Disney Speedstorm is a game that I can see myself returning to, both for the new seasons and to dive into high-action races with my favorite characters.
Disney Speedstorm is a multiplayer racing game featuring Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. The Standard Founder's Pack includes early access to the game, additional racer unlocks, in-game currency, and exclusive founder's items. Players can use tokens to purchase items from the shop, obtain the Golden Pass, and more. Note that some characters, like Baloo and Belle, can be unlocked immediately using the credits.

The gameplay of Disney Speedstorm is widely praised for its solid mechanics, fast-paced racing, and engaging character abilities, making it a standout in the kart racing genre. However, many players express frustration with the game's monetization strategies, particularly the gacha mechanics and grind-heavy progression system, which detract from the overall experience. While the core racing mechanics and visuals are enjoyable, the heavy reliance on microtransactions and the complexity of unlocking characters and upgrades have led to mixed feelings among players.
“The gameplay is absolutely solid.”
“The racing mechanics are intuitive and easy to pick up, but there's enough depth there to keep players engaged over the long term.”
“Polished racing feel, a vicious sense of speed, a badass cinematic camera that ebbs and flows with your kart's acrobatics, tons of new mechanics... mechanically, it is a pitch-perfect game and by far the most innovative and meaningful contribution to the kart-racing genre in nearly a decade.”
“Gameplay is fun but not fun enough to justify the terrible loot box mechanics to make the game even playable.”
“A good racing game bogged down with gacha mechanics and terrible rubber-banding; stay away unless they fix it.”
“The game is undoubtedly fun and very well polished, but there's no excuse for the horrific gacha mechanics.”

The music in the game has received widespread acclaim, with many reviewers praising its energetic remixes of classic Disney songs that enhance the racing experience. Players appreciate the catchy soundtrack, which not only complements the gameplay but also stands out as a highlight, making it enjoyable to listen to even outside of the game. Overall, the combination of great music, solid gameplay, and appealing graphics contributes to a fun and immersive kart racing experience.
“The soundtrack and race tracks are absolutely incredible and it has a fun gameplay loop.”
“The music alone is outstanding with banger remixes of classic Disney songs.”
“The music slaps so hard for what this game is, and overall it has been a fun kart racer and probably the best one we've ever gotten on PC.”
“The music is okay, but not my favorite among kart racers (ModNation Racers wears that crown for me).”
“All of the music has these weird nobody asked for remixes.”
“Speaking of generic, the music is hit or miss but mostly miss.”

The monetization in this game has been widely criticized for being overly aggressive and reminiscent of mobile game practices, with many players feeling it detracts significantly from the overall experience. Reviews highlight a heavy reliance on microtransactions, including pay-to-win elements and a convoluted gacha system that complicates character acquisition and progression. While the core gameplay is praised, the pervasive monetization tactics are seen as a major drawback, leading many to label the game as a cash grab.
“The monetization has started to get out of hand, but the game itself is great.”
“If the game maintains fair practices of monetization of cosmetics and faster progression, while allowing people to max characters/play competitively without paying, I think the game will do very well.”
“This is still a really good game, but there's a glaring issue with its monetization.”
“Every improvement comes with worse and worse monetization to the point where this game feels like a slot machine with a minor bit of racing attached.”
“A textbook example of how to make a great game and ruin it with predatory microtransactions.”
“The monetization in this game is, simply put, disgusting.”

The graphics of the game have received widespread praise for their vibrant colors, intricate designs, and overall visual appeal, often compared favorably to Disney and Pixar aesthetics. Many players noted the smooth performance across various platforms, including high-end PCs and the Steam Deck, while some mentioned minor issues like character graphics being less impressive than the rest. Overall, the visuals are considered a strong point of the game, contributing to an enjoyable racing experience.
“The graphics in Disney Speedstorm are absolutely stunning, with bright, vivid colors and intricate designs that really bring each track to life.”
“Beautiful game with incredible visuals, soundtrack, and core gameplay.”
“The graphics are very very good for a racing game.”
“Graphics are okay, but gameplay is a bit clunky, almost like a mobile game; you don't really feel immersed.”
“The menus are confusing, and for a game with cartoon graphics and Disney characters, it should not push gambling mechanics. An adult like myself shouldn't be totally confused in the menus either.”
“Character graphics are a step down from everything else in the game.”

The game is widely criticized for its excessive grinding, particularly for free-to-play players who find progression slow and often reliant on luck with loot boxes. While some players appreciate the gameplay and find the grind manageable, many express frustration over the tediousness and the need to invest significant time or money to unlock characters and upgrades. Overall, the grinding aspect is seen as a major downside, detracting from the enjoyment of the game.
“There could be more features for the online aspect, and the ranked mode becomes extremely grindy.”
“Unfortunately, it has become extremely grindy since becoming free-to-play because they want to slow down progression so that you open your wallet to speed things up.”
“The amount of grinding one will have to do in order to obtain the characters, cosmetics, upgrades, and whatnot will be long as hell.”

