  • Engaging dinosaur-themed FPS with solid gunplay and satisfying combat mechanics.
  • Beautiful and immersive environments with detailed dinosaur models and atmospheric audio.
  • Large levels encouraging exploration with secrets and crafting features enhancing gameplay.
  • Numerous bugs and glitches affecting gameplay, including crashes, AI issues, and progression blockers.
  • Subpar enemy AI causing unbalanced and often repetitive combat encounters.
  • Unpolished mechanics such as clunky controls, awkward crafting/inventory system, poor audio mixing, and limited graphics options.
  • story

    122 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The story in this game receives mixed reviews, with some players finding it engaging, unique, and emotionally touching, while others consider it generic, bland, or derivative of familiar dinosaur-themed media like Jurassic Park. Many praise the overall concept and atmosphere but note that bugs, pacing issues, and occasional lack of mission clarity detract from the narrative experience. Despite flaws, the story is often seen as a solid foundation with potential, especially considering the small development team.

    • “Excellent story, really enjoyed myself, thank you.”
    • “After a little over 20 hours poured into the game and dealing with a considerable amount of bugs and glitches, I finally finished the story and can happily recommend this!”
    • “Edit - I finished the game, the story line was amazing, I don't think any dinosaur game would top this, I 100% recommend.”
    • “The graphics are nice but the gameplay becomes super boring and the story is equally boring.”
    • “The story is a bit bland and run of the mill Far Cry/original The Forest vibes.”
    • “Fun game and gameplay, yet with all the bugs it means nothing as it’s so poorly done that some playthroughs you can’t beat the game as the game breaking bugs block progression in the story or force replay over and over.”
  • gameplay

    96 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The gameplay offers a mix of enjoyable core mechanics, including fun gunplay, crafting, and dinosaur control, but is often hindered by repetitive loops, jankiness, bugs, and sometimes unintelligent AI. While the traversal and combat systems show promise and can be engaging when functioning correctly, frequent technical issues and unpolished elements detract significantly from the experience. Overall, the game has potential and unique features, yet requires substantial bug fixes and refinement to deliver a consistently satisfying gameplay experience.

    • “Sure it's a bit rough around the edges and definitely has some weird glitches and jank, but the gameplay loop is solid and the sound design is really good... whenever it works that is.”
    • “The graphics are actually really good, the gameplay is fun, and the AI is decent—sometimes even unintentionally funny.”
    • “Overall, what Ferocious may lack in a compelling story, individuality or cutting edge graphics, it certainly makes up for with engaging gameplay, innovative mechanics, fluid movement, and the right amount of jank to seal the deal for me.”
    • “It's hours longer than it needs to be and the gameplay loop is so repetitive that I actually couldn't force myself to play through to the end.”
    • “The world feels empty, the AI does not do much to make it hard, the gameplay is stagnant, lacks any weight and does an awful job drawing you in.”
    • “That's basically all the positives for this game: the environments can become very hard to traverse; there is a setting to turn off the classic yellow paint but it basically means nothing as all climb points just pulse white instead, which makes climbing somehow harder to achieve. The AI enemies, especially the human enemies, are incredibly dumb as being detected by them is incredibly easy to avoid (you can literally crouch-walk in front of them and as long as you are quick they won't see you). It's obvious the game wants you to backtrack at points to use keys but the incentive to do so is quickly lost due to the weird Dark Souls-esque save mechanics. Yes, you are able to make your own save points but a game like this does not fit the limited save locations mechanic, turning fight segments more into something similar to Doom or Half-Life other than what this game obviously wants fight sequences to be.”
  • graphics

    91 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The graphics in the game are generally praised for their beautiful environments, immersive atmosphere, and dinosaur models, often compared favorably to titles like Far Cry and The Forest. However, many users report technical issues including limited graphics settings, performance drops, graphical glitches, and bugs that detract from the visual experience. While visually impressive for a smaller indie title, the lack of polish and customization options holds back its full potential.

