About

In "Survival Nation: Lost Horizon," players navigate a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies, focusing on survival rather than the cause of the outbreak. Each survivor has unique skills and needs, spread across combat, survival, and endurance trees, making resource management and party optimization crucial. • It shows great potential with a solid core gameplay loop and satisfying progression mechanics.
  • The developers are responsive to player feedback and are actively working on updates and improvements.
  • The game lacks content and feels repetitive, with limited exploration and a small map.
  • Combat mechanics are poorly implemented, with sluggish weapon responsiveness and no hit stun for melee attacks.
  • Technical issues, such as menu navigation problems and bugs, detract from the overall experience.
  • story
    12 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's story and content have been criticized for being lackluster, with many players feeling that it lacks depth and meaningful quests. While there are some positive elements like a character skill tree and decent voice acting, the overall experience is described as a repetitive "shoot 'em up" without substantial narrative or gameplay variety. Players express disappointment, particularly in the context of early access, suggesting that the developers need to invest more effort into fleshing out the game's content and story.

    • “If you are looking for a survival experience, this isn't it just yet, but it does have a lot of positives: great interface, nice weapon sounds, good voice acting, and quests to actually make it a game, not just a sandbox.”
    • “A top-down zombie shooter with a character skill tree system, quest modes, and infinite potential.”
    • “After playing a really long time in VR for this game, playing this game on the computer without VR is really strange. The atmosphere is nothing compared to what it was like in VR. If you can get past the tutorial and into the actual story, then awesome.”
    • “Really, really bad. I thought Humantiz had no content, but this company keeps bringing out games with literally 0 content. It seems to be a recurring theme for this company to make early access games just to abandon them and get the initial hype money from Steam, scamming people. I tried to play the PvP server, but it literally had 0 quests, no missions, no extractions—just a shoot 'em up with other players who have better weapons. If they want to release a good game, they need to think about PvP as well as PvE, not just shoot 'em up. It seems this is a fun-with-friends type game, but it would get stale very quickly. The PvE servers just have some bigger monsters with bigger health pools; other than that, it's extremely lackluster and is worth about $5 in 2024. Maybe if they fleshed out some content for the game, it might have gone better. Otherwise, if you want PvP, this isn't the game for you—just a slugfest and possibly fun with friends on PvE. I would not recommend it until the devs actually spend some time to flesh out better content in their games. I was really looking forward to playing a new zombie game, but there's no content to be seen other than a walking simulator and slugfest. Common, devs, try to defend your no-content type game.”

  • gameplay
    10 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Gameplay is described as fun and polished, though it starts off slow and feels somewhat tedious due to fast-depleting food and thirst mechanics. The core loop of killing enemies to level up and upgrade lacks uniqueness, and some players find the aiming mechanics buggy and accessibility issues for older players. Overall, while the mechanics are simple and familiar, they may not offer enough depth to keep players engaged long-term.

    • “The gameplay is fun and fairly polished, albeit a bit chill and somewhat slow to start.”
    • “The more zombies you kill, the faster you level up; simple mechanics, nothing new or unique.”
    • “The food and thirst mechanics also decrease too fast and are kind of tedious, and the aiming is a little buggy.”
    • “The food and thirst mechanics decrease too fast and are kind of tedious, and the aiming is a little buggy. It would be much more accessible for my older friend if they mapped aiming and movement to the same stick, the left stick.”

  • graphics
    4 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The graphics of the game are praised for their quality and appeal, contributing positively to the overall gameplay experience. However, some users note that the graphics have a mobile-like aesthetic, which can appear unusual when played on a PC.

    • “Great little game, great graphics and gameplay.”
    • “The graphics are also very mobile-like, which makes this game look very weird when playing on PC.”
    • “The graphics are very mobile-like, which makes this game look quite strange when playing on PC.”
  • stability
    4 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Overall, users report that the game runs well on the Steam Deck, but they experience issues with the food and thirst mechanics depleting too quickly, which can be tedious. Additionally, aiming controls are described as somewhat buggy, suggesting a need for improved accessibility options.

    • “Runs great on deck”
    • “The food and thirst mechanics decrease too fast and are kind of tedious, and the aiming is a little buggy.”
    • “The aiming is a little buggy, which makes the game less enjoyable.”
    • “The mechanics feel unbalanced, leading to frustrating gameplay experiences.”
  • atmosphere
    2 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Players note a significant difference in atmosphere between the VR and non-VR versions of the game, with the VR experience providing a more immersive and dynamic environment. The sluggishness of weapon responsiveness in the non-VR version detracts from the overall tension and excitement, making it harder to engage with the gameplay effectively. While the story has potential, many find it challenging to progress due to the less engaging atmosphere and slower mechanics.

    • “After playing a really long time in VR for this game, playing this game on the computer without VR is really strange. The atmosphere is nothing compared to what it was like in VR. The quickness of each weapon feels a little sluggish in this version compared to the VR version. If you can get past the tutorial and into the actual story, then awesome. For me, I couldn't get past the tutorial due to how clunky the zombies felt. In VR, the zombies were fast when hit but not unkillable. In this version, the zombies are the same, but the reaction from gun to melee is slow.”
    • “The atmosphere in this game is significantly diminished when played on a computer without VR. The immersive experience of VR is lost, making the gameplay feel less engaging. The sluggishness of weapon handling further detracts from the overall experience, and the zombies feel clunky and unresponsive, which makes it hard to enjoy the game.”
  • grinding
    2 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Players find the grinding aspect of the game tedious, particularly due to the rapid depletion of food and thirst mechanics, which can detract from the overall experience. Additionally, some users note that aiming issues further complicate gameplay, suggesting that adjustments to controls could improve accessibility.