The game's story mode is criticized for its restrictive progression, requiring specific characters and levels to advance, which can lead to frustration for players who lack the necessary racers. While there are various challenge races and missions that provide opportunities to learn mechanics and unlock characters, many players feel that the limitations hinder their ability to fully enjoy the story experience. Additionally, the reliance on grinding and character-specific requirements has led to perceptions of a pay-to-win model, detracting from the overall narrative enjoyment.
“There's a couple of different online race modes, as well as a ton of story quests that take the form of various challenge races - standard races, time trials, elimination modes, ones where you need to play as a certain character, and ones with missions to perform a certain number of stuns or use a number of items. There's a lot of variety, and they seem like a great way to learn the mechanics, as well as start unlocking some characters and leveling them up!”
“On top of that, in addition to your standard daily and weekly rotation of battle pass challenges to complete for progress, there seems to be a system in place for a seasonal story mode with challenges similar to the base game's story quest, with tons of time trials and objectives to complete to earn experience on the pass, even as a solo player or someone still learning and gearing up.”
“It follows the story of breaking bad perfectly.”
“Got the founder's pack when the game launched and was overwhelmed with the stuff you could do, but since the beginning, you couldn't progress the story mode if you didn't have certain characters like Hercules, Sparrow, and Belle.”
“Progress in both story and events is halted to make sure you play every day.”
“One of them I currently can only do with a level 10 Pirates of the Caribbean character of which I have none. The story mode now has three chapters completely locked behind characters I don't have and can only get through random drops, which are 1-2 shards out of the 10 needed for a base character at a time.”

Overall, the game's optimization is praised for its excellent performance on PC, with features like native 21:9 support and advanced graphical settings, making it stand out in a landscape often plagued by optimization issues. However, the Switch version suffers from significant performance problems, particularly in handheld mode, leading to a blurry and stuttery experience. While the game is polished and mostly bug-free, some users noted minor performance issues and a confusing progression system.
“The game also has exceptional performance and a super responsive and clean UX.”
“The graphics may be simple and some say it's mobile-like, but it's good for what it's intended for. The fact that the game supports native 21:9, unlocked framerates, advanced graphical settings, etc. is very impressive in this day and age of PC games having multiple issues at launch, including stutters and being unoptimized, especially considering this game is in early access!”
“One last note: Steam Deck users can rest easy knowing this game is fairly well optimized for it.”
“Racers and their performance upgrades are locked behind pay-to-skip grinds.”
“Graphics are awesome on PC, would have liked to purchase on Switch but heard performance was awful.”
“Its performance on Switch lets it down, though, especially on handheld where it's a blurry, stuttery mess, and those not interested in the live service setup will struggle to get along with it.”

The game exhibits several glitches and occasional crashes, which are typical for early access titles, but many players find it enjoyable despite these issues. While some users report significant visual bugs that hinder gameplay, others note that the game runs well on platforms like the Steam Deck. Overall, stability is a mixed bag, with players acknowledging the need for further polish and balance.
“The game runs great on the Steam Deck.”
“I haven't encountered any issues so far, and it runs smoothly on the Steam Deck.”
“Sometimes has visual glitches so bad it's hard to play and crashes occasionally, but considering it's in early access, I'll take that.”
“Yes, it has bugs, glitches, and the way to level up makes it seem like a mobile game instead of an actual PC/console game.”
“Still buggy, but what isn't these days? I would wait a little longer to smooth out and better balance.”

The humor in the game is described as both intentional and ironic, with players finding amusement in the game's deceptive mechanics, such as the quick access to the shop and the frustrating lag issues. While the driving experience is enjoyable, the overall sentiment suggests that the humor is overshadowed by the game's problematic elements, leading to a lack of recommendation despite its comedic moments.
“How shameless that they made the select button a quick access to the shop; it's hilarious how deceitful this game is at this point.”
“The game is good and funny; the karts and the feeling of driving are very good, and the handling is responsive and fast-paced.”
“Like €20 for 5 shards for a racer is bad... that won't even unlock the racer; it's hilarious.”

Players express a deep emotional connection to the game, highlighting its ability to evoke nostalgia and joy reminiscent of childhood experiences. The combination of engaging gameplay, memorable music, and unique character interactions contributes to a heartfelt gaming experience that resonates strongly with users.
“A part from the incredible gameplay (best I've ever experienced with a karting game), fantastic music (seriously, play with a Woojer vest, and it's a game changer), fun tracks, interesting characters, and specific animations and sound bites for every character (refreshing from the cut-and-paste that you see everywhere else)... I actually want to share my 'moment' of gameplay that made me feel like a kid (which, I think, whether we're aware of it or not, we all long to have a game do that to us).”
“If you've read this over-the-top emotional/nostalgic review, thank you.”

“Meg and Belle are playable characters, but the overall replayability feels lacking.”
“While there are some rewards, the replayability of the game is quite limited.”

Disney Speedstorm Review!
Disney Speedstorm is a unique take on the Kart racing genre. Attempting to be free to play in the hopes to gain favour. Riddled with microtransactions and lacking in spirit, the game unfortunately falls a bit flat.

Disney Speedstorm has plenty of potential, but at present the racing feels unbalanced and there's far too much currency to get familiar with.
55%Disney Speedstorm Early Access Review - Super Slick Kart Racing That Isn't As Pay To Win As You Think
With a potentially boundless universe of characters, worlds and more to tap into, Disney Speedstorm could conceivably provide fans of the House of Mouse with a steady diet of endless Disney themed content to get stuck into. Gorgeous to look at super satisfying to play, Disney Speedstorm's pay to win mechanics aren't sufficiently weighty to substantially detract from everything that it does right and for fans of both all things Walt Disney and kart racing, Disney Speedstorm will likely prove to be an irresistible proposition that could largely mitigate the grind of its longer term prospects.