    • “The graphics are absolutely stunning and the game takes some inspiration from Far Cry and Turok and combines into a linear game with dinosaurs.”
    • “The graphics and visuals are excellent, the story is engaging, and I really enjoy the mechanic where you can control smaller dinosaurs.”
    • “The graphics of the environments overall look great, it has a really good mood and atmosphere to it, compounded by the jungle themed combat music (ace move, devs, really gets the heart pumpin').”
    • “The graphical settings (what few there actually are) were maxed out, and still the game was genuinely just kind of unpleasant and difficult to look at.”
    • “Normally I wouldn't be particularly harsh on an indie game's graphics, but again, everything is so muddy that it practically felt like it would affect my vision if I looked at it much longer.”
    • “On top of that, there aren’t enough graphics settings to properly tweak performance.”
  • stability

    73 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game is notably buggy and prone to various glitches, including crashes, animation errors, AI issues, and immersion-breaking problems, which can sometimes hinder progression or enjoyment. Despite these stability issues, many players find the gameplay fun and engaging, appreciating the developers' efforts and ongoing patches aimed at improving stability. However, the current state may frustrate players seeking a polished, glitch-free experience.

    • “The game runs great, had one crash after 3 and a half hours of play time but that was expected, love the gunplay.”
    • “Playing through the whole game, I would recommend this. It's a beautiful game with great atmosphere, good gunplay, and core gameplay. There are still bugs present at launch, but the devs are working on them.”
    • “The game runs great. Sure, it is a bit clunky here and there, but the overall visuals and atmosphere are very immersive and enjoyable.”
    • “I played this game, but after several hours of glitchy, choppy gameplay, it freezes and reverts back to the title screen, no matter what I do.”
    • “Buggy mess of a dumpster fire.”
    • “Game is buggy as hell that badly you can't finish it.”
  • optimization

    40 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Optimization is a major concern, with many users reporting poor performance, stuttering, crashes, and a lack of modern features like upscaling and frame generation. While high-end PCs can often run the game smoothly, mid-range and handheld systems struggle due to limited graphics settings and problematic resolution support. Overall, the game feels under-optimized and buggy, significantly impacting the experience until further updates improve performance.

    • “Performance has been completely smooth on my system, with no major issues.”
    • “So far I like it, great performance on 4k between 110 and 150 fps (on RTX 4080).”
    • “The first part of the game is a little rough and not as well optimized as the second part of the island, but once you get to that second area the game seems to be solid from that point on.”
    • “For a new release, the absence of modern upscaling, frame generation, and basic quality-of-life features hurts performance and accessibility far more than it should.”
    • “On top of that, the game does not properly recognize some resolutions on handheld PCs like the Steam Deck and Legion Go S, which makes optimizing performance and image quality more difficult than it should be.”
    • “With all my heart, I cannot really recommend this game right now. It's a mess from every point of view; technically speaking, it has memory leak issues from Unity, performance degrading even with a 5080 and i9 13900k. This game needs to be put in the oven again for more cooking, nowhere near 1.0. Please make it clear it is in early access because it feels like I'm still playtesting.”
  • atmosphere

    20 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game’s atmosphere is widely praised for its stunning visuals, immersive jungle environments, and nostalgic vibe reminiscent of classics like Far Cry and Turok. The combination of detailed graphics, ambient music, and intense dinosaur encounters creates a captivating mood, though occasional bugs and some weak voice acting slightly detract from the experience. Overall, players find the atmosphere rich, engaging, and a strong highlight of the game.

    • “Nature, dinos, weapon animations, atmosphere - is stunning.”
    • “Graphics of the environments overall look great, it has a really good mood and atmosphere to it, compounded by the jungle themed combat music. Ace move, devs, really gets the heart pumping.”
    • “For an indie project, the visual quality is way above what I expected—the atmosphere, lighting, and environmental detail look better than what many big AAA studios deliver these days.”
    • “Voice work is weak: flat delivery, mismatched pacing, and lines that sound like raw script reads, which kills tension and atmosphere.”
    • “The atmosphere of the game really takes you back to those classics.”
    • “It plays a lot like the older Far Cry games and has the Turok atmosphere to it.”
  • music

    14 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The music in the game receives mixed feedback, with some praising its jungle-themed, tense, and atmospheric qualities that enhance immersion, while others find it repetitive, annoying, and prone to technical issues like looping problems and abrupt cutouts. Sound inconsistencies and mismatched intensity levels have also been noted, leading some players to prefer turning the music off in favor of ambient sounds.

