The gameplay is characterized by easy-to-grasp mechanics reminiscent of classic skateboarding games, though it is presented in a 2D format that some players find limiting. While the variety of art styles adds visual interest, the gameplay can feel repetitive, as different paths often offer only superficial differences rather than distinct experiences. Overall, the gameplay is accessible but may lack depth for some players.

“The numerous paths may only be different in appearance, but they certainly look very different, and give the feel of not being at all similar in gameplay.”
“While you are not on a skateboard, you’re not doing tricks, and it’s in 2D; it really does feel like the mechanics of doing manuals in THPS.”

The story aspect is characterized by themes of resilience and the unpredictability of life, as seen in a narrative about overcoming adversity to pursue dreams, exemplified by a boy who, despite losing his legs, strives to become a tap dancer. In contrast, another mention highlights a less impactful story from a half-animated film, suggesting that engaging characters can sometimes compensate for a weak plot.
“The moral of the story is that you never know what life has in store for you. If I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today.”
“Roll'd tells the heartfelt story of a boy who, despite the loss of both of his legs, travels upon a path of infinite length pursuing his dreams of becoming a tap dancer, all while living in constant fear of the inevitable death that could come at any moment during his journey.”
