LEGO The Incredibles

I can’t help but think TT Games rushed this one, as it had too many bugs to be truly incredible, but if they can patch those out it’s yet another fantastic LEGO game that you’re going to love.

  • The game features a fun open world with a variety of Pixar characters, adding charm and nostalgia for fans.
  • The gameplay includes enjoyable combat mechanics and character abilities, making it engaging for players of all ages.
  • The humor and references to the Incredibles movies are well-executed, providing a light-hearted experience.
  • The game forces players to start with the sequel before the original movie, which confuses the storyline and frustrates fans.
  • There are numerous technical issues, including crashes and bugs that hinder gameplay, especially in co-op mode.
  • The character unlock system is tedious, relying on a loot box mechanic that feels unnecessary and frustrating.
  • story
    242 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The story in "Lego The Incredibles" covers the plots of both films, but players are required to experience the sequel first, which has led to confusion and dissatisfaction regarding narrative continuity. While the game incorporates Lego humor and offers a fun, engaging experience, many feel it fails to adapt key moments from the movies effectively, resulting in a weaker storyline compared to other Lego titles. Additionally, the open-world elements and side quests can feel repetitive, detracting from the overall narrative experience.

    • “The story follows Bob Parr as he tries to balance his life as a superhero with his family life, through the crisis of superheroes being illegal.”
    • “The game follows the story of the two films with some added LEGO humor. Some scenes have been altered, meaning that not all scenes from the movies line up the exact same way as shown in the game; this can be a little annoying for people who wanted the cut scenes to play out the same way they did in the movies, but unfortunately this just isn't the case.”
    • “The story is amazing, and the gameplay is fantastic!”
    • “The story is messed up and annoying to play through; the free roam world has a repetitive and annoying story that unlocks every collectible on the map, with random characters from Pixar games to make up the lacking character roster, including Merida, Dory, and Miguel. The driving mechanics are terrible, time-consuming, and the overall character unlock system is just dumb.”
    • “In its current state (and considering it's so far from launch and not getting updated), I am unable to even complete the story of the game.”
    • “The story is weaker than usual LEGO games; they didn't adapt the story from the movies very well and cut most of the important parts, like the scene of Mr. Incredible risking his life to turn the ship and Project Kronos’ reveal.”
  • gameplay
    73 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The gameplay of this LEGO title is a mix of classic mechanics and new features, offering a fun and engaging experience with a well-designed open world and satisfying collectathon elements. While the introduction of unique mechanics like "family builds" and multi-character structures enhances the gameplay, some players noted issues with repetitive tasks, buggy mechanics, and a lack of intuitive puzzle-solving guidance. Overall, despite some criticisms regarding the story and certain gameplay elements, many found it to be a solid and enjoyable family-friendly game with beautiful visuals and a nostalgic LEGO charm.

    • “A solid and enjoyable family-friendly collectathon with plenty of different characters to spice up the gameplay, and lots of satisfying secrets to uncover in the well-designed open world.”
    • “Visuals, UI, and gameplay have all been refined to deliver a beautifully crafted game—dare I say the pinnacle of LEGO games and one that could only exist as a result of several iterations of the same gameplay formula being distilled throughout the years in the relentless pursuit of perfection.”
    • “There were wonderful new mechanics for the Incredibles, and the visuals on a LEGO game have never been so good.”
    • “The story is messed up and annoying to play through; the free roam world has a repetitive and annoying story that unlocks every collectible on the map. The driving mechanics are terrible, time-consuming, and the character unlock system is just overall dumb, functioning like the packet opening in R6 Siege.”
    • “Gameplay is a bit buggy, like it was hurried to completion.”
    • “Instead we have a broken L circle mechanic that can take 30 minutes to get past.”
  • graphics

