The music in the game receives mixed reviews, with many praising its fitting orchestration and cultural representation, particularly the use of Persian instruments. However, several players find the soundtrack forgettable, lacking memorable hooks, and not impactful enough to enhance the game's beautiful environments. Overall, while the music contributes positively to the atmosphere, it falls short of being truly memorable or exceptional.
“The musical score adds a cinematic quality to the experience, enriching epic moments like boss fights and climbing Mount Qaf.”
“Accompanied by impressive locations and music, this is a great world to get lost in and explore.”
“As an Iranian, I particularly appreciated the music, which was a strong point for me.”
“The music has almost no memorable hooks; it's forgettable and at times, like in the library level, it can even be called annoying.”
“The music is one of the game’s biggest letdowns.”
“Sadly, the underwhelming soundtrack here fails to do justice to the beautiful environments, leaving the biomes feeling a bit hollow.”

Overall, the game's stability is mixed; while it runs smoothly on the Steam Deck with high frame rates and appealing visuals, many players report encountering various bugs, including animation glitches, achievement issues, and occasional crashes. Some users experienced significant disruptions, such as freezing during fast travel and problems with offline play, which detracted from the overall experience. Despite these issues, many still find the gameplay enjoyable, particularly in the context of its metroidvania design.
“Runs great on the Steam Deck OLED, 90 FPS on ultra, looks amazing.”
“Great game that runs great on Steam Deck maxed out and has achievements.”
“Game always looks great, runs great.”
“The only downside is that you need to start online to start the game (you can switch offline after that) and that achievements can get buggy, especially if you play offline. I had a bug with the air dancer, spikes, and opportunity kills achievements and had to start a new save to get them. It took me 10 minutes to do so, but it is a bug nonetheless.”
“What really surprised me was how buggy it was for such a big game.”
“Well, I had two freezes during fast travel…”

The game is highly praised for its optimization, delivering solid performance with smooth frame rates averaging 90 fps on the Steam Deck, even at maximum settings. Players report minimal load times and no significant bugs or performance issues, contributing to an overall enjoyable experience. The combination of a vibrant art style and responsive combat further enhances the game's appeal.
“The game's performance is excellent, with smooth frame rates and minimal load times.”
“Well optimized game on Steam Deck, 90 FPS in max settings.”
“Gorgeous art style, flawlessly optimized, quick, responsive combat and intricate and delightful level design.”
“This means that a) you need to download additional software and register with them to play, b) it runs in the background, hurting performance, and, most importantly c) now there are two storefronts controlling your access to the product, with one being substantially less trustworthy than the other.”
“- Denuvo (but don't be clowns and say it is affecting performance. This game runs on a potato).”
“Maybe the improved performance on my PC gave me an advantage, but I think it mostly comes down to familiarity with the combat and the fights themselves.”

The atmosphere in the game is generally praised for its great graphics, sound, and music, creating a fantastic ambience that enhances the overall experience. However, some reviews note that while certain titles excel in atmosphere, others, like *The Lost Crown*, fall short, offering a more action-oriented experience that may detract from immersive exploration. Choosing the Persian language option is highlighted as a way to further enrich the atmosphere through its engaging dialogue.
“Great graphics, sound, and music; the atmosphere is all there.”
“Fantastic ambience, atmosphere, and music. As a whole, that's the first Prince of Persia game since Warrior Within that feels 100% on point.”
“The Persian dialogue sounds great, tonally and acting-wise, complementing the atmosphere well.”
“Unfortunately, this isn’t the only aspect of 'Lost Crown' I found lacking: while I wasn’t surprised by the unimpressive and partially predictable story with mostly flat characters – as this isn’t an uncommon occurrence in the genre – I was disappointed by the lacking atmosphere, however.”
“Unlike many of its peers that prioritize atmosphere and exploration, 'Lost Crown' offers a more action-packed experience, blending the agility and combat of the classic 'Prince of Persia' series with the exploratory structure of Metroidvania.”

