  • story
    1,617 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The story in "South Park: Snow Day" has received mixed reviews, with many players noting its brevity and lack of depth compared to previous installments. Most agree that the narrative is short, typically taking around 4-6 hours to complete, and feels rushed, with only five main missions that often lack engaging content or character development. While some appreciate the humor and familiar South Park charm, others criticize the repetitive gameplay and minimal story elements, suggesting that the game prioritizes combat over a compelling narrative.

    • “The story is pretty good and combat could be better but still overall 7/10 for me.”
    • “The story is short but has good South Park comedy sprinkled in.”
    • “The story itself is simple but funny, as you'd expect from a South Park game.”
    • “The storyline is rushed and not well thought out, which I don't even think is necessarily due to the game being short either.”
    • “The story is extremely short, maybe like 4 hours long at best and the ending sucked, but that being said definitely wouldn't buy full price.”
    • “The story is short and I dislike where the story is going and how all of the characters suddenly hate you because of the previous games.”
  • gameplay
    808 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The gameplay of "South Park: Snow Day" has received mixed to negative reviews, with many players criticizing it for being repetitive, shallow, and lacking depth compared to previous titles in the series. While some appreciate the humor and cooperative elements, others find the combat mechanics clunky and the overall experience unsatisfying, often describing it as a mindless button-masher with limited content and strategy. Overall, the game seems to fall short of expectations, particularly for fans hoping for a more engaging and expansive gameplay experience akin to "The Stick of Truth" and "The Fractured But Whole."

    • “Every level ends with a different boss, each having their own fighting mechanics.”
    • “I loved the gameplay and the storyline!!!”
    • “The gameplay is pretty solid, nothing that will compete with melee and such from games like The Witcher, but it's still solid and provides a good challenge with a fair bit of choice in how you want to play.”
    • “The gameplay is awful with the only redeeming quality being the card leveling system.”
    • “The gameplay is just left clicking until everything dies, it is clunky as hell, same enemy types over and over, the bosses are uninspired and annoying - playing this game feels like a chore.”
    • “The gameplay is stale after 20 minutes.”
  • humor
    675 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The humor in "South Park: Snow Day" has received mixed reviews, with many players noting a significant drop in quality compared to previous titles like "The Stick of Truth" and "The Fractured But Whole." While some found moments of humor and clever writing that align with the show's style, others criticized the game for relying heavily on juvenile jokes, such as fart and poop humor, and lacking the sharp wit and depth that fans expect. Overall, the humor is described as hit-or-miss, with many feeling it doesn't capture the essence of the South Park franchise as effectively as earlier games.

    • “It was absolutely hilarious and clever.”
    • “The humor is all there and it's playing through a nice long episode just like some of the previous South Park games that Ubisoft made.”
    • “It's a fun little game, kinda addicting, 5 hours in and I'll be playing many more, love the dialog in the game, very funny, it's like watching an episode of South Park, but you can attack elves haha.”
    • “The story is awful and the jokes are not funny, which is surprising because it's South Park.”
    • “For South Park, the jokes are very few and when they are present, they are usually unfunny; not worth your money.”
    • “Unfunny; the game has nothing funny to say or do, and it feels like they made South Park PG-13.”
  • graphics
    389 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The graphics of the game have received mixed reviews, with some players appreciating the modern 3D aesthetic and its ability to translate the South Park style into a new format, while others criticize it as feeling amateurish or lacking the charm of the previous 2D titles. Many noted that while the visuals can be appealing, they often feel disconnected from the show's essence, leading to a lack of immersion. Overall, the graphics are seen as a highlight for some, but a disappointment for others, particularly those who preferred the original art style.

