Turbo Golf Racing

Turbo Golf Racing is fun, and if you’re familiar with Rocket League, you’ll feel right at home. But after a while, it gets repetitive; the game only holds my attention for a few games, and I don’t think playing with my friends will change that.

  • The game features a variety of customization options for vehicles and balls, allowing players to personalize their experience.
  • The graphics are vibrant and appealing, and the gameplay is fast-paced, making it easy to pick up and play with friends.
  • Matchmaking can be frustrating due to a low player base, often resulting in games filled with bots or mismatched skill levels.
  • The controls can feel clunky and less responsive compared to similar games like Rocket League, which may deter some players.
  • There is a lack of meaningful single-player content, with most gameplay focused on multiplayer, which can lead to repetitive experiences.
  • gameplay
    82 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The gameplay of Turbo Golf Racing is characterized by its fast-paced, chaotic mechanics that blend kart racing with golf, offering a fun and engaging experience. However, players have noted significant downtime due to lengthy matchmaking and loading times, which detracts from the overall enjoyment. While the game features solid controls and a variety of customization options, it lacks depth in competitive play and player interaction, leading to mixed feelings about its long-term appeal.

    • “The gameplay is fast-paced and feels like a delightful fusion of kart racing and golf, with enough chaos to keep you engaged.”
    • “Turbo golf racing offers a lot of fun and challenging gameplay.”
    • “The gameplay is incredibly fun and addictive, and when you hit the perfect shot, it feels euphoric.”
    • “The time you are waiting for: matchmaking, loading screens, stage introduction, start cooldown, spectating, winning animation, and collecting loot is absolutely ridiculous compared to the gameplay time.”
    • “And two is the turn-taking mechanic - having to wait an average of 10-15 seconds between each attempt while you're forced to watch your (probably AI) opponent is tedious and quickly adds up to a lot of downtime in every match.”
    • “In turbo golf racing, you can't collide with other players' cars or balls, like Trackmania, so the only player interaction is with the one 'homing missile' weapon, which you don't pick up that frequently. There's no interesting gameplay around, and it just slows someone down by a few seconds.”
  • graphics
    24 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The graphics of Turbo Golf Racing are widely praised for their vibrant, cartoonish aesthetic and well-polished visuals, contributing to an engaging and immersive experience. Players appreciate the variety of beautifully designed maps and the game's overall production values, which enhance the fun and competitive atmosphere. While some critiques mention issues with controls and a few negative opinions on graphics, the majority highlight the game's impressive art style and smooth gameplay.

    • “A large variety of maps and beautiful graphics.”
    • “This game is a true masterpiece, with every aspect, from the gameplay to the atmosphere and graphics, expertly crafted.”
    • “The graphics are wonderful, the gameplay is smooth, and even if you lose you still have a good time!”
    • “Huge disappointment, bad controls and ugly graphics.”
    • “Its obvious that the art style, environmental design, vehicles, cosmetics, and general 'hit the ball with vehicles that have advanced aerial controls' gameplay is trying so hard to capture that same audience.”
    • “While the gameplay and aesthetic is similar to Rocket League, you can't go in expecting the ball physics and car physics to be the same.”
  • music
    19 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The music in the game receives mixed reviews, with some players praising the soundtrack as a "banger" and noting its energetic quality, while others find it generic and uninspiring, leading them to mute it in favor of other music. Although the graphics and gameplay are well-received, many feel that the sound design needs improvement, with some experiencing audio stutters that detract from the overall experience. Overall, while the music has its highlights, it is often seen as a weak point that requires further development.

    • “Graphic and music are on point.”
    • “Soundtrack is a banger.”
    • “Perfect graphic, good music, and really good gameplay.”
    • “It does still need more work, with its sound design and music being its current weakest point.”
    • “The music is sleep-inducingly generic, and the races devolve into lots of people driving around trying to hit their ball, not a ball, but their own ball, that nobody else can touch.”
    • “My only minor complaint is the music is meh.”
  • grinding
    13 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Players generally find the grinding aspect of the game to be tedious and time-consuming, particularly due to long wait times between turns and repetitive gameplay. While some appreciate the potential for decent achievements and a less grind-heavy progression system compared to other titles, many express frustration with the matchmaking and the necessity to engage in online play to unlock cosmetics, which can feel like a chore. Overall, the grinding experience is seen as a significant drawback, detracting from the enjoyment of the game.

    • “After about thirty minutes, I remember why I didn’t go too deep with this title. While this is on the third season and still in early access, even with DLC already, this is really just a grindy experience before long. The levels are interesting the first time, but hardly something I wanted to play for hours, especially with how often the same ones come around.”
    • “I think the devs thought this would be some big hit to take on bigger giants in the market, and instead it just dwindles in its very low player base. This makes the online part of the game, which earns all the fancy cosmetics, a real chore - long and ridiculously unfair matchmaking, brutally grindy season track, and a lot of cores and every single cosmetic tied to online progression only.”
    • “It gets really tedious when you're grinding for 3 stars.”
  • stability
    12 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The stability of the game has received mixed reviews, with some users reporting significant bugs and freezing issues, particularly on high-end PCs, while others note smooth performance on devices like the Steam Deck. Although there are occasional glitches and freezing during gameplay, many players have experienced solid performance with high frame rates on capable hardware. Overall, while the game shows potential, its stability remains a concern for a portion of the player base.

