  • The level design is engaging and encourages speedrunning, with many mini-challenges that add depth to the gameplay.

  • The fixed camera angle leads to frustrating depth perception issues, making platforming more difficult and less enjoyable.

    56 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The gameplay in the sequel to Frogun has received mixed feedback, with some praising the introduction of new mechanics like the double jump and fixed camera that enhance fluidity and level design, while others feel these changes trivialize the original grappling mechanic and lead to frustrating controls. The addition of co-op gameplay and improved boss mechanics has been well-received, but bugs and a lack of variety in level styles have detracted from the overall experience. Overall, while the game is seen as more refined and enjoyable, it still faces criticism for certain design choices and technical issues.

    • “But this sequel brings double jump and other mechanics which makes it feel even better!”
    • “The titular frogun's grappling mechanic allows for enough experimentation to keep things fresh, and the difficulty is just right to be a genuine challenge but totally doable, plus getting a perfect grade for each level will satisfy anyone who wants to really test themselves.”
    • “It is not a huge departure from the first game, but every single mechanical change serves to make the game more fluid, more intuitive, more fun, without diluting the challenge.”
    • “However, the double jump now almost entirely invalidates the grapple (the main mechanic of the game!) as bottomless pits you used to grapple over now are jumped over with ease.”
    • “I found it extremely disappointing that the main mechanic of the original game is now less important than a double jump.”
    • “Whiffing platforming due to controls and mechanics bugging out on you is way too common.”
  • music
    18 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The music in the sequel is generally well-received, with many praising its catchy and upbeat nature, which complements the game's colorful graphics and characters. However, some players noted that the soundtrack can become repetitive, especially during challenging levels, detracting from the overall experience. Overall, while the music is enjoyable and on par with the first game, its repetitiveness in certain contexts may impact player immersion.

    • “The fun colorful graphics, cute characters and upbeat music are perfect too :>”
    • “The music is also great, I really like the instrumentation.”
    • “Music is super catchy and absolutely will get stuck in your head and you won't be mad about it.”
    • “The soundtrack can get particularly repetitive unfortunately, especially if a world is giving you particular trouble (the 2nd world with the vine death pit is kind of painful).”
    • “In fact, while trying to finish them as fast as possible or without deaths, there were some stages I had to retry so many times that the loading screen started throwing me out of bounds, the music track wouldn't start or a blue screen would flicker in and out.”
    • “Music is more or less on par with the first game, which I enjoyed.”
  • graphics
    14 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The graphics of the game are praised for their cheerful, colorful aesthetic and cute low-poly design, reminiscent of classic platformers while maintaining a modern appeal. Reviewers appreciate the stylistic visuals that enhance the overall experience without demanding high-end hardware, making it accessible for a wide range of PCs. Overall, the graphics contribute significantly to the game's fun and engaging atmosphere.

    • “The world around it and graphics are very cheerful as well.”
    • “The fun colorful graphics, cute characters, and upbeat music are perfect too.”
    • “The visuals are basic, but super stylistic in a way that harks back to those classic platformers but without looking ugly—the style is gorgeous and just so happens to come with the benefit of letting this game run on basically any PC made within the last decade.”
    • “The graphics are very lackluster and fail to impress.”
    • “The low-poly graphics feel outdated and detract from the overall experience.”
    • “The visual design lacks detail and depth, making the game feel flat.”
  • stability
    12 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game is plagued by numerous bugs and glitches, including issues with enemy attacks and movement that can lead to unavoidable damage. While these problems do not render the game unplayable, they significantly detract from the overall experience and raise questions about the thoroughness of playtesting. Players have noted that the stability issues, while not game-breaking, are frequent enough to be a consistent source of frustration.

    • “On top of that, they were extremely buggy. Sometimes they would use attacks that clipped outside the arena, or attacks that seemed like they were meant to be standing in a certain spot, but they just never moved, so the attack was either useless or I had to take completely unavoidable damage.”
    • “Finally, while this is not a knock on the quality of the gameplay itself, it's worth noting that this game is extremely buggy, to the point where I wondered at multiple points whether or not the game was properly playtested, as some of the bugs are relatively common to encounter.”
    • “Some other notable glitches were being launched into orbit by a rotating slope, and many instances of being pulled towards light enemies/objects instead of pulling them towards me.”
  • grinding
    8 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Players have mixed feelings about grinding in the game; while some appreciate that the sequel has reduced the need for repetitive gameplay compared to its predecessor, others find themselves tediously searching for coins to complete achievements and unlock artworks. The grinding experience varies, with some players spending significant time on it, particularly for completionist goals. Overall, the game offers a less grind-heavy experience than before, but certain aspects still require patience.

    • “Now you have to tediously crawl through the level looking for coins on the edge of what the camera will show instead of just spinning the camera around to see everything quickly.”
    • “I nearly 100%'d it (outside of grinding coins for all the artworks).”
    • “Encore is maximum 10 hours long whereas I spent 19 hours in Frogun (admittedly, a lot of this was grinding the last achievement; I would estimate Frogun is 15 hours).”
  • character development
    2 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The reviews highlight that while the game features simple and charming character designs, the focus is more on gameplay mechanics and controls rather than deep character development. Players appreciate the satisfying control scheme, suggesting that character growth may not be a central element of the experience.

  • story
    2 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The story of the game is accessible to new players, as it includes a recap at the beginning, eliminating the need for prior knowledge of the previous title, Frogun.

    • “You don't need any prior knowledge of Frogun to play this one; the story even gets recapped as soon as you start.”
