    329 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The gameplay of BMX Streets has received mixed reviews, with many players noting a steep learning curve and a variety of mechanics that can feel unpolished or frustrating. While some appreciate the depth and realism of the physics and trick mechanics, others criticize the controls as clunky and the overall experience as lacking polish, often comparing it unfavorably to its predecessor, Pipe. Despite these issues, many players find the gameplay rewarding once they adapt to the mechanics, suggesting that the game has potential but requires significant improvements and refinements.

    • “That said, I will still recommend this game - the actual gameplay is a ton of fun, the physics are incredible, and so far it seems like the developer is committed to making the game the best it can be.”
    • “Once you get a feel for the new gameplay... it is an absolute blast.”
    • “Once you've acclimated to the controls, however, BMX Streets truly comes into its own, offering a gameplay experience that is nothing short of exhilarating.”
    • “The mechanics are broken, and the game purposely makes you fail missions!”
    • “Definitely doesn’t feel like a finished game, lots of janky half-baked mechanics - especially concerning the free running.”
    • “The overall gameplay is so stiff, overcomplicated, and unnatural it's not even funny.”
  • stability
    223 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's stability has been widely criticized, with players reporting numerous bugs and glitches that significantly impact gameplay, including physics issues and game-breaking crashes. While some users note improvements following updates, many still find the game unplayable due to its clunky controls and persistent technical problems. Overall, the consensus is that the game feels unfinished and requires substantial polishing to reach its potential.

    • “Don’t listen to all the hate comments, it feels great and runs great even on my laptop.”
    • “Ignore negative reviews; the game runs great even on low-end PCs. The physics feel great and allow for way more creativity than was ever possible in Pipe. Money well spent, highly recommended.”
    • “Honest opinion: it is an $80 NZD game. I personally am glad I spent every penny on this game. I really love it; I've played about 400 hours on Pipe and have been waiting for 5 years. The game runs great, tricks are 10/10, and it's worth the $80 NZD in my opinion. There are mod maps, so you'll never get bored of the old maps when there are new ones every couple of weeks.”
    • “The bugs and glitches are abundant, ranging from physics issues to game-breaking crashes.”
    • “Unfinished game, very buggy and wonky controls.”
    • “The game is still pretty buggy and the challenges are wack but the developer is constantly updating it since I've been playing; it's good enough for me to say you should get it only if you're willing to wait for more updates along the journey.”
  • story
    149 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's story aspect is largely criticized for its absence, with players expressing disappointment over the lack of a narrative or campaign mode, instead encountering a series of challenging missions that feel disconnected and often frustrating. Many reviews highlight that while the missions can be enjoyable and provide a sense of accomplishment, they lack depth and coherence, leading to a perception of the game as a collection of random challenges rather than a cohesive experience. Overall, players desire a more structured storyline to enhance the gameplay and provide a richer context for their BMX adventures.

    • “Challenges are fine but a story would have been great.”
    • “I had been loosely following the game for years on Instagram and probably just didn't realize, but I would have loved it if there was a story, starting out as an amateur, getting sponsors, competing, etc. I guess it's down to the size of the studio.”
    • “No storyline, just a bunch of challenges around the map currently, which is mainly all for unlocking customization parts.”
    • “I wish it had a 'story' mode and wasn't just an open world full of random challenges.”
    • “I think the lack of a campaign/story takes away a lot of value.”
  • graphics
    133 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The graphics of BMX Streets receive mixed reviews, with some players praising the improved visuals and sharpness compared to its predecessor, Pipe, while others criticize the overall quality as lacking polish, particularly in certain assets like trees and anti-aliasing issues. Many users note that while the game has potential with its vibrant art style and customization options, it falls short of expectations for a title at its price point, often feeling dated or unfinished. Overall, the graphics are seen as a step up from previous iterations, but not without significant flaws that detract from the experience.

    • “The graphics are really good.”
    • “This game has the immersion, the art style and details all down and it's gonna be a good one for sure.”
    • “One of the first things you'll notice about BMX Streets is its breathtaking visuals.”
    • “Graphics are very dull until you deep dive the menus and start adding filters.”
    • “About half the game feels graphically nearly there but some assets really lack, like trees being flat, and a lot of anti-aliasing issues near the docks leading to graphical glitches/extreme flashing of the flags and thin objects near that area for me, despite having no performance issues.”
    • “The world doesn't feel realistic, textures and visuals aren't great, and sadly it's an empty city.”
  • optimization
    52 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's optimization has received mixed reviews, with many players noting significant performance issues, particularly in single-player modes, where frame rates fluctuate dramatically. While some users report smooth performance on high-end hardware and in multiplayer, others experience stuttering and graphical glitches, suggesting that the game may have been rushed to release without adequate testing. Additionally, there are concerns about graphical fidelity, with certain assets appearing underdeveloped, although some players remain hopeful for future updates to improve overall performance.

    • “However, the performance in multiplayer is fantastic so far despite me thinking that it would have lowered FPS.”
    • “Performance is good, works out of the box on Linux, which is lovely.”
    • “I wanted this game to be like skate but for BMX, and currently it's exactly that and a bit more. I'm having so much fun running it off my 1080 6GB, 2070 Ti 6GB, and 4090 Ti 12GB. I'm seeing no performance issues with either PC and I have no issues paying the price.”
    • “It seems like the game was rushed to release without proper testing and optimization.”
    • “Mash world is practically unplayable for me because of the stuttering and framerate issues.”
    • “Even on great hardware (3070/i7), it's unplayable with 20-40fps (fluctuates, makes it even worse) and no settings relieve this performance issue.”
  • grinding
    49 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The grinding mechanics in the game receive mixed feedback, with some players finding them satisfying and responsive, while others criticize them as finicky and inconsistent, often leading to frustration during challenges. Many users note that the physics can feel janky, with issues like unwanted grinding angles and difficulty locking onto rails, which detracts from the overall experience. Despite these challenges, some players appreciate the potential for improvement and enjoy the grinding system once they adapt to the controls.

