an option. The discard mechanic feels out of place, making certain characters feel better than others in terms of deck identity. For example, the Evangelist has no choice but to spend a lot of time passing turns to build up faith by spamming boons, which are the only cards they can play to get around their 2 card per turn limit. This leads to a lot of one attack, one defend, and then you just can't do anything or be punished, while other characters can just brick endlessly. Additionally, characters can only be bought with real money/diamonds, which you earn at a rate of 1 per mission/achievement. I can't see this game going anywhere with $70 purchases and an impossible free-to-play grind in an obviously unfinished and untested game. I would definitely wait to put money into the game.”
    • “The monetization system is frustrating, as it feels like a constant push to spend real money. The game offers very little in terms of free rewards, making it hard to progress without shelling out cash. This creates a barrier that discourages players from fully enjoying the game.”
    • “The monetization model is heavily skewed towards encouraging players to spend money, which detracts from the overall experience. It feels like the game is designed more to extract money from players than to provide a balanced and enjoyable gameplay experience.”
