In "Survival Nation: Lost Horizon," players navigate a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies, focusing on survival rather than the cause of the outbreak. Each survivor has unique skills and needs, spread across combat, survival, and endurance trees, making resource management and party optimization crucial. The game emphasizes exploration, scavenging for supplies, and maintaining a camp in a harsh, unforgiving environment.

The game's story is criticized for its lack of content, with players expressing disappointment over the absence of meaningful quests and missions, reducing the experience to a repetitive shoot-em-up. While the game features a character skill tree and some engaging elements, it ultimately feels like an unfinished product that fails to deliver a compelling narrative or immersive gameplay, leaving players wanting more depth and variety. Overall, the consensus is that the game is currently lacking in story and content, making it hard to recommend.
“Really really bad. This company keeps bringing out games with literally 0 content. It seems to be a recurring theme for this company making early access games just to abandon them to get the initial hype money from Steam. I tried to play the PvP server but literally had 0 quests, no missions, no extractions, just a shoot 'em up with other players. If they want to release a good game, then they need to think about PvP as well as PvE, not just shoot 'em up. It seems this is a fun with friends type game but would get stale very quickly. I was really looking forward to playing a new zombie game but there's no content to be seen other than a walking simulator and slugfest.”
“This game is extremely lackluster and is worth about $5 in 2024. If the developers actually spent some time to flesh out better content in their games, it might have gone better. Otherwise, if you want PvP, this isn't the game for you; it's just a slugfest. I would not recommend it until the devs actually invest time into improving the content.”
“I was really looking forward to playing some new zombie game, but there's no content to be seen other than a walking simulator and slugfest. Common devs, try to defend your no-content type game.”

The gameplay is described as fun and polished, though it starts off slowly and feels somewhat chill. However, some players find the core loop of killing enemies to gain strength and upgrades repetitive and lacking depth.
