"Clid the Snail" is a top-down shooter with a focus on narrative and strategic combat. As the outcast snail Clid, you'll explore a dangerous world, form a new family, and uncover the truth behind a devastating slug plague. Utilize precise gunplay and enemy behavior analysis to survive, and unleash your creativity with a variety of unique weapons. This is a story of exile, friendship, and betrayal, wrapped in a world full of challenges and threats.

- Clid the Snail features a unique and charming world with well-designed environments and a variety of weapons that encourage experimentation with different playstyles.
- The minimalistic story is effective and includes humorous moments, complemented by engaging boss fights that showcase creative mechanics.
- The game is relatively short, making it a manageable experience that doesn't overstay its welcome, and it has a distinct art style that many players find appealing.

- The dialogue and cutscenes can be tedious, with slow pacing and a lack of voice acting that detracts from the overall experience.
- story30 mentions Positive Neutral Negative
The game's story is described as minimalistic and simple, with some engaging moments and memorable characters, but it often suffers from excessive dialogue and a lack of depth, leading to a repetitive gameplay experience. While some players found charm in its humor and unique concept, others criticized it for being slow-paced and lacking a compelling narrative. Overall, the story is seen as a mixed bag, with enjoyable elements overshadowed by its shortcomings.
“Its story is minimalistic and simple, yet effective, with moments of humor that add charm, and well-designed boss fights, featuring engaging mechanics and patterns.”
“The plot is quite simple, but the characters have enough personality that I always enjoyed the dialogue regardless.”
“The world and story, though, is the high point for this game; I can already tell.”
“There's way too long dialogue during and between missions with gibbering voice acting that you'll likely just skip because it's boring, but sometimes cues of what your objective is are in there, punishing you for skipping.”
“The story is pretty boring, as you're just clearing out nests of slugs and other animals before heading back to base and doing it again.”
“The plot was rushed; you only spend a limited amount of time in each zone or talking to each being, so you never get to have a lasting impression from anything.”
Clid the Snail (PC) Review
Weird Beluga attempted to merge two distinct genres of game with Clid the Snail: top-down shooter and narrative. Although they succeeded on the worldbuilding and narrative front, the gunplay feels unforgiving, repetitive, and frustrating. I can't sleight them for trying something new, as I generally enjoyed Clid's grimy world, but I really did want more. I can't wait to see where Weird Beluga go, as Clid is a good start for hopefully something better in the future.