    • “The game looks great, it runs great, and it feels great.”
    • “Runs great on the Steam Deck as well.”
    • “Also runs great, full 144fps @ 1440p with just a 5600x/16GB/GTX 1080.”
    • “Extremely buggy and cannot run reliably on an Intel i7 processor and an SSD with 40GB RAM.”
    • “Although it is almost perfect, sometimes when I alt+tab out, the game freezes and I have to restart my PC.”
    • “My game screen freezes up sometimes during the sweeping camera move at the start of matches.”
  • optimization
    9 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's optimization is a mixed bag; while some users appreciate the balanced performance boosts from upgrades and the overall good price-performance ratio, others report serious performance issues that are unacceptable for a title priced at nearly $20. Despite some players experiencing perfect performance and stable servers, the presence of bugs and early access concerns highlight the need for further optimization.

    • “Similar to Rocket League, your performance can be enhanced by pickups you earn mid-race and also rewards for achieving certain goals, the latter of which are permanent and swappable at your bidding.”
    • “Some upgrades (cores) do offer limited performance boosts, but these are nicely balanced with their own negative effects; like increasing your boost speed at the cost of slowing down how fast the meter refills.”
    • “Performance is perfect & servers are working great <3”
    • “Has some serious performance issues, even for 'early access' that is pretty unacceptable.”
    • “The game might be a decent concept, but if you're going to charge almost $20, you better check the performance baseline first.”
    • “Bugs or issues aside, making sure it has acceptable performance should be a given.”
  • humor
    7 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game is praised for its humor, particularly in multiplayer settings, where players experience amusing glitches and entertaining moments, such as cars spinning uncontrollably. Reviewers find it a refreshing and funny alternative to more serious competitive games like Rocket League, highlighting its ability to provide laughter and fun while playing with friends. Overall, the humor adds a lighthearted charm that enhances the gaming experience.

    • “Very funny multiplayer game.”
    • “Narrator: 'Meanwhile, Red Max attempts to install wings on his car in-game, resulting in a hilarious glitch where his car starts spinning uncontrollably.'”
    • “Freaking hilarious game, fun to play with the boys, and a good change from the Rocket League competitive scene. What more can you ask for?”
  • monetization
    5 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game currently features no microtransactions or in-game monetization, allowing players to earn customization options through gameplay rather than spending real money. Players express hope that this model will continue, especially in light of concerns about potential future changes.

    • “As of yet, there's no in-game monetization like microtransactions for skins or anything like that, fingers crossed it stays like that.”
    • “Zero microtransactions so far, cross-platform, Rocket League vibes.”
    • “It's rockets, cars, and golf—what more could you ask for? No microtransactions, no pay-to-win; just play, earn money, and buy customization and modifiers for your car or ball.”
    • “As of yet, there's no in-game monetization like microtransactions for skins or anything like that, fingers crossed it stays like that (looking at you, Epic/Rocket League, please don't ruin this).”
    • “It's rockets, cars, and golf—what more could you ask for? No microtransactions, no pay-to-win; just play, earn money, and buy customization and modifiers for your car or ball. Get it before Epic snaps it up and it goes free-to-play with every cosmetic costing real money.”
    • “Zero microtransactions (so far), cross-platform, Rocket League vibes.”
  • replayability
    4 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Overall, the game's replayability is considered limited due to uninspired courses and the absence of a level editor. However, the diverse selection of cores and numerous levels offer some potential for varied playstyles, making it more enjoyable with friends, especially if purchased on sale.

    • “The diverse selection of passive and active cores allows for many playstyles and a lot of replayability, as does the fact that there are many levels.”
    • “Don't expect a ton of replayability, but if you and a few friends can get this game on sale, go for it.”
    • “The courses are also uninspired and there's no level editor, meaning the replayability is pretty low.”
    • “> replayability?”
  • story
    3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The story aspect of the game is minimal, primarily consisting of basic time trials and short missions that lack depth. Players express frustration with the online component, which is essential for unlocking cosmetics, as it features unfair matchmaking and a grindy progression system that detracts from the overall experience. This has led to a low player base, making solo play feel less rewarding and enjoyable.

    • “The in-game missions keep you coming back.”
    • “The single-player offerings are only basic time trials, and while there are missions, none of them will take too long.”
    • “I think the devs thought this would be some big hit to take on bigger giants in the market, and instead it just dwindles in its very low player base, making the online part of the game a real chore - long and ridiculously unfair matchmaking, and a brutally grindy season track.”
    • “If you want to have fun by yourself trying to do better on some tracks solo, then be willing to invest a bunch of time into playing with others just to get bombarded by missiles every 5 seconds.”
