The story aspect of "Lego Worlds" has received mixed reviews, with many players noting a significant lack of a cohesive narrative. While some appreciate the sandbox nature and the freedom to create, others criticize the game for its repetitive fetch quests and minimal storytelling, which detracts from the overall experience. Overall, the game is seen as more focused on exploration and building rather than delivering a compelling story, leaving many players wishing for a more structured narrative akin to other Lego titles.
“The game is amazing, it's like this is your own story!”
“The quests have descriptions/what to do, and rewards.”
“The different biomes are much more fleshed out with a greater variety of characters and animals and models, and the quests aren't boring at all.”
“The whole game does not really have a story; you run around to do quests and receive bricks for that.”
“There is almost no story, and the tasks are simple: only find, bring, and build or destroy.”
“The game is just very boring; the quests feel very tedious and repetitive (even when you are completing your first one) and are basically just fetch quests.”

However, criticisms focus on the repetitive nature of quests, clunky controls, and a lack of depth in gameplay, leading to a sense of boredom after initial excitement. While the building mechanics offer potential for intricate designs, they are often described as cumbersome, and the absence of survival elements or a compelling progression system detracts from the overall experience.
“One of the standout features of Lego Worlds is its open-ended gameplay that encourages creativity and exploration.”
“Its open-ended gameplay, vast exploration, and intuitive building tools provide endless possibilities for players to unleash their creativity and embark on imaginative adventures.”
“The gameplay is exciting and fun, with lots to do, lots to build, discover, and more.”
“You can't turn off the narrator, you can't skip any of the redundant tutorials, and the gameplay and quests are just lazy and pointless; it just sucks.”
“There is little to no 'game' after the first 10 minutes of play; you're sent into the main gameplay loop, which is to create new worlds to complete random fetch quests.”
“The gameplay lacks a certain depth and cohesion that I've come to expect from other sandbox titles.”

“The graphics are amazing and can lag up at some times when rendering the map, but other than that, it's perfect.”
“The graphics are fantastic; they have the same plasticky feel as they do in real life, only less expensive.”
“But it has an issue where changing the graphical settings breaks the game sometimes; it is unoptimized and the game sometimes doesn't load a world after you make it, causing you to alt + F4, which corrupts the files and causes crashes all over.”
“The graphics, mouse controls, camera controls, and other control options are abysmal; worse than abysmal, they make the game practically unplayable.”
“The graphics engine is now broken; whenever I load in a block, it goes really weird and black... never did that before.”

Despite occasional smooth performance, the consensus is that substantial optimization work is still needed to enhance stability and performance.
“Fast forward exactly 2 years until now - the game gets nicely optimized, works much more smoothly, there's a proper intro, an adventure mode got added; generally it looks and works way better than before and I'm hyped about the adventure mode.”
“With the new 1.06 GB update, I believe it's time to change my review, I'm so happy the devs have finally optimized the game for lower spec PCs, the game now runs at a very smooth pace, I can now exit and enter different planets without any freezing, thank you so much devs for listening to the community.”
“Wonderfully optimized for an alpha release, plenty to do and see.”
“With the amount of crashes, soft-lock bugs from being interrupted during animations, sloppy combat, clunky controls, poor performance, and needless filler to draw out the game, I would say not to waste your money on this.”

Overall, while the soundtrack has improved and fits various in-game moments, it lacks variety and can become stale over time.
“The upbeat soundtrack sets the tone for adventure and discovery, while the sound effects, such as the clinking of LEGO bricks and the playful character voices, add charm and immersion to the gameplay experience.”
“The music has improved; from the early access, all I heard was one piece of music looping over and over, which was pretty annoying, but when I went to a desert biome, I heard pretty cutesy music, and when I went to a spooky land, I heard music that felt pretty spooky.”
“The soundtrack is suitably adventurous, with the sound assets changing to suit the various biomes.”
“The theme music is annoying and the rest seems to be okay.”
“The music is blaring and the 'narrator' voice volume is also quite high.”

“Where you do this again, and again, and again, and again... for me that's not enough replay value.”
“I'm a master builder, and the building side of the game is so crappy that I think the game has lost any replay value because you just can't get creative due to the extreme difficulty of block placement versus camera control.”

A little rough around the edges, but LEGO Worlds has huge potential with its extensive creativity and humour. If you can tolerate a wayward camera and occasionally fiddly controls, then there's a wealth of enjoyment to be mined from building, destroying, and collecting.

LEGO Worlds is a delightful game, full of whimsy with tonnes of things to see and do. The draw of exploration is excellent as is the myriad of items to collect, but frame rate issues and quest bugs slow the gameplay down a bit.