    • “Visuals, UI, and gameplay have all been refined to deliver a beautifully crafted game—dare I say the pinnacle of Lego games and one that could only exist as a result of several iterations of the same gameplay formula being distilled throughout the years in the relentless pursuit of perfection.”
    • “It's a personal preference that I hate the visual aesthetic chosen for those games.”
    • “It’s easy and the graphics are a downgrade.”
    • “Graphically wise, the game is ok.”
  • humor
    38 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The humor in the game is a mix of classic LEGO charm and over-the-top antics, with many players appreciating the clever jokes and character banter that enhance the gameplay experience. While some found the humor to be forced and less creative compared to previous LEGO titles, others enjoyed the funny moments and unique character interactions. Overall, the game successfully incorporates LEGO's signature humor, making it enjoyable for fans, despite some criticisms regarding the open world and scene adaptations from the films.

    • “From building epic structures to smashing them like a toddler on a sugar rush, it's a hilarious take on the superhero saga.”
    • “The humor and the jokes/puns are actually funny and not just stupid slapstick too, which I very much appreciate.”
    • “The classic TT/Lego game humor is done very well in this game; some of the banter between characters during the missions is quite funny here and there.”
  • grinding
    20 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Reviews of the game's grinding aspect are mixed; while some players appreciate the fun and rewarding nature of the levels and the opportunity to relive classic Disney-Pixar moments, others find the crime wave challenges and loading times tedious and repetitive. Many agree that the game does not require extensive grinding to unlock characters, but the overall experience can feel like a chore compared to earlier titles in the series.

    • “One of the most tedious games I’ve ever played.”
    • “Even opening the booster packs is a slow and tedious process.”
    • “Somewhat repetitive grinding in the open world crime wave challenges.”
  • stability
    16 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The stability of the game has been widely criticized, with users reporting numerous bugs and glitches that disrupt gameplay and lead to long loading times. Many players experience frequent freezes and crashes, suggesting that the game feels rushed and lacks polish. While some updates may address certain issues, the overall impression is that stability remains a significant concern.

    • “Lots of bugs and glitches.”
    • “On top of all this, loading screens are very long at times, and it glitches constantly throughout the levels.”
    • “Now every time I try to play it, it takes 5 minutes to launch, and when it does, it just freezes and I am forced to close it.”
  • music
    16 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The music in the game is highly praised for its dramatic and angelic compositions, contributing significantly to the immersive open world experience. Reviewers appreciate the nostalgic familiarity of the soundtrack, which features fresh recordings rather than mere clips from the movie, enhancing the overall enjoyment and engagement with the game.

    • “Very well made open world and an amazing soundtrack.”
    • “The graphics, sound, music, and fun characters and puzzles kept me playing for hours.”
    • “Instead of simply trying to harvest clips from the movie soundtrack, fresh versions were recorded.”
  • optimization
    8 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The optimization of the game has received mixed reviews; while some players report excellent performance with no stuttering or frame drops, others criticize it for being poorly optimized, causing high resource usage on their PCs. Overall, experiences vary significantly, with some users enjoying smooth gameplay and others facing performance issues typical of LEGO games.

    • “The upside of this is great performance.”
    • “Like most LEGO games, poorly optimized and makes my PC go brr.”
    • “The performance is trash.”
    • “The game runs very well, didn't experience any stutter, drops, or performance issues at all, never seen the game drop below 140fps on a 1070 in 1440p.”

  • monetization
    2 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The monetization aspect of the game has been criticized for its excessive integration of Disney product advertisements, which detracts from the overall experience and immersion, leading players to feel as though they are engaging with a marketing tool rather than a cohesive game.

    • “The game could have been great, but instead it's a shameless plug for other Disney products with references to those products that effectively serve as in-game advertisements, killing any immersion. You could be playing and eventually forget it's an Incredibles game.”
  • emotional
    2 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Reviews indicate that the emotional impact of the game is lacking, with players feeling it resembles a subpar imitation of traditional LEGO games rather than delivering a genuine emotional experience.
