One Night Stand

One Night Stand is almost as short as the real thing, but not as pleasant… or unpleasant. Despite the intriguing concept behind this nice-looking visual novel, which is to find out what the heck happened last night, this plays its cards a bit too safe, and never dares offering something more emotive, or to include interesting plot twists. It is a simple create-your-own-adventure kind of deal that's… well, fun, just not as much as it could be with a little heavier emphasis in character development and/or plot. If a fan of the genre, and don't mind super-short indies, check it out. The rest can safely pass this by.

  • grinding
    7 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Users generally find the grinding aspect of visual novels and e-books to be tedious, particularly due to the repetitive nature of clicking through text and replaying for achievements. While some appreciate the fast forward and skip options to alleviate the monotony, many still feel that the process of hunting for endings and completing achievements can detract from overall enjoyment.

    • “Getting all achievements is more tedious than enjoyable.”
    • “Completing every achievement is a bit tedious.”
    • “There is a fast forward option to speed ahead to slightly tweak each playthrough, which I found tedious.”
  • optimization
    3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game features a compelling short story and impressive visuals, but suffers from poor design choices, such as misidentifying repeated lines as new and unskippable, alongside significant optimization issues that detract from the overall experience.

    • “Good short story, great visuals, but the design fails to detect the same lines coming from two sources as 'new' unskippable ones, and the optimization is even worse in such a basic game.”
    • “The game suffers from severe optimization issues, making it frustrating to play despite its potential.”
    • “While the graphics are impressive, the poor optimization leads to frequent lag and crashes, ruining the overall experience.”
  • character development
    2 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Character development in the game is noted to be simplistic, effectively portraying an "average woman in her early twenties," but reviewers feel it lacks depth and could benefit from a stronger focus on character growth and plot intricacies. While the create-your-own-adventure aspect is enjoyable, it leaves players wanting more in terms of character exploration.

    • “The character design of your new sleeping buddy is simplistic, but it effectively represents the 'average woman in her early twenties.'”
    • “It's a simple create-your-own-adventure kind of deal that's fun, but it could benefit from a heavier emphasis on character development and plot.”
    • “It is a simple create-your-own-adventure kind of deal that's… well, fun, just not as much as it could be with a little heavier emphasis on character development and/or plot.”
