“The tale of a brave feline hero on a quest to rescue his kidnapped sister is both engaging and charming, with a surprising depth that keeps you hooked from start to finish.”
“The story is fun, simple, and filled with cat puns.”
“The story is very meh though in my opinion.”
“The quests are also unbelievably basic and since it's all level locked you can only do 2 parts of a quest and can't do the other 3 for 45 minutes later.”
“The main story is fairly short which you can finish in around 3-4 hours of gameplay which feels a bit lacking for a main story line, but the side quests' stories make up for it.”

The gameplay of *Cat Quest* is characterized by its simplicity and accessibility, making it easy for players to pick up and enjoy. While the combat mechanics are straightforward and engaging, many players note that the gameplay can become repetitive over time, primarily consisting of fetch quests and combat with limited enemy variety. Despite its lack of depth, the game offers a charming experience with cute visuals, humorous dialogue, and a satisfying progression system, appealing particularly to those looking for a lighthearted RPG adventure.
“Gameplay is simple and fun to pick up and play.”
“The gameplay has to easily be the biggest part of the game with its plethora of unique dungeons to beat and gear to grab!”
“Engaging gameplay: the combat is straightforward yet satisfying, making it easy to pick up and play.”
“The gameplay is dated, repetitive, and pointlessly long, featuring grinding and progression all the way up to level 99.”
“You'll probably see 90% of everything you'll ever see in the game within the first hour of gameplay; it'll just be scaled up or given a new attack later down the line.”
“The gameplay is dull.”

The graphics of the game are widely praised for their charming and vibrant art style, which effectively brings the whimsical world of Felingard to life. Players appreciate the cute, colorful visuals and smooth animations, often comparing them to beloved titles like MapleStory and Ni no Kuni II. While some note that the graphics may be simplistic, they contribute significantly to the game's lighthearted atmosphere and overall enjoyment.
“The art style and character design bring the world of Felingard to life, with every cat, enemy, and NPC bursting with personality.”
“The graphics are vibrant, adorable, and perfect (or 'purrfect', as our hero would say) for the setting and style of the game.”
“The graphics are colorful, light, and easy on the eyes, and none of the action is graphic.”
“The visuals put me off a little bit at first.”
“While the art style looked cute and fine and all, the movement definitely feels a bit stiff.”
“Despite being wrapped in cutesy graphics and cat puns, it added a darker twist to a lot of the story I honestly wasn't expecting from such a colorful and overall upbeat game.”

The humor in "Cat Quest" is characterized by its abundance of cat puns and lighthearted dialogue, which many players find amusing and charming, even if some consider it repetitive or childish. The game effectively blends humor with its simple RPG mechanics, offering a fun and engaging experience filled with quirky references and entertaining side quests. While the humor resonates well with cat lovers and casual gamers, it may not appeal to everyone, particularly those who are less fond of puns.
“Cat Quest is an amazing, short, and hilarious indie game, with very simple RPG mechanics that should not be skipped.”
“The story is beautifully crafted, blending lighthearted humor with moments of genuine emotion.”
“The humor is heartfelt, the action runs well, and the game is lighthearted.”
“Half a beer for a fetch quest with the most asinine purpose behind it (go get a DVD collection that I use to make armor because reasons. Also, we need to shove another unfunny pop culture reference in).”
“The jokes fall flat and feel forced, making the humor more cringeworthy than entertaining.”
“I expected clever wit, but instead, I got tired clichés and predictable punchlines.”

The music in the game is generally described as charming and fitting, enhancing the lighthearted atmosphere with its upbeat and whimsical tones. However, many players note that the soundtrack suffers from a lack of variety, often cycling through only a few repetitive tracks, which can become annoying over time. While some appreciate the simplicity and effectiveness of the music, others find it forgettable and suggest that it detracts from the overall experience after extended play.
“The music in Cat Quest is kept rather simple, but it’s this simplicity that makes it so effective.”
“The game’s lighthearted tone, catchy soundtrack, and vibrant art style make it appealing for players of all ages.”
“The background music deserves a special mention; it’s so soothing and perfectly complements the laid-back vibe of the game.”
“Also, I noticed that the soundtrack repeats/cycles between 3 same songs, which makes me turn the music off after a while.”
“The only complaint I have in the sound department of the game is that there are not many music tracks, and you'll hear the same songs often, but I don't mind much, since I think the music of the game is good.”
“Not that the music is necessarily bad, but the way the game cycles between the same 3 songs was just annoying at one point.”

The grinding aspect of the game has received mixed feedback from players. While some find the repetitive tasks and backtracking tedious, especially during fetch quests and leveling, others appreciate the light-hearted nature of the grinding, noting that it can be enjoyable and less burdensome due to the game's humor and engaging quests. Overall, players suggest that while grinding is present, it varies in intensity and can be manageable, particularly for those who enjoy casual gameplay.
“No grinding required, unless you're trying to buy upgrades to every piece of gear or the spells you don't use.”
“Fortunately the side quests here are equally as enjoyable, albeit ever so one-dimensional, to coerce you into not grinding to level 99 (although some grinding is required to get to that specific level...).”
“Solid game: stunning visuals, great soundtrack and sound effects (though the sounds of achieving something gets very offensive to the ear when leveling spells), not too grindy, just the right amount, and a really cool story.”
“Some tasks are a little grinding, running back and forth between different parts of the map, and parts of it will feel a bit repetitive, but it is still a nice little game to spend a few hours in.”
“I'm glad it's not a very long game, though, because doing fetch quest after fetch quest starts to get tedious after a while.”
“The gameplay is dated, repetitive, and pointlessly long, featuring grinding and progression all the way up to level 99.”

