In "Survival Nation: Lost Horizon," players navigate a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies, focusing on survival rather than the cause of the outbreak. Each survivor has unique skills and needs, spread across combat, survival, and endurance trees, making resource management and party optimization crucial. The game emphasizes exploration, scavenging for supplies, and maintaining a camp in a harsh, unforgiving environment.

The game's story and content are criticized for being extremely lacking, with players noting a significant absence of quests, missions, and meaningful gameplay elements, reducing the experience to a repetitive shoot-em-up. While there are some positive aspects like a good interface and voice acting, the overall narrative and depth are deemed insufficient, leading to disappointment among players who expected a more engaging survival experience. Many reviewers suggest that without substantial content updates, the game feels more like a cash grab than a fully realized title.
“If you are looking for a survival experience, this isn't it just yet, but it does have a lot of positives: great interface, nice weapon sounds, good voice acting, and quests to actually make it a game, not just a sandbox. It runs on Steam Deck.”
“A top-down zombie shooter with a character skill tree system, quest modes, and infinite potential.”
“Really bad. I thought Humantiz had no content, but this company keeps bringing out games with literally 0 content. It seems to be a recurring theme for this company making early access games just to abandon them to get the initial hype money from Steam, scamming players. I tried to play the PvP server, but it literally had 0 quests, no missions, no extractions—just a shoot 'em up with other players who have better weapons. If they want to release a good game, they need to think about PvP as well as PvE, not just shoot 'em up. It seems this is a fun-with-friends type game but would get stale very quickly. The PvE servers just have some bigger monsters with bigger health pools; other than that, it's extremely lackluster and is worth about $5 in 2024. Maybe if they fleshed out some content for the game, it might have gone better. Otherwise, if you want PvP, this isn't the game for you—just a slugfest and possibly fun with friends on PvE. I would not recommend it until the devs actually spend some time to flesh out better content in their games. I was really looking forward to playing a new zombie game, but there's no content to be seen other than a walking simulator and slugfest. Common devs, try to defend your no-content type game.”
“This game is really disappointing. I was expecting a lot more content, but it feels like a cash grab. The lack of quests and missions makes it feel empty. It's just a mindless shoot 'em up with no real objectives. The developers need to put more effort into creating a meaningful experience instead of just relying on the zombie theme. I was really looking forward to this game, but it turned out to be a huge letdown.”
“The story is practically non-existent. There are no quests or missions to engage with, making the gameplay feel repetitive and dull. It seems like the developers are more interested in making quick money than providing a solid gaming experience. Without a compelling narrative or engaging content, this game falls flat and fails to deliver on its potential.”
