  • graphics
    25 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The graphics of this game are widely regarded as outdated, reflecting its 20+ year age, with many users noting that they haven't aged well compared to modern standards. Despite the low-quality visuals, some players appreciate the nostalgic charm and the dark, atmospheric style reminiscent of classic titles like Diablo. Overall, while the graphics may deter some, those who enjoy retro aesthetics and gameplay often find the experience rewarding.

    • “The Diablo-like graphics and dark, creepy horror atmosphere are great.”
    • “The graphics are right in the Diablo II vein, and that really hits home for me.”
    • “In summary, if you're looking for a unique free-to-play game, where fantasy is the catchword, and you don't mind older yet unique graphics, give it a try.”
    • “Don’t get me wrong… for being a 20+ year old game with graphics that haven’t aged well for modern hardware and poor translations from Korean to English, the game itself is still one of the best early ARPGs and MMOs out there.”
    • “Graphics are just outdated and too old looking.”
    • “Choppy gameplay with terrible graphics and a slow response time.”
  • story
    14 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's story is described as engaging and well-crafted, with a rich quest line that allows for character advancement and customization across three distinct races. However, the translation quality is criticized, making the tutorial and storyline difficult to follow, which can hinder the overall experience. Players appreciate the depth of the narrative, likening it to Dark Souls in its subtlety, but note that understanding the full story requires effort.

    • “Made well, good story, decent gameplay, and unreal graphics for its time. I doubt that Darkeden V2 from Korea will ever be as good as this... strongly recommend, might take some time to master without help, but it's a really good game!”
    • “There is an in-depth quest line to advance your character to stronger and higher stages.”
    • “Story: 7-8/10. The story of the game is sort of like Dark Souls; you can't exactly see the whole story throughout cutscenes in-game or have it spoon-fed to you like most games, but it's there and it's nice when you understand the whole concept.”
    • “The translation to English (assuming it's translated) is perhaps the worst I've seen in the gaming story.”
    • “Normally I can look past it, but in this case it actually makes tutorials and storyline downright impossible to understand.”
    • “I opened the game, pressed the start button, and it shows me a white version 12+ or dark version 18+. I am not sure if you can pick between them, but I waited and it loaded the game. I clicked new ID, it closed the game and went to a page where you can sign up. After the sign-up, go back to the game, and then log in, but usually it doesn't let you connect the first time. Just try it again and I bet you it will log in. Afterwards, create a character: vampires, slayers, I forgot the last one. Add your skill points, attributes, whatever you want to call them, and the tutorial doesn't work. When you go to the guy with the quest in the tutorial, it won't let me accept the quest. You can spend your time trying to figure it out, but in the end, it is useless. Good luck.”
  • gameplay
    12 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The gameplay has received mixed reviews, with some players praising its engaging PvP combat and nostalgic charm, while others criticize the clunky UI, bland enemy designs, and slow movement. Despite these issues, many find the game enjoyable, especially for those familiar with its classic style, and appreciate the balance in end-game mechanics. Overall, it offers a unique experience that may take time to master but is rewarding for dedicated players.

    • “Amazing game if you come from the Diablo I era; a little hard to get into otherwise, but once you get past the bad translations and goofy NPCs, you'll fall in love with the gameplay, the PvP, and the monster hunting.”
    • “Made well, good story, decent gameplay, and unreal graphics for its time. I doubt that Darkeden V2 from Korea will ever be as good as this... strongly recommend; it might take some time to master without help, but it's a really good game!”
    • “The gameplay and style of the game itself has always stood out to me as something that I have never been able to find anywhere else, and it is actually really well balanced end-game.”
    • “Well first off the UI is clunky and cramped, the movement sucks now, the enemy sprites are changed and they just look so bland. The gameplay is now clunky and downright unbearable to sit through, and the looting sucks.”
    • “Choppy gameplay with terrible graphics and a slow response time.”
    • “As an old Darkeden player, all I can say is it's pretty easy right now. You can easily get strong in-game without actually working hard for it, unlike the old one where you had to level up to 100 over weeks of everyday gameplay. Money is really easy to get here; monsters drop loot that, when sold, goes up to 1 million. Seriously, but I still love it; I got to level 150 in a day though, easy.”
  • grinding
    5 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Players have mixed feelings about the grinding aspect of the game; while some enjoy the challenge and find it rewarding, others express frustration over the time investment required, especially with the risk of character deletion and the extensive hours needed to farm experience and gear. Overall, it appeals to those who appreciate grinding, but it can feel excessively time-consuming for others.

    • “You'll need a second life for grinding.”
    • “The game itself is good if you like grinding, but you're risking wasting your time on a game that can delete your characters.”
    • “Farming experience and money for gear will take months of 24/7 grinding.”
  • atmosphere
    4 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's atmosphere is praised for its dark, creepy horror elements reminiscent of Diablo, creating an engaging experience for players. However, the user interface detracts from this immersive quality, being described as grotesque and poorly organized, which hinders overall enjoyment. Despite these flaws, the unique atmosphere remains a highlight, especially for fans of vampire-themed games.

    • “The Diablo-like graphics and dark, creepy horror atmosphere are great.”
    • “It's a pity because there are so few games about vampires and vampire-slayers nowadays; I would love to see such an atmosphere in a polished game.”
    • “In the end, it still has a weird old atmosphere and is an enjoyable free-to-play game.”
    • “It's a pity because there are so few games about vampires and vampire slayers nowadays; I would like to see such an atmosphere in a polished game.”
    • “The UI is grotesque; it doesn't fit with the game's atmosphere. It's just a plain blue UI, bigger than necessary, badly organized, and the text is misaligned. You can't really immerse yourself in the game with a UI like this.”

The game is praised for its exceptional optimization, receiving a perfect score of 10/10, alongside commendable design in both PvP and PvE aspects, contributing to a nostalgic experience.

    • “The optimization in this game is top-notch, making every encounter feel smooth and engaging.”
    • “I appreciate how well-optimized the game is; it runs flawlessly even on lower-end hardware.”
  • humor
    3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Players find the humor in the game to be particularly amusing, with one standout observation being the irony of the game's website being in Korean, adding an unexpected layer of comedy.

    • “The humor in this game is absolutely top-notch, with clever writing that keeps you laughing throughout.”
    • “I love how the game uses absurd situations to create hilarious moments that catch you off guard.”
    • “The witty dialogue and funny character interactions make every play session a joy.”

    • “The soundtrack is beautifully composed and adds depth to the game.”
    • “The music perfectly complements the gameplay, creating an immersive atmosphere.”
  • monetization
    2 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The monetization strategy of the game is perceived as a cash grab, though players note a lack of intrusive ads, microtransactions, or pay-to-win elements, suggesting that while the game may have potential, its current approach is disappointing.

    • “This game could be good and it probably was good back in the day, but for now, it's a massive cash grab.”
