While I wish it was longer than it is, Crisis on the Planet of the Apes provides some fun gunplay and neat climbing mechanics. Easily one of the best VR movie tie-ins.

Players assume the role of an ape with advanced intelligence, navigating through a human-controlled facility to save their kind. The gameplay has received mixed reviews, with players praising the cover mechanic but criticizing the awkward locomotion and movement controls, which many find frustrating and cumbersome. While some enjoy the overall experience, others describe it as boring and plagued by bugs, leading to a lack of engagement. Overall, the game presents a visually appealing package but suffers from significant gameplay issues that detract from the enjoyment.
“Love the cover mechanic with grabbing onto the scenery.”
“The cover mechanic means grabbing onto an object like a wall or box and pulling your camera view around to take cover, instead of simply ducking and moving into cover with your physical body.”
“While the movement control choice is horrible and awkward, and while there are a few game-breaking bugs, the gameplay is overall enjoyable and the graphics are okay.”
“One of the worst gameplay experiences in VR games that I've ever played.”
“If you want a quick review, the game is boring, the controls are annoying for many reasons, and there are mechanics that are also boring and annoying at the same time.”
“The movement mechanics would be okay if you did not have to constantly point at the silhouette to indicate when you want to start the swinging locomotion.”

The graphics in the game are widely praised for their realism and high quality, contributing to a strong sense of immersion, particularly in VR. However, while the visual presentation is impressive, it is somewhat overshadowed by issues with locomotion and control mechanics. Overall, the graphics are considered a standout feature, despite some technical flaws.
“The graphics are some of the most realistic that VR has to offer; you can actually see the fur on your ape buddies.”
“The graphics are amazing and the immersion is very high. If you want to show someone VR, you should do that, but beware the controls.”
“Graphics are pretty damn good.”
“While the game has an overall great presentation in terms of both gameplay and graphics, its biggest hindrance is its abysmal locomotion.”
“Graphics are great, but the movement sucks; all in all, it's just okay.”

The story aspect of the game receives mixed reviews, with some players noting it as minimal and lacking depth, while others find it interesting despite the game's flaws. The narrative is often overshadowed by gameplay issues and technical glitches, leading to frustration among players. Overall, while the story has potential, it is not enough to elevate the experience for many.
“The story, sound, and voice acting also aren't bad.”
“The apes look great, the story is interesting, and the gameplay is fun.”
“A really solid shooter, with a bit of story.”
“There is practically no story.”
“Now just note if you like the movies, don't play this game; this will make you hate the movies more. I don't know if this was made by the people who made the movies, but still, you make the button crap, you make the combat crap. Now for the story, I don't know because I did not finish it well because the game did not work for me. But to the dev of this game in the future, don't make any games like this, and if you do have games like this, fix them please, for the love of God. People will be proud of you; they even might just hug you.”
“The AI sucks...a lot. The shooting is just covering and shooting the enemies when they rise their heads out of cover...then you advance...and there is a story in between, and people insulting you to add more realism.”

“The controls sometimes feel buggy.”
“I was enjoying myself for a bit until there were frequent glitches that caused me to restart missions and not be able to finish them.”
“Cons: glitches galore, walking was god awful.”

Players find the grinding aspect of the game to be tedious, particularly due to the necessity of recalibrating every time they start, which can detract from the overall experience.
“Every time you start the game, you have to redo the calibration. It's not horrible, but it becomes very tedious.”
“The grinding feels endless and repetitive, making it hard to stay engaged with the game.”
“I find myself doing the same tasks over and over again, which really drains the fun out of the experience.”

Simian VR shooter Crisis On the Planet of the Apes is repetitive, faulty, and more dated than the original Charlton Heston movie.