Overall, "Cat Quest" offers a moderate to high level of replayability, primarily through its "New Game+" and "Mew Game" modes, which introduce additional challenges and modifiers. While many players appreciate the extra content and the ability to explore different builds, some feel that the game's repetitive elements and limited variety in quests may hinder long-term engagement. Despite these concerns, the game remains enjoyable for those seeking to complete challenges or achieve higher levels.
“Great replay value; the 'mew game' modes add a lot of challenge to the game.”
“The new game plus helps the replay value and introduces new challenges.”
“Overall a fantastic package, lasting me around 10-ish hours for a first playthrough, and with the ability to go into new game + mode, as well as 'mew game' (a new game which allows you to add different modifiers to the campaign), there's certainly some replayability here for completionists.”
“I would normally grind for achievements in games like these, but this game has horrible achievements, requiring you to beat the game at least 4 times, even though this game has no replay value.”
“The story and quests did not lend themselves to replayability, and by the end there's really not much reason to use anything but the very best items.”
“There isn't much replay value, due to the fact that the side quests (the real backbone) aren't as fun when it's just the same dialogue, and you're much stronger on new game +, and the fact that you've already spent so much time playing, but these aren't a deal breaker by any means and it's definitely worth the price.”

The atmosphere of the game is characterized by vibrant visuals, lighthearted charm, and a whimsical soundtrack that enhances both exploration and combat. While some players find the frequent cat puns and kiddish elements endearing, others feel they detract from the overall experience. Overall, the game offers a cute and engaging atmosphere that appeals to those seeking a fun and relaxed gaming experience, despite its shortcomings in story and character development.
“Each track subtly enhances the atmosphere, making battles feel more intense and exploration more magical.”
“The vibrant visuals and lighthearted atmosphere contribute to an enjoyable gaming experience.”
“A pleasant surprise of a game, Cat Quest catches your interest with its nice looks, nice music, and cat-tastic atmosphere, but quickly reveals itself to actually be more than just fluff.”
“More diverse musical themes and compositions could enhance the overall immersion and atmosphere of the game world.”
“If you like repetition with a cute atmosphere and easy controls, this game is right down your alley.”
“While the cat/purr/mew/paw jokes are repeated over and over again (maybe a bit too much, but as some say 'so bad it's actually good') they actually help keep the tone and atmosphere where it should be, never taking itself too seriously.”

Character development in the game is generally viewed as lacking, with many reviewers noting that aside from spell upgrades, there is minimal progression or depth to the characters. While the art style and character design are praised for their charm and creativity, the overall narrative and character growth are considered underwhelming, leaving players with a sense of missed potential in an RPG context. The game is enjoyable for its aesthetics and gameplay, but it does not deliver on the character development front.
“The art style and character design bring the world of Felingard to life, with every cat, enemy, and NPC bursting with personality.”
“All the animations are very fluid, character designs are smooth and imaginative, and the overland map is adorable and a joy to traverse.”
“Character development does allow players to play how they want to (more magic or more slashing).”
“Except for upgrading your spells, there is no character development and also no real challenge you have to overcome to progress further, so in my honest opinion, there is nothing that slightly resembles an RPG, leaving behind a bitter taste of unused potential.”
“Not that you should expect award-winning dialogue and seriously in-depth character development from a game that is cartoony in appearance and is called 'Cat Quest', but this is some of the worst I've ever seen.”
“This was a great game for me and my son to play together and scratches the action RPG itch much like other favorites Grim Dawn, Torchlight, and Diablo but without the gore and/or gloomy storyline and character development depth.”

Overall, the game's optimization is generally praised, with flawless performance and no bugs reported, making it playable on various hardware. “And you break into the next stage outside of the quest line where enemies are harder than you should be facing, but because your reflexes are honed, your balance of hitting power and maneuverability are set, and you've optimized a few spells to make your character/party a lean-running guerrilla ambush squad... you start banking experience and item upgrades like a game genie sellout.”
“I think the game was meant to be run off of a controller and they haven't optimized the mouse/keyboard options.”
“This means simple controls, not necessarily optimized for keyboard or controller, but in my opinion, it is still perfectly playable on PC.”

The monetization strategy of the game has been criticized for integrating excessive advertisements into the storyline, detracting from the overall experience. While the game initially appears to be a cash grab, it is noted for its polish and quality, though some sidequests feel more like promotional content than meaningful lore.
“Too many advertisements written into the storyline.”
“And speaking of side quests, three of them aren't even lore related; these three are either ads, promises of seeing more races other than cats, and the game developers are literally messing with you.”

While somewhat flawed and sprinkled with some minor annoyances, such as treasure boxes demanding back-tracking to unlock, and a lack of a proper quest log, Cat Quest succeeds with what it has to and is meant to be – being a fun game filled with cat puns without ever giving the player reasons to forget this. It is adorable, quirky, fun, cute, clever, and cool all at the same time, just like the cats it is inspired by. It truly shows that oftentimes less is more.
70%Cat Quest Review
Despite some irritating writing, and some difficulty balancing issues, Cat Quest is an amazing RPG. It takes the best features of other RPGs, and distils them down into a simple cocktail of fun mechanics and memorable moments. This should do good to scratch an itch for those who have never played a game like it, and those who swear by them. In short, this is a solid title, with few issues really holding it back.
