  • The game offers a fun, fast-paced multiplayer arena shooter experience with a strong emphasis on dynamic combat and weapon variety.
  • It features stylish pixel art graphics, appealing character designs, and smooth animations that contribute to an engaging visual style.
  • Local multiplayer mode is highly praised for providing enjoyable party gameplay with friends, supporting couch co-op and competitive matches.
  • Online multiplayer suffers from connectivity issues, lack of active player base, and problematic matchmaking, limiting the game's accessibility.
  • The game is currently limited in content with only five characters, two arenas, and a limited number of levels, leading to repetitive gameplay.

  • graphics
    7 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game features well-executed retro pixel graphics with smooth animations that enhance its top-down arena shooter style. However, some arenas, particularly the forest, can be visually cluttered, making it difficult to distinguish solid walls from the background. While weapon visuals are praised, a few graphics options appear to have bugs.

    • “Weapon graphics are good and everything moves smoothly.”
    • “It's like a Bomberman/rogue-ish game with great pixel graphics.”
    • “In-game graphics have a retro pixel look to them and are well done, but I found the arenas to be too busy to work out what was going on at first, with especially the forest arena not always making it obvious which walls are solid and which are just part of the background.”
    • “There's a handful of graphics options, but they seem a bit bugged.”
    • “Guns n' boxes is a four-player top-down twin-stick arena shooter with pixel graphics.”
  • gameplay
    5 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The gameplay is fast-paced and reminiscent of Enter the Gungeon, featuring unique mechanics like a challenging respawn system instead of elimination rounds. Animations are well-done but often go unnoticed due to the intense action.

    • “This feels like an Enter the Gungeon-esque game with some interesting mechanics.”
    • “Animations are pretty good, too, but you'll have a hard time finding enough downtime to actually look at them, as the gameplay is pretty fast.”
    • “Respawn mechanic instead of elimination rounds, but this is really hard to implement with this gameplay.”

    • “Music is acceptable, but it gets a bit repetitive after a while.”
    • “Sound effects are good, but the default sound volume is too low compared to the music.”
