Floppy Knights is a charming experience that brings something unique to the table, even though it doesn’t reinvent the wheel for either of its genres. I do wish there was a little more meat to the experience, and despite the charming writing the story simply lacks a strong core. Despite that, however, it’s a journey that’s well worth taking, especially if you’re a fan of tactical games or deck builders.
Floppy Knights is a quirky turn-based strategy game where you command paper knights in battle. Assemble your deck of paper soldiers, each with unique abilities, and outsmart your opponents in tactical combat. The game features charming hand-drawn art and a delightful blend of humor and drama.

Players appreciate the light-hearted and humorous narrative, which serves as a backdrop for the strategic gameplay, although some find it predictable and lacking depth. Overall, the story complements the gameplay well, providing enough interest to keep players invested without overwhelming them with excessive dialogue.
“The story is also pretty breezy, with surprisingly well-written dialogue, but ultimately the situations are fairly simple and more of an excuse to play cards and beat up baddies. Despite this, it's very charming and a joy to read.”
“The storyline gives enough interest to draw you in to the next challenge, but doesn't overwhelm with too much dialogue.”
“There's tons of charm in this game, with simple yet cute dialogue and a really engaging story that feels almost Pokémon-style.”
“Building decks, piloting the deck, attempting the challenges, listening to the story - all feel tedious and unrewarding.”

The gameplay is a blend of turn-based strategy and deck-building mechanics, offering a satisfying and engaging experience that gradually introduces new elements and challenges. While some players appreciate the strategic depth and variety of objectives, others find the gameplay can become repetitive or unbalanced as they progress. Overall, the game is praised for its innovative mechanics and charming presentation, though it may require patience due to its learning curve and occasional slow pacing.
“The gameplay is simple, yet it has big room for some cool decks and strategies.”
“A true gem, beginners to the genre will appreciate Floppy Knight's gentle curve into difficulty as you learn the mechanics, simple at first but consistently introducing new elements to keep things fresh.”
“I was worried that the combination of deck-building mechanics and tactical gameplay wouldn't mesh well and come off as gimmicky, but I really enjoyed the blend of these genres and the different strategies I had to employ, as well as the variety of objectives throughout the levels.”
“But for me, it really falls flat in the most important area: the gameplay.”
“The only real downside is once you unlock everything, there's no real gameplay left.”
“While I really love the art, the gameplay and the idea, the battles are so slow that it takes forever.”

The graphics of the game are widely praised for their charming and cute art style, reminiscent of Saturday morning cartoons and similar to titles like Dicey Dungeons. Reviewers highlight the vibrant character designs, clean visuals, and cohesive music that enhance the overall aesthetic, contributing to an engaging and polished experience. While the visuals are delightful, they also cleverly mask the game's underlying complexity and strategic depth.
“The art style is charming, with characters that are expressive and colorful, but the cuteness doesn't detract from how satisfying it is to fly across the map and savage a goblin that killed one of your favorite troops.”
“Stunning artwork wrapping a very tightly designed, albeit traditional, tactics game.”
“The whole experience is wrapped in a very thorough art style that gives the game lots of visual polish, making it feel decently real.”
“The misleadingly simple and charming aesthetics hide a complex and challenging game that has something for everyone.”
“Floppy Knights's aesthetic isn't mysterious and edgy...”
“The art style resembles a Saturday morning cartoon; and the story and characters are funny and memorable.”

“Floppy Knights will keep you enthralled for hours with its brain-tickling challenges, catchy retro soundtrack, and adorable characters.”
“The music is catchy enough for me to shell out the extra 7 or 8 bucks for the soundtrack, with an upbeat retro style that perfectly matches the vibe of the game.”
“Disappointingly a bit of a waste of quality art and music.”
“However, the soundtrack, art style, story and turn-based combat still form a very fun and engaging game that you should definitely pick up during a sale if you are into tactical games.”

Overall, players find the grinding aspect of the game to be minimal, with many noting that there is little to no grinding for cards or levels. However, the gameplay elements such as deck building and challenges can feel tedious and unrewarding, leading to a lack of engagement over time. While coins are earned easily, the experience can still feel monotonous, particularly after the initial stages.
“Building decks, piloting the deck, attempting the challenges, listening to the story - all feel tedious and unrewarding.”
“Only the first couple are interesting, past that they are just tedious to play.”

The game offers limited replayability after completing the main story, which lasts around 10-12 hours, as the scenarios remain the same in subsequent playthroughs. However, players can find some replay value in the challenge section and by experimenting with new decks and tactics. Overall, while there are elements that encourage replay, the core experience may feel repetitive once the story is finished.
“The challenge section and the new decks offer a lot of replayability, and I'm fully committed to building the perfect deck and giving the hooligans the murder squad they deserve.”
“The scenarios will be the same on subsequent runthroughs, so the replayability consists of the new decks and tactics that you might bring to them.”
“-$20 is a steal for a game of this quality, the amount of content, and the replayability.”
“This game doesn't offer much in the way of replayability, so once you finish the game, that's about it.”
“The downside is that the game does have somewhat limited replayability once you've beaten the story (devs estimate ~10-12 hours, if I recall correctly) and optional challenge levels.”

Floppy Knights has the same nagging demand to play that Advance Wars has: to satisfy a sub-objective, to progress the campaign, to unlock a particular unit. Even as we write now, we have the urge to get floppy with Floppy Knights. If you’ve got a turn-based bone in your body, we’d encourage you to do the same.
70%Floppy Knights Review (PC)
While it’s true Floppy Knights isn’t quite a perfect experience, it came damned close. Sure, I’d love a reason to play the game longer, such as DLC levels or even something like a level creator, but that doesn’t change the quality of what’s already here. Floppy Knights is a fun game with a well-balanced challenge, good variety, and lovable characters.