    • “Graphics of the environments overall look great, it has a really good mood and atmosphere to it, compounded by the jungle themed combat music (ace move, devs, really gets the heart pumpin').”
    • “Music is tense, gripping, and mysterious.”
    • “Combat is easy to grasp even if the AI is a little dumb, the music—I love it. Quite honestly stalking across this island using either stealth or straight-up gun fights to take on your enemies is great fun.”
    • “Once I start the game I just hear music and the screen stays black.”
    • “Major lack of music or different sounds.”
    • “There were also some inconsistencies with the sounds (specifically during stealth when the sound disappears) and the music (when it gets intense even when the combat is not present).”
  • humor

    10 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The humor in the game is often unintentional, characterized by ridiculous bugs, goofy dialogue, and quirky AI behaviors that many find amusing despite sometimes feeling frustrating. Its mix of silly moments, such as funny ragdolls and bizarre character reactions, adds a lighthearted charm that enhances the overall experience for players who appreciate janky, offbeat comedy.

    • “It's not perfect, far from it but it delivers an epic and often hilarious journey.”
    • “Some are funny and it actually makes me like the game even more!”
    • “Silently killing enemies causes them to hilariously ragdoll with absolutely no weight to their falls, and when I threw a spear into one enemy's head and one of his buddies saw it, the buddy uncaringly said 'another one down' and casually walked over to the body.”
  • emotional

    8 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game delivers a thrilling and heartfelt story with a touching, surreal ending that evokes strong emotions, even bringing players to tears. Its atmosphere and action-packed gameplay create an engaging, nostalgic experience, though bugs and AI issues slightly detract from the overall emotional impact. With further polish, it has the potential to become a truly memorable and emotionally resonant title.

    • “The story is thrilling and heartfelt.”
    • “Playing through the whole game, I would recommend this. It's a beautiful game with great atmosphere, good gunplay and core gameplay. It made me cry at one point (you'll find out why if you play it).”
    • “The ending was touching and surreal.”
  • grinding

    4 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Grinding in the game is often slow and tedious due to lengthy pickup animations and hold interactions for gathering materials, which can disrupt pacing. While exploration is enjoyable initially, it becomes monotonous in later areas, and some players find the overall grind unengaging despite decent combat and large maps.

    • “On another note this game looks like a mashup of Ark and Far Cry but plays exactly like The Forest with dinosaurs. All in all 5/10 — I think I'll keep it in my library because of the low price point but I'm not sure I'm going to be grinding it out until it gets some more patches.”
    • “Actually obtaining the materials is pretty much always pickup interaction with a 'hold F' then wait for the animation. I'm not a fan of this; very quickly it becomes slow and tedious. A quick pickup without the animation and hold key would be a much better fit to keep pacing.”
    • “The maps are quite large, which is nice, but exploring them can sometimes feel a bit tedious in later areas.”
  • replayability

    2 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game offers high replayability, featuring multiple approaches and paths in most situations that encourage players to fight back and explore different strategies.

    • “The replay value of this gem is outstanding.”
    • “If you want a game where you can fight back, this is the game. With many different approaches and paths in most situations, this game offers a lot of replayability.”
  • monetization

    2 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's monetization is intrusive and affects performance, causing frame drops during ads and certain in-game actions. Additionally, holding ads unintentionally advances the player, which disrupts gameplay flow. Overall, the ad implementation feels clunky and detracts from the experience.

  • character development

    1 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Character development is criticized for being unengaging and lacking depth, with players finding certain character actions and dialogues illogical and failing to meaningfully advance the story.
