“There are several points in this game where you think it will end, but the story keeps expanding and giving you more and more.”
“With a good storyline, and dialogues that follow a progressive well-expressed notion of friendship and love, this game delivers a fun JRPG experience.”
“Exploration and questing is extremely basic, and the story is too.”
“The plot is simple and offers no surprises, yet it is somehow still just enough to keep your mind busy while you go through all the motions.”
“During the first 6 hours, the story failed to develop into anything interesting.”

The gameplay features standard turn-based battles with a mix of normal attacks, special skills, and magic, offering a solid and customizable battle system that appeals to both new and veteran players. While some find the gameplay loop linear and repetitive, others appreciate its depth and the ability to grind for levels, although this can lead to an imbalance in difficulty. Overall, the game is praised for its engaging mechanics and nostalgic feel, making it a worthwhile experience for fans of classic RPGs.
“I was ready to give up on it after a few minutes of gameplay, but I'm glad I didn't, because the game just kept getting better and better.”
“After beating the game on expert with 100+ hours of gameplay, I can confidently say that this is a hidden gem among RPG Maker-esque JRPGs and it does a lot of things right, especially the battle system.”
“Fortunately, the gameplay is there to back it up and offers a lot of customization and tweaking for the most attentive players.”
“The gameplay loop is way too linear and predictable; it's always the same patterns, like when encountering strong enemies (healing pentagram and an option to fight/wait).”
“Very repetitive and boring gameplay.”
“What it considers a 'step' I don't know, but the experience increases so stupidly fast that you could easily grind all your characters to max level in a very short time, completely ruining the gameplay.”

The graphics in the game are primarily 2D, featuring bright and colorful visuals that are aesthetically pleasing, though some players feel they lack variety, particularly in enemy designs and town uniqueness. While many appreciate the art style and high production value, others criticize the reliance on RPG Maker's limitations, resulting in a somewhat generic look that doesn't push the boundaries of graphics or gameplay. Overall, the graphics are considered decent to good, with some standout artwork, but they may not satisfy those seeking more innovative visual experiences.
“As visuals go, it’s a 2D simple, but aesthetically well-built world.”
“High production value and amazing artwork.”
“- Nice artwork, unique character design, bright colorful graphics.”
“Towns are somehow generic and offer little to no enthusiastic unique visuals that characterize them.”
“It's long, grindy, and while some attempts were made to do more than just RPG Maker cookie cutter rubber stamps, the attempt falls flat, and whatever value might be in this game is completely obliterated by the terrible quality engine and graphics that RPG Maker games all share.”
“Graphics & sound are quite ok, though the game is locked to 30fps and motion looks bad as a result.”

The reviews indicate that grinding is a significant aspect of the game, often described as tedious and time-consuming, particularly in relation to resource gathering and leveling up. While some players appreciate the balance it provides in terms of difficulty, many find it excessive and detracting from the overall experience, with complaints about repetitive encounters and uninspired gameplay. Automated battle modes are noted as a helpful feature to alleviate some grind, but the overall sentiment leans towards grinding being a negative element that drags down the game's enjoyment.
“Just some mediocre plot written in less than an hour but stretched out with unnecessary grinding for each story mission.”
“While the idea of gems giving various bonuses when placed in the cube is interesting, grinding them and making stronger ones from weaker ones and rotating and moving them so they can fit together like in Tetris is a time-consuming and tedious process.”
“It's long, grindy, and while some attempts were made to do more than just RPG Maker cookie-cutter rubber stamps, the attempt falls flat, and whatever value might be in this game is completely obliterated by the terrible quality engine and graphics that RPG Maker games all share.”

The music in the game is generally considered good, featuring a more complex composition than its predecessor, but suffers from a limited soundtrack that leads to repetitiveness over time. While some players appreciate the classic and pleasant nature of the music, others find it uninspiring and lacking in variety, which may be attributed to its origins as a mobile game. Overall, the sound effects are seen as subpar, and the absence of voice acting further detracts from the audio experience.
“The menu music is better than the earlier 2015 title Alphadia Genesis, featuring a complex composition with more instruments and deeper bass frequencies.”
“The soundtrack is good, classic but pleasant, although after a couple dozen hours, it gets repetitive.”
“The graphics are decent (anime style) and the music is fun to listen to.”
“However, the soundtrack and music of this game is very limited.”
“The music is uninspiring and repetitive, but at least the sound effects serve their part decently enough.”
“The music is really bad, and the sound effects are very tinny, basically crap in my opinion, and the sound sliders blast the music and sound effects painfully high if you raise the slider too high.”

The humor in the game is a mixed bag, with some players finding it simplistic and juvenile, while others appreciate the entertaining dialogues and funny character interactions, particularly those involving a talking cat. Although the comedic elements can be hit-or-miss, many players enjoy the lightheartedness and occasional laugh-out-loud moments, suggesting that the humor, while not consistently strong, adds a charming touch to the overall experience.
“Dialogues are entertaining with a few lines of humor and comic situations that are really funny.”
“This game is much recommended just for the funny comments the cat has with the heroes, especially the hilarious bonus dungeon dialogue.”
“The writing is amateur and non-serious, and I find myself smiling and even laughing out loud when I read some of the dialogue between the characters, so win for that.”

The monetization strategy of the game includes in-app purchases that enhance the experience, particularly in its mobile version. While the initial price of $9.99 for the PC version is considered reasonable, players appreciated the removal of microtransactions, which improved the overall value of the game.
“Like many other games from exe create inc, mobile options do exist, with in-app purchases that considerably improve the experience.”
“I played the game back when it was released for the iPhone, and I must say I really enjoyed the game so much. It may not have the best storyline or characters, but for a $9.99 game, it is indeed worth it. Of course, I'm an RPG fan since my very first game, and I must play every single RPG that comes out, no matter the platform. When the game released for the PC, I decided to play it again, and I was happy when I discovered that microtransactions were removed or replaced.”
“The monetization model feels overly aggressive, pushing players to spend money to enjoy the game fully.”
“In-app purchases are not just optional; they are almost necessary to progress without grinding endlessly.”
“The game is fun, but the constant prompts to buy items really detract from the overall experience.”

Asdivine Hearts Review
Content to iterate rather than innovate, Asdivine Hearts wears its inspirations on its sleeve both for better and for worse, delivering a decently enjoyable but ultimately uninspired JRPG experience. Its gameplay template is tried and true, but lacklustre presentation, control issues, and a pervading sense of paint-by-numbers design mean it’s unlikely to leave a lasting impression. Those looking for a straightforward, old-school RPG on Switch will certainly find that here, but for most players we’d recommend embarking on other adventures — like Lost Sphear, Earthlock, or Romancing Saga 2 — before diving into Asdivine.

There are so many JRPGs to choose from that it would be easy to overlook Asdivine Hearts, but it is definitely worth a try. Although simple in terms of graphics and battle style, the game has strengths where needed with its story and humorous characters. There is plenty to do for those who take the time to complete all the quests, and the addition of features such as the rubix system and the trust bar allow Asdivine Hearts to be a little different. Plus, there's a God trapped inside a cat, and how often does that happen?
