Floppy Knights is a charming experience that brings something unique to the table, even though it doesn’t reinvent the wheel for either of its genres. I do wish there was a little more meat to the experience, and despite the charming writing the story simply lacks a strong core. Despite that, however, it’s a journey that’s well worth taking, especially if you’re a fan of tactical games or deck builders.
Floppy Knights is a quirky turn-based strategy game where you command paper knights in battle. Assemble your deck of paper soldiers, each with unique abilities, and outsmart your opponents in tactical combat. The game features charming hand-drawn art and a delightful blend of humor and drama.

The gameplay is a blend of turn-based strategy and deck-building mechanics, offering a satisfying and engaging experience that evolves as players progress through the game. While some players appreciate the innovative mechanics and variety of strategies, others find the gameplay can become repetitive or unbalanced, particularly after unlocking all content. Overall, the game is praised for its accessibility, charming art style, and the depth of strategy it provides, though some players wish for more complexity and depth in the core mechanics.
“The gameplay is simple, yet it has big room for some cool decks and strategies.”
“I was worried that the combination of deck-building mechanics and tactical gameplay wouldn't mesh well and come off as gimmicky, but I really enjoyed the blend of these genres and the different strategies I had to employ, as well as the variety of objectives throughout the levels.”
“The turn-based gameplay is not particularly complicated, but offers a satisfactory amount of mechanical variety for players to interact with and customize.”
“But for me, it really falls flat in the most important area: the gameplay.”
“The only real downside is that once you unlock everything, there's no real gameplay left.”
“While I really love the art and the idea, the battles are so slow that it takes forever.”

The graphics of the game are widely praised for their charming and cute art style, reminiscent of titles like Dicey Dungeons, which enhances the overall experience. Reviewers highlight the vibrant character designs, clean visuals, and cohesive music that contribute to the game's energetic and engaging atmosphere. While the aesthetic is appealing and well-executed, some feel that the gameplay could have matched the high expectations set by the artwork.
“The artwork is incredible and the overall idea of the game is unique and exciting, but sadly the execution doesn't deliver on that promise.”
“The art style is charming, with characters that are expressive and colorful, but the cuteness doesn't detract from how satisfying it is to fly across the map and savage a goblin that killed one of your favorite troops.”
“The whole experience is wrapped in a very thorough art style that gives the game lots of visual polish, making it feel decently real.”
“The art style resembles a Saturday morning cartoon; and the story and characters are funny and memorable.”
“The misleadingly simple and charming aesthetics hide a complex and challenging game that has something for everyone.”
“Floppy Knights's aesthetic isn't mysterious and edgy...”

Overall, players find the grinding aspect of the game to be tedious and unrewarding, with many activities feeling repetitive and lacking in engagement. While some appreciate the absence of traditional grinding for cards or levels, the need to manage numerous statistics can still feel burdensome. The balance of resource acquisition is noted as neither overly generous nor excessively demanding.

Overall, the game's replayability is mixed; while it offers some replay value through challenge sections and deck-building options, the core story and scenarios remain the same after completion, limiting the experience for players who prioritize narrative variety. Players can expect around 10-12 hours of gameplay, but once the story is finished, the replayability may feel constrained.
“The challenge section and the new decks offer a lot of replayability, and I'm fully committed to building the perfect deck and giving the hooligans the murder squad they deserve.”
“$20 is a steal for a game of this quality, the amount of content, and the replayability.”
“This game doesn't offer much in the way of replayability, so once you finish the game, that's about it.”
“The downside is that the game does have somewhat limited replayability once you've beaten the story (devs estimate ~10-12 hours, if I recall correctly) and optional challenge levels.”
“(The scenarios will be the same on subsequent runthroughs, so the replayability consists of the new decks and tactics that you might bring to them.)”

Floppy Knights has the same nagging demand to play that Advance Wars has: to satisfy a sub-objective, to progress the campaign, to unlock a particular unit. Even as we write now, we have the urge to get floppy with Floppy Knights. If you’ve got a turn-based bone in your body, we’d encourage you to do the same.
70%Floppy Knights Review (PC)
While it’s true Floppy Knights isn’t quite a perfect experience, it came damned close. Sure, I’d love a reason to play the game longer, such as DLC levels or even something like a level creator, but that doesn’t change the quality of what’s already here. Floppy Knights is a fun game with a well-balanced challenge, good variety, and lovable characters.
