    268 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The gameplay of this title has been praised for its originality and engaging mechanics, particularly the spear-throwing and blood-absorption systems, which add a unique twist to the souls-like genre. While many players enjoyed the intuitive controls and satisfying combat, some noted issues with balance, level design, and the overall brevity of the experience, leaving them wanting more depth and variety. Overall, the game is seen as a promising proof of concept with solid mechanics and a captivating atmosphere, despite some technical roughness.

    • “The throwing mechanic feels great and the death and healing mechanics are inspired.”
    • “The gameplay is smooth and the environment is cool, it has soulslike combat with a twist of spears in a similar world to Dark Souls, as well as a similar but newer look.”
    • “The mechanics of the spear throwing and blood healing are really cool and definitely worth the 30 minutes or so it took me to play through the game.”
    • “Runs like shit and the gameplay is pretty boring.”
    • “Gameplay is simply throw spear, and smash spear; I found it very un-fun.”
    • “I would say the project would have some future if they redesigned the gameplay or at least varied it somehow, because it's far too simplistic for a game any longer than 30 minutes.”
  • graphics
    145 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The graphics of the game have received a mixed but generally positive reception, with many players praising the stunning visuals, unique art style, and atmospheric design reminiscent of dark fantasy titles like Dark Souls. However, some users noted performance issues, such as frame rate drops and unoptimized settings, which detracted from the overall experience. Overall, while the graphics are considered impressive for an indie project, there are calls for further refinement and optimization.

    • “The graphics were phenomenal, even on low settings.”
    • “The visuals are stunning and the gameplay is very fast-paced and intuitive.”
    • “The graphics are absolutely stellar, but the performance is abysmal, ranking between 45 to 60 fps on a GTX 2080s.”
    • “A weird soulslike, I wish they didn't mess with the graphics; the gameplay is boring.”
    • “Even at lower graphic settings, this game can chug quite a bit in larger areas, although it's completely understandable as this is an indie game and programming can be quite difficult (if not, time-consuming).”
    • “Of course there are drawbacks; graphics are not 100% optimized and camera controls are quite hard, but for an indie student project, I would say 100% great job and keep up the good work.”
  • story
    93 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's story has received mixed feedback, with many players noting its brevity and simplicity, often describing it as engaging yet underdeveloped. While some appreciate the intriguing concepts and potential for expansion, others criticize the storytelling as dull or lacking depth, particularly in comparison to established titles like Dark Souls. Overall, players express a desire for a more fleshed-out narrative in future updates or full releases.

    • “The game has good graphics, nice art and animation, pretty fun combat and an okay story.”
    • “The preface of you, the playable character, being not the knight but the demon-possessed spear that's actually possessed the body of the dead knight is a really neat story concept.”
    • “A breathtaking experience, honestly, the convoluted story at the beginning begins to piece itself together as you play.”
    • “The story is hard to follow and the combat is very weird, different from other games, not sure if that was intentional.”
    • “The non 10/10 rating comes from the shortness of the game and the missing assets to the story.”
    • “Unfortunately, it is riddled with bugs, has a pretty boring story and combat, and the camera controls made me nauseous.”
  • atmosphere
    73 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The atmosphere of the game is widely praised for its haunting and immersive qualities, reminiscent of the Dark Souls series, with many reviewers highlighting its stunning visuals, engaging sound design, and unique world-building. Despite being a short experience, the game effectively captivates players with its eerie aesthetic and compelling lore, making it a standout project, especially for a student game. Overall, the atmosphere is described as both enchanting and oppressive, successfully drawing players into its dark and mysterious environment.