    • “I enjoyed the graphics and 3D aspect, regardless that it’s not in line with the South Park look.”
    • “The graphics are lovely and you can immerse yourself quite well in it.”
    • “Best graphics on any South Park game yet.”
    • “Personally, I think the art style feels like a cheap Unity asset flip—it looks amateurish and lacks polish.”
    • “It’s hard to take the game seriously with visuals this horrible; no idea what the devs were thinking when designing it.”
    • “The graphics are ugly, the gameplay is shallow, the story is minimal/lacking, and the level design is lazy.”
  • replayability
    181 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The replayability of "South Park: Snow Day" is a contentious topic among players, with many noting that while the game offers some replay value through modifiers and challenges, it ultimately suffers from a lack of content and repetitive gameplay. The short campaign, consisting of only five levels, leaves players feeling that there isn't enough to justify multiple playthroughs, despite some enjoyment found in multiplayer and experimenting with different loadouts. Overall, while there are elements that could enhance replayability, many reviewers feel the game falls short of its potential in this area.

    • “Play it with friends, play it on the highest difficulty and set various challenges to maximize the fun and replayability.”
    • “This is a game that has replayability; there are different combo loadouts to experiment with.”
    • “Very good game, even better than Stick of Truth; its levels change a bit every time, making it have amazing replayability.”
    • “The replayability is a key aspect and even something the developers brought up, yet it’s so obnoxiously grueling and repetitive that it makes that 'feature' more or less nonexistent.”
    • “For a game meant for replayability, there isn't much to go back around for after beating the campaign.”
    • “There's zero replayability or reason to replay it at all; it's difficult to get anything done, and it's just... cheesy.”
  • music
    82 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The music in the game receives mixed reviews, with some praising its catchy and fitting soundtrack while others find it forgettable or annoying at times. Many players appreciate the humor and thematic elements of the music, though issues like audio ducking during combat and loud volume levels detract from the experience for some. Overall, while the soundtrack is generally considered decent, it doesn't quite reach the memorable heights of previous titles in the series.

    • “The soundtrack slaps super hard too.”
    • “The soundtrack is literally so good!”
    • “These boss fights deliver mechanical depth, challenge, humor, and spectacle, and each combines with Snow Day’s above-average soundtrack to make for a memorable end to each mission.”
    • “The entire time all you hear is one-liner dialogue being clipped off by combat, generic combat music, and honestly some grossly unbalanced weapon sounds.”
    • “The last level music is hella annoying and I ended up muting it completely.”
    • “If you have sensitive ears like myself, I wouldn't recommend playing until something is changed with the sound effects, music, and dialogue.”
  • grinding
    78 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The grinding aspect of the game has been widely criticized for being tedious and repetitive, with many players feeling that it detracts from the overall enjoyment. Combat is often described as monotonous, with waves of similar enemies and limited weapon choices leading to a frustrating experience, especially in solo play. While some players find enjoyment in grinding with friends, the lack of meaningful rewards and the overwhelming focus on cosmetic achievements make the grind feel largely unfulfilling.

    • “It's pretty fun for hack-and-slash game enjoyers, not grindy at all, and I enjoyed the multiplayer aspect they introduced.”
    • “Combat is insanely tedious and repetitive with waves upon waves of enemies that, while having some variation, don't really feel different, as the combat is far too limited for the differences to really matter.”
    • “There's really no fun in grinding for dark matter in this game.”
    • “The game realistically has about 6 hours of content but level grinding to max all stats makes it longer.”
  • monetization
    66 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The monetization aspect of the game has been heavily criticized, with many reviewers labeling it a "cash grab" due to its perceived lack of content and effort. Although there are no microtransactions, the presence of a season pass and multiple DLCs at launch has led players to feel that the game was rushed and designed primarily for profit rather than quality. Overall, the sentiment is that the game fails to meet expectations, especially for fans of the South Park franchise.

    • “There are no microtransactions.”
    • “- there doesn't seem to be FOMO or monetization from what I played so far.”
    • “- I think they tried to have microtransactions in it.”
    • “This feels like a shameless cash grab and a pockmark on the South Park brand.”
    • “This game seems like a rushed cash grab which makes no sense seeing as Matt and Trey got an almost billion dollar deal from Viacom earlier this year.”
    • “I can't truly express what a pathetic cash grab this game is.”
  • stability
    65 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's stability has received mixed reviews, with many players reporting frequent glitches, bugs, and crashes that detract from the overall experience. While some users noted that the game runs well on certain platforms and is enjoyable despite its issues, the consensus is that it requires significant patches to address its numerous stability problems. Overall, players are divided, with some experiencing a relatively smooth gameplay experience while others find it to be a buggy mess.

