The gameplay has received mixed reviews, with some players frustrated by frequent restarts and misleading promotional content. While the mechanics for cutting, chopping, and mixing are praised for their realism and variety, issues with physics and inconsistent mechanics detract from the overall experience. Despite these flaws, many find the core gameplay enjoyable and engaging.
“While the cutting, scooping, and mixing mechanics have issues, they are easily the most realistic and granular I've seen for any game of its kind.”
“The mechanics themselves felt fun, though some aspects could definitely use some work.”
“Cutting, chopping, stove top actions, and counter work mechanics are about as good as you can expect.”
“I didn't bother fighting through it to make it to the rest of the game because I had to start over about 10 times to get anywhere and still failed because the game wasn't allowing it to happen. The gameplay in the video is misleading; if you do happen to buy it, remember you can refund it if you have less than 2 hours of gameplay.”
“- Physics problems and inconsistent mechanics (a loaf of bread will fly away when I try to cut it, containers transcend into the next dimension when trying to scoop ingredients, etc.)”

“If virtual reality puts you in the place of the protagonist, then our 'bachelor(ette) celebrity chef' must have cataracts, as the overall graphics are blurred to oblivion.”
“My new $1900.00 computer runs at 4.5 GHz and has an NVIDIA 1080 graphics card; there’s no way it’s that.”
“Huge framerate issues on GTX 1060 (not the best card, but I haven't had an issue with any other more graphics-intensive game I've played in VR).”

The story mode of the game is praised for its engaging and realistic portrayal of running a restaurant over a week, providing players with a sense of immersion. While some players find certain missions challenging, the overall narrative adds depth to the gameplay experience, allowing for skill mastery and chaotic fun in different modes.
“I think the story is really cool of just being in a kitchen for a week, as well gives it a nice sense of realism besides the actual game itself.”
“You can learn what it takes to run a restaurant in story mode, master your skills in timed mode, or cause chaotic fun in free play.”
“Let me tell you a story to help put this in perspective: before I finally gave up on this game ever growing up, I tried to freestyle a meatloaf.”
“One of the missions I can never get more than one star, when everything else I can get five stars.”
“You can learn what it takes to run a restaurant in story mode, master your skills in timed mode, or cause chaotic mayhem in free play.”

The game suffers from significant stability issues, with numerous bugs and glitches that hinder gameplay and create frustrating experiences. Players report that even simple tasks, like making a sandwich, are plagued by erratic physics and unresponsive mechanics, making it nearly impossible to enjoy the game as intended. While the concept is promising, the current state is marred by these technical problems that require urgent attention.
“The game is very buggy and hard to use.”
“The idea of the game is amazing and how they have it set up is even better, it's like you're really there... but the game is riddled with bugs. Not very long into the game, I saw countless bugs and glitches making it impossible to play. The first thing to do is make a sandwich, which is simple, but even cutting the bread was a bug; if you did it too soft, it forced the mesh of the loaf into the table and made it fly around the room. If you did it too fast, the same result occurred. You get the middle speed and it cuts it nicely, but no matter how you look and feel, the knife going in the cuts was always out of whack. The top of the piece was the perfect size, and then the bottom of the piece was so large that a giant couldn't fit it in his mouth. Then, when you're told to make a grilled cheese, you have to put cheese and such on the bread and put it on a grill. Instead of it making a connection or at least sticking together, the whole sandwich would fly apart. Simply putting it on the pan would make the bottom part of the meal ragdoll out and go flying like a UFO attacking a city.”
“First of all, I do really enjoy this game; however, there are some game-breaking frustrating glitches that need to be fixed.”
