All bark and no fright -- Slender: The Arrival Review
Slender: The Arrival wants to be seen as a serious entry into the horror genre, but it fails to put the effort into the gameplay mechanics and artificial intelligence that would merit the honor. It seems almost afraid to spend too much time on the atmosphere and tension-building that make for a truly frightening experience, as if players will forget their fear unless an enemy is consistently in sight. Unfortunately, this overexposure breeds immunity rather than hypersensitivity, and makes the game's brevity a welcome respite from the resultant boredom and disappointment.

Slender: The Arrival is a must-play for any horror fan who hasn't played it on PC. You may get frustrated with it at times, but overcoming any cheap moments makes beating each chapter and the overall game all the more rewarding. If you play it alone, you can easily get enough scares out of it for price, but we highly recommend that you play The Arrival with the company of a couple of friends, turn up the volume, and turn off the lights.

For its asking pricing and the unique experience it offers, there's nothing quite like Slender: The Arrival. So long you're not expecting something along the puzzle-solving lines of Amnesia: The Dark Descent, I can't think of many recent horror games that cause that same kind of dread you get from being alone and defenseless.