    • “Despite the fact that the game is short, it managed to captivate with its atmosphere and unique vibe in such a short period of time.”
    • “Very impressive with its grand level designs, haunting atmosphere, and mysterious lore where you play as a demonic spear reawakened to take back what was supposedly theirs in an empire seemingly long abandoned.”
    • “While short, the atmosphere that this game manages to build is nothing less than remarkable.”
    • “The atmosphere screams dark souls but isn't wholly difficult; in fact, the healing mechanic makes it a pretty trivial challenge.”
    • “It's obviously a bit rough, but I really liked the core mechanic and atmosphere.”
  • optimization
    27 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The optimization of the game has received mixed feedback, with some players experiencing stable performance and good graphics, while others reported significant issues, particularly on higher settings. Many noted that while the game runs adequately, it could benefit from further optimization, especially regarding animations and overall performance on various systems. Overall, players appreciate the game's concept and visuals but agree that improvements in optimization are necessary for a smoother experience.

    • “Many people complained about optimization and movement, but I didn’t have any issues.”
    • “Overall it was a smooth experience and my GPU did the majority of the work; pretty well optimized indeed.”
    • “Having said that, I didn't notice the typical jitters that usually appear when playing below 90fps, so the optimization in this game even received love.”
    • “Poorly optimized.”
    • “Finally, there are a few performance problems on an i5-10400F, RTX 3060 on the high preset.”
    • “Optimization is dogwater but it's a student project I guess, so it's perfectly fine.”
  • music
    22 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The music in the game has received mixed reviews, with many praising its atmospheric quality and ability to enhance the overall experience, while others feel it is too sparse or quiet, particularly during combat. Some players noted that the lack of dynamic combat music detracts from the intensity of fights, especially boss encounters. Overall, while the soundtrack is generally well-regarded, there are calls for more variety and volume to better complement the gameplay.

    • “The music is phenomenal, and is comparable to soundtracks of other great AAA games.”
    • “Great gameplay and beautiful music.”
    • “All of this is helped massively by the excellent sound design that never fails to enthrall with spooky ambience, powerful combat music, and extremely punchy sound effects.”
    • “The biggest thing is music; the game has ambient music, but it's quieter than I would want it to be, and the fights don't feel all that meaty just because there's not any combat music.”
    • “Sound design is serviceable with the use of some stock sounds, but nothing too bad to complain about; music is actually surprisingly good.”
    • “I'd say the biggest things that need work are the animations, performance, and sound (particularly music and voice).”
  • stability
    5 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Overall, the game's stability is praised, with users reporting minimal bugs and glitches, particularly when using a keyboard. The visuals and atmosphere are well-received, contributing to a smooth gameplay experience. However, there are some mentions of bugs, indicating that while the game is largely stable, there may be occasional issues.

    • “Visually pretty decent, nice soundtrack, and it plays really well; at least on keyboard, it was bug-free.”
    • “Simple mechanics, the atmosphere meshes well with the world, and I couldn't find any glitches. If you ever decide to make this a full game, you'll get my money.”
    • “I don't usually go for these types of games, but I have to say this was actually extremely refreshing. For someone not in a large corporation, creating something as bug-free, environmentally and atmospherically engrossing, and looking as clean and detailed as it does - I'm sad it was as short as it is and would have loved to have this as a bigger, more storylined title.”
    • “When it's this buggy?”
  • character development
    4 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Overall, character development in the game is viewed as satisfactory but lacking in depth, with many users expressing a desire for more improvement and refinement. While some praise the character design and its contribution to the game's atmosphere and story, there is a consensus that it could benefit from further enhancement.

    • “This is an amazing game, great character design, atmosphere, and great story; however, there is a bit that could be worked on in a full version of the game.”
    • “Character design can still be improved, as the current character design is quite okay, but I feel like it deserves more honestly.”
  • humor
    3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The humor in the game is highlighted by its quirky weapon choices and witty dialogue that often pokes fun at the player. The unique mechanic of possessing other bodies after dying adds a humorous twist to the gameplay, contributing to its overall comedic tone. • “The weapon choice is interesting, since it's not just a normal sword, and the lines are so funny sometimes, mocking you a bit.”
    • “If you die, you can possess another body, which is really unique and funny.”
    • “Funny murder game, goo brrr.”
  • grinding