Reviews highlight that grinding in the game can be tedious and frustrating, particularly due to unclear mechanics, poor controls, and repetitive combat. While some players appreciate the collectibles and platforming challenges, many feel that the grinding aspects, such as mandatory backtracking and bullet sponge enemies, detract significantly from the overall experience. Overall, the grinding is seen as a major flaw that can lead to player disengagement.
“The crappy controls and vague hitboxes make this so tedious I simply stopped playing and uninstalled the game on the second one.”
“If you've never played a proper metroidvania, I'm sure you'd be able to convince yourself that this is somehow good, that enemies are supposed to be bullet sponges, that your combos are supposed to be broken for no reason, that combat has to be the same monotonous 3-hit combo every time, that jumps are supposed to be misaligned, that backtracking has to be mandatory and tedious, that platforming has to be done blind, that convoluted level design is somehow 'exploration', that your swords have to make the sound of a wet paper towel, that bosses have to withhold one-hit kill attacks every 20% of their health to give an illusion of difficulty and make you retry, that a bright yellow light is enough to make attacks with poorly telegraphed timing, that you can cheese every single fight by sliding through enemies... but if you've ever, for a minute, played a metroidvania that's been done well, then this is shit.”
“I expected this to finally be a complete game for release on Steam, but no, of course it isn't when Ubisoft now go and announce an expansion (and will likely look at farming us all again!!!!).”

The character development in the latest Prince of Persia entry is highlighted by the likability of the protagonist, Sargon, and is complemented by strong character design and voice acting. While some players found the character aesthetics initially jarring compared to previous titles, many appreciated the depth and growth of the characters as the game progressed, ultimately enhancing the overall experience.
“If you can approach the game without prejudice, you’ll see that Sargon is a very likable protagonist with very good character development.”
“With great character design and voice acting, this makes for an easy recommendation.”
“The character designs are a mixture between Overwatch and Spider-Verse, adding a unique flair to the overall experience.”
“Honestly, the inclusion of Ubisoft Connect was a bit of a nuisance, and as a fan of previous Prince of Persia games, the noticeable shift in the overall tone and aesthetics (especially most of the character designs) was initially slightly jarring for me.”
“The character design somehow feels out of sync with everything else on the screen.”

Reviewers express hope for future installments to maintain this approach, highlighting it as a refreshing change in the current gaming landscape.

“This is one of the actually good Ubisoft games; after years of constant garbage re-releases, this one is a complete game with a story and no microtransactions or live service elements, which is a breath of fresh air.”
“I hope for a second part without aggressive microtransactions.”
“This one is an actual complete game with story and with no microtransactions or live service elements, which is a breath of fresh air.”
“Sidenote: I grew up playing Sands of Time and others, and this feels like a great addition to the universe and not deductive like a lot of cash grabs are.”

The humor in the game is often unintentional, stemming from the absurdity of certain plotlines and character developments that feel random or unresolved. “Entire plotlines and characters are dropped at random or never go anywhere; all of this honestly crosses into hilarious territory for how bad it is.”
“The King Darius/Vendrick was funny, but probably not intentional.”

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Review – A crowning achievement
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is an incredibly pleasant surprise. Brilliant gameplay and gorgeous visuals make it utterly addictive to play, and in my time with it, I never wanted to put it down. The only fault the experience really has is the story, and while it is perfectly serviceable, it’s never sufficiently engaging, even if the gameplay itself is enough to keep you going. If you are looking for a new Metroidvania to sink your teeth into, this is one I can highly recommend, and a strong return to form for the previously long-resting franchise.
85%Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Review
The Lost Crown is a good modern template for an old franchise, taking the essence of Prince of Persia into a familiar metroidvania format. With fun combat, good boss battles, and smooth platforming mechanics, only the convoluted levels and overlong platforming keep it from being timeless.

Prince of Persia The Lost Crown is an instant classic. Full of reverie for the series it takes it to new heights with a damned near-perfect mix of action platforming goodness. It’s the best type of Metroidvania. One that knows how to pace out the power-ups and I hope this is the start of a series of similar titles for the franchise.
