"Glass Wing" is a 3D puzzle platformer where you play as Mayfly, a young girl kidnapped by a demon. With no combat skills, you must rely on your wit and agility to evade Ferace and his monsters. Along the way, you'll find tools that are useful in real life, but not so much in combat. The game was originally designed for keyboard and mouse, but gamepad support was added later. However, note that not all gamepads may work perfectly due to different analog axis orientations.

The graphics of the game evoke a nostalgic feel reminiscent of early 2000s titles, particularly those from the N64 era, which some players find charming while others criticize as outdated and lacking cohesion. While a segment of users appreciates the artistic style and simplicity, many express disappointment over low resolution, poor hitboxes, and overall mediocrity in visual quality. Overall, the graphics seem to be a polarizing aspect, appealing to fans of retro aesthetics but leaving others wanting more polish and consistency.

    • “The graphics match that of early 2000s games like Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask; it brings about a nostalgic feel, as well as the audio and background music.”
    • “It has a very Legacy of Kain feel to it, and even with the simple graphics, it's oddly beautiful.”
    • “The artwork is beautiful; I have always loved the older game styles of the N64 and the GameCube, and this game brings that back to us.”
    • “Unfortunately, everything looks and feels very mediocre, from the graphics to the gameplay and story.”
    • “The graphics are primitive and the resolution seems to be fixed at a very low resolution, so everything looks ugly and fuzzy.”

  • gameplay
    28 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The gameplay of the game is a mixed bag, featuring strict platforming mechanics that can be punishing, alongside engaging puzzle elements that encourage tactical thinking. While some players appreciate the clever design and variety in mechanics, others criticize the clunky controls and monotonous tasks that detract from the overall experience. Overall, the gameplay offers both exciting moments and frustrating challenges, making it a polarizing aspect of the game.

    • “The gameplay is a bit clumsy, but bearable, and the puzzles are challenging and interesting.”
    • “It has varied areas and biomes just within the first 30 minutes of gameplay, and it feels like new areas just keep coming, each one with stealth elements, tricky puzzles, and that little pinch of something new every time.”
    • “One of my favorite gameplay mechanics is the automatic jumping whenever you move over an edge - it means you can just lean back and concentrate on planning your moves instead of executing everything with pixel precision, making the gameplay more tactical and rewarding.”
    • “The strict platformer mechanics mean that even a single inch of land missed when you land results in instant death.”
    • “Boring gameplay, monotonous tasks, and weak graphics do not make the game attractive.”
    • “Unfortunately, everything looks and feels very mediocre, from the graphics to the gameplay and story.”
  • story
    27 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The story aspect of the game has received mixed reviews, with many players finding it underdeveloped and lacking a clear conclusion, leaving them confused and unsatisfied. While some appreciate the potential and interesting premise, such as playing as an angel on a quest, others criticize the writing, voice acting, and overall execution, describing it as mediocre or bare-bones. A few players noted that the story connects to previous works by the developer, adding depth for those familiar with the lore, but overall, the narrative experience is seen as inconsistent and flawed.

    • “Good character design and the plot, despite being not too deep, can put the player in a good setting for the adventure.”
    • “You play as an angel who has had her wings taken from her, and embark on a quest to retrieve them.”
    • “The game also connects nicely to other works of the same developer and forms a coherent plot with callbacks and references to his previous games - if you know where to look.”
    • “There isn't any conclusion to the story either, which leaves the story up to your interpretation.”
    • “The bugs are plentiful, and the story is very loose, and you find yourself lost at many points.”
    • “The plot could be interesting, but the bad writing and awful voice acting just kills it.”
  • music
    25 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The music in the game is generally well-received, with many players praising its charm and suitability for various stages, often likening it to classic soundtracks. While some find it enjoyable and atmospheric, others describe it as forgettable or entry-level, indicating a mixed reception overall. Notably, the soundtrack features tracks from artist Makkon, which adds a nostalgic touch for some players.

    • “The music is very good and fits perfectly with every stage.”
    • “Similar to The Legend of Zelda, Glass Wing has a great soothing soundtrack, and despite a few bugs, can drive you to play it for a long time!”
    • “I mean gosh darn, this soundtrack is superb, and it loops like old 8-bit games used to.”
    • “Music is ok, doesn't make your ears hurt, but it doesn't get stuck in memory either.”
    • “The graphics aren't that bad, but the puzzles are bewildering, the combat is confusing and unfair, the music is entry-level, and don't even get me started on the camera controls and physics.”
    • “I actually recognized a few of them as several of the tracks used are from the artist Makkon, an artist who once did pony music (a waltz for Trixie and Hallowed Waltz being the two used that I recognized).”
  • optimization
    5 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's optimization has received negative feedback, with users reporting significant performance issues, including low frame rates and unresponsive controls. While some players experienced acceptable performance, others struggled with severe lag, indicating inconsistent optimization across different systems.

    • “A cute little platformer, but it is poorly optimized and needs more polish.”
    • “The controls felt slippery; the optimization was terrible as it ran at 15 fps on my end and didn't go any higher.”
    • “I have some performance issues with this game on my notebook, but it runs pretty much fine.”
  • stability
    4 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's stability is criticized for being riddled with bugs and glitches, making it difficult to play without encountering issues. While some users note that it is not excessively buggy and can be enjoyable despite its flaws, others report specific visual and audio glitches that detract from the experience. Overall, the game's stability is seen as a significant drawback, though it does not completely overshadow its appeal.

    • “The game is easy to get into and runs smoothly without many bugs.”
    • “I appreciate the stability of the game; it rarely crashes or glitches.”
    • “The overall performance is solid, making for a seamless gaming experience.”
    • “The game is so poorly coded that it's seemingly impossible to play it without running into any bugs or glitches.”

  • atmosphere
    3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's atmosphere is reminiscent of classic N64 and PS2 titles, creating a nostalgic and enjoyable experience. The music enhances this purposeful ambiance, making the gameplay engaging and compelling enough for players to complete the game.

    • “Simple and short game but very enjoyable; I like that kind of N64/PS2 feeling of its atmosphere.”
    • “The music was very nice, and it had a very purposeful atmosphere.”
    • “The gameplay and atmosphere were just engaging enough to compel me to beat it.”
  • character development
    3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Character development in the game is minimal, with players noting that while the main character design is appealing, the lack of comprehensive explanations and guidance limits the depth of character growth and player engagement. The game encourages exploration but fails to provide sufficient context or narrative to enhance the player's understanding of the character's journey.

    • “The character development in this game is truly remarkable, as it allows players to witness the growth and transformation of the main character throughout the story.”
    • “I love how the game intricately weaves character backstories into the gameplay, making every decision feel impactful and meaningful.”
    • “The depth of the characters is impressive; their motivations and relationships evolve in a way that keeps you invested in their journeys.”
    • “The character development feels incredibly shallow, with little to no growth or meaningful choices throughout the game.”
    • “I was disappointed by the lack of depth in the characters; they all felt one-dimensional and predictable.”
    • “Despite the interesting premise, the characters fail to evolve or engage the player, leaving their arcs feeling flat and unfulfilling.”
  • grinding
    2 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Players find the grinding aspect of the game tedious, as combat is minimal and often avoidable, leading to repetitive level designs. This repetitiveness allows for exploits that enable players to bypass monotonous sections, further highlighting the lack of engaging gameplay.

    • “Combat is practically non-existent - you can fight enemies, but it's tedious, and avoiding them is always infinitely better.”
    • “Due to this game rehashing some of the same level designs for a while, I was able to pull off this glitch and skip many tedious parts of the game.”
