While some players found the narrative engaging and well-written, others criticized it for being linear and lacking significant developments, with some elements feeling disconnected from the gameplay. “Rainswept packs full of amazing cinematic moments; a crime story with a fine twist, a solid plot, and a very plausible, mature, and relatable narrative.”
“The story carries the whole game, so I would suggest reading and not skipping :)”
“Forgotten Fields tells its story of adolescent nostalgia and creative crisis in a very meditative, quiet manner, and the landscapes bathed in warm lighting emphasize this melancholy beautifully.”
“Because the story and conversations are not captivating or entertaining, most of the time I feel very random with the game.”
“Next, I don't know why the creator chose a fantasy story where the main character has writer's block; it feels extremely off.”
“The amount of bugs, poor and awkward controls, graphic issues, and slow story progression really made this a bad experience.”

“The soundtrack is incredible, really, really complements the overall themes of the game.”
“An experience which exudes humanity and warmth, from the writing to the visual style and music.”
“Or the audio, for the most part; the songs are chill, although there are multiple areas with no music and minimal sound effects... or there is the beach scene where the waves are so loud you can't hear anything else (including yourself).”
“The same can be said for the soundtrack.”
“Music got my soul but the bug don't.”

The graphics of the game have received mixed reviews, with some praising the unique art style and beautiful environments that enhance the storytelling, while others criticize the simplicity and technical issues, such as graphical glitches and lack of detail. Overall, the visuals are described as pleasant but not groundbreaking, with a few standout moments that can be overshadowed by the game's technical shortcomings.
“The visuals are nice and the unity look is well suited, I'd say.”
“Beautiful artwork and lovely, colorful environments.”
“A very relatable story about nostalgia and the past, paired with a beautiful art style and soundtrack!”
“Although the graphics has been a big improvement, that's the only positive side.”
“The amount of bugs (easily and repeatedly getting out of the game's boundaries and being forced to reload an old save, cutscenes not playing out as intended, interaction options not popping up), poor and awkward controls (using a+s does not make you go down and to the left, it just makes you go down or left, depending on what you pressed first), graphic issues (the road popping in and out of the vehicle during cutscenes, lack of detail in items vs scenery and characters [which aren't even that detailed to begin with]), and the slow story progression (and dialogue which is unskippable) really made this a bad experience.”
“- the horrendous art style and graphics, mix of 3D with shaded art, the people model without eyes were right out from a horror story.. the waves crashing onto polygon rocks and 80s background graphics were cringe.”

The gameplay is characterized by janky controls and occasional visual bugs, leading to a somewhat awkward experience, particularly during exploration and navigation. While it features interesting narrative-driven mechanics, such as switching between worlds and engaging in minigames, the overall gameplay can feel shallow and frustrating at times. Despite these issues, the strong narrative and artistic elements may appeal to players willing to overlook the gameplay shortcomings.
“These story developments are both a narrative and gameplay device, acting as a very interesting way to develop Sid's tale.”
“The fairytale world also has a bit more liberty in terms of themes and gameplay, as demonstrated by a basic stealth section and even a 2D section.”
“Gameplay-wise, there are a few minigames and (unexpected) quick time events, but overall it is a very calm and even cozy experience that is centered around the dialogues and is concerned with setting the mood.”
“The main problem with the gameplay, though, are the at times janky controls.”
“Gameplay's a bit awkward, mostly the walking around bit, which is pretty much the entire game.”
“For the rest of the gameplay, sometimes knowing what to do is difficult if you missed even a single box of text.”

“This game is a new release and an indie game, so it is definitely not bug-free, but the bugs I encountered didn't detract from my enjoyment of the game.”
“It's currently (v1.6) too buggy, glitchy, and clunky to recommend.”
“The only issue I really had was the animations; they're very buggy and clipping through objects very often, which unfortunately takes you out of the experience a bit.”
“First of all, the game (I've played in 4K, if that matters to anyone) had quite a few visual bugs or glitches, like people walking through objects or standing in them, flickering textures when I swam back to the shore at the ocean, and when I drove the scooter and the yellow car in third person.”