    • “The game runs great without a single problem.”
    • “This game runs great on my Steam Deck, in dock at 1080p. I run it on low settings, but it can handle up to ultra settings at around 20-30 fps.”
    • “Also, the game is pretty much bug-free. Maybe I haven't played enough, but I still haven't encountered a single bug.”
    • “It's hard to fathom how a game with so many glitches has DLC.”
    • “The main problem is glitches; this game needs a serious patch.”
    • “Very buggy mid graphics and just a lackluster story. If you really wanted to beat the game, it might take 1.5 hours for the story, but the glitches and crashes forced it to take longer and just got boring with the dull story and buggy AI on both teams. It just felt slow, repetitive, and very trashy.”
  • optimization
    18 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game is praised for its excellent optimization, allowing for smooth performance even on mid-to-low-end hardware, with users reporting stable frame rates and minimal bugs. While some audio issues were noted, overall performance remains strong, with many players achieving high frame rates at maximum settings. However, concerns about future updates due to poor sales performance linger.

    • “Encountered very minimal bugs and performance-wise plays really well.”
    • “The game is very well optimized in my opinion, although I am running an RTX 3080 Ti and a Ryzen 9 5950X, but a lot of newer games just feel clunky and unoptimized in terms of frame rate and pop-in.”
    • “Due to the poor sales performance, I really doubt this gets a whole lot of updates, but who knows.”
    • “I haven't had any performance issues so far, but I will say that the audio is weird sometimes.”
    • “But if you crank up the quality to ultra (and the game is optimized enough that you can do it even on a mid-to-low-end card like the RX 6600), it's got a lot of lighting effects that make the game look a lot more vibrant than it should.”
  • character development
    10 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Reviews indicate that while the game features interesting character development systems and quality gameplay, it ultimately falls short in delivering a satisfying narrative and depth compared to its predecessors. Many players express disappointment over the lack of substantial character growth, humor, and engaging story elements, feeling that the game leans too heavily on repetitive mechanics rather than enriching the character experience. Overall, there is a strong desire for more robust character development and storytelling in future installments.

    • “It has quality gameplay, fun map design, interesting and fun character development systems, good voice acting and humor you expect from the series.”
    • “Worst one by far had great potential and was ruined by it being bland and stale. The old ones had side story quests and collectibles, but this game does offer better combat. We need character development as well; we need a class and everything.”
    • “Why remove all the humor, story, character development, and fun?”
    • “I find this very repetitive, with little character development and no real story... just a fun button masher.”
    • “Worst one by far had great potential and was ruined by being bland and stale. The old ones had side story quests and collectibles, but this game offers better combat. The story and overall experience were dissatisfying. We need more character development and classes in the next game.”
  • atmosphere
    8 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's atmosphere is described as enjoyable yet limited, with areas that feel small and repetitive, leading to a lack of immersive stimulation. While some players appreciate the festive vibe and fun elements, others express disappointment that it doesn't match the rich atmosphere of similar RPGs like "Stick of Truth" or "Fractured But Whole." Overall, the atmosphere is seen as a mixed bag, with potential that feels underutilized.

    • “Fun roguelike with a nice atmosphere that's too short for its price and lacks decent friendly AI.”
    • “Obviously, this game is not meant to be an RPG like Stick of Truth or Fractured But Whole, but I expected the same atmosphere and vibe that I loved about those games.”
    • “Food and fun in a festive atmosphere!”
  • emotional
    8 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The emotional responses to the game are mixed, with some players expressing heartbreak over unmet expectations and disappointment in gameplay elements. While it is described as a wholesome family game suitable for gatherings, many reviewers criticize its lackluster story and gameplay mechanics, leading to feelings of frustration and regret.

    • “I was so wrong, and it was very heartbreaking (and costly) to realize.”
    • “Boring story line.”
    • “Boring story line.”