    • “The grinding feels too finicky to get it right compared to Pipe, and tooth grinds are janky, leaning to left/right feeling inverted or so.”
    • “Most challenges are hard as hell to complete, seeming near impossible when you're doing them. For example, the 'drift' challenges on any surface that isn't completely flat are near impossible because your character starts literally grinding at a 90-degree angle along the concrete floor.”
    • “This game still needs work to get the quirks like instant stopping when trying to do manuals, or getting stuck grinding the ground randomly. Overall, this game has so much potential, but the fundamental bike mechanics are so much more tedious, difficult, and inconsistent than they should be.”
  • humor
    19 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The humor in the game is largely derived from its quirky physics and amusing glitches, which players find entertaining despite their frustrations. Many reviewers highlight the comedic value of character tumbles and funny brand names, while also enjoying the lighthearted interactions during online collisions. Overall, the game's unfinished and wonky nature contributes to a humorous experience, though some players feel the novelty may wear off over time.

    • “This was quite the funny experience watching the character tumble forever.”
    • “The collisions with people online are kinda sensitive but at the same time I find it funny; me and my friend have run into each other a bunch of times and we always laugh it off.”
    • “Ragdoll is hilarious.”
  • replayability
    14 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's replayability is heavily reliant on the modding community, with players expressing hope for future updates to enhance the experience. While some find the deep gameplay mechanics promising for long-term engagement, others struggle with bugs and difficulty in executing moves, leading to frustration. Overall, the potential for replayability exists, but it is currently hampered by technical issues and gameplay challenges.

    • “Modded maps are already popping off, so it seems like there will be a big community around this game and a lot of replayability down the line.”
    • “Whether you're a seasoned BMX enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, BMX Streets offers something for everyone, with its deep gameplay mechanics and endless replay value.”
    • “Session is a far better skate game, with far more possibilities and replayability.”
    • “As much as I am enjoying riding around at the moment, with the state of the game I can't recommend buying it. I'm not going to refund the game in hopes that something good actually comes out of this game, whether it be at the hands of the devs or the modding community. This game has great bones, but sadly I was expecting a little more from it having been teased for such a long time. If the game changes for the better and ends up in a more playable state, I'll update my review. I guess we'll see what the future holds.”
    • “(edit: 55 hours into the game, I can say I'm starting to regret deleting Pipe because it was honestly more fun than this game. The transition stuff in this game is so much better, and while some grinds are possible that weren't before, doing simple stuff like spins into grinds or just certain grinds is so much harder because you have to land very specifically to make it work. Half the time I can't get the right grind input, which I think is partially my fault, but it's definitely too difficult for me to enjoy the game when I can never flow around a park or map without bailing. The game starts to get so buggy with a ton of lag where it looks like I have less than half the frame rate and it goes super slow. I have a pretty good PC and never had an issue with any other game, and this only applies to certain parts of the map. I'm still happier to have the game than not have it, but it is very disappointing, and until it is made better, it is definitely no replacement for their previous game which is more playable overall.)”
  • monetization
    11 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The monetization of BMX Streets has drawn criticism for feeling like a cash grab, with players expressing concerns over a lack of meaningful updates and content. While there have been some bug fixes and transparency in updates, many believe the game lacks depth and engagement, leading to skepticism about the developers' commitment to long-term support. Overall, the game's execution is seen as promising, but the monetization strategy raises doubts about its future development.

    • “Feels like a cash grab.”
    • “Clearly a quick cash grab.”
    • “And they have no intentions of ever updating it and they never will because they are on their next cash grab vacation pay called BMX Streets 2.”
  • atmosphere
    8 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's atmosphere is highly praised for its meticulous detail, creating an authentic and immersive experience that resonates with players, earning a perfect score of 10/10. While some users note occasional jankiness, the overall ambiance is described as relaxing and enjoyable, making it a key selling point for those interested in this type of environment.

    • “From the gritty streets to the sprawling urban landscapes, every detail is meticulously crafted, creating an atmosphere that feels both authentic and immersive.”
    • “The atmosphere is a 10/10!”
    • “The game is a bit janky at times, but it's a fun game and exactly what I was hoping for with the relaxing atmosphere I loved from Pipe.”
    • “Only buy this game if you have the money and are really interested in the atmosphere of the game.”
  • music
    8 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The music in the game is generally considered lackluster, with many players opting to turn it off entirely. Additionally, the default music volume is set to zero, which detracts from the overall experience. While improvements to the soundtrack and options menu are suggested, they are not seen as critical flaws in the game's current state.

    • “The soundtrack is just something you'll turn off.”
    • “For some reason, the music volume is set to 0 by default.”
  • emotional
    3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The emotional aspect of the game is marked by frustration and disappointment from players, who express their dissatisfaction with persistent bugs and gameplay issues that detract from their overall experience. Many feel that the developers should prioritize fixing these problems over adding new features, as the current state of the game has led to a sense of anger and disillusionment among dedicated players.

  • character development
    3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Players express a strong desire for enhanced character development features, specifically a custom character designer and an object dropper, to be integrated into the game. This suggests that the current character development options may feel limited, prompting a call for more personalization and creativity.
