  • story
    22 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's story revolves around a resistance narrative where players fight against a new alien world order, blending elements of conspiracy and dark humor reminiscent of the Shadowrun franchise. While the missions are varied and engaging, some players find the initial challenges frustrating, particularly due to the game's expansive city layout and small text. Overall, the story is praised for its entertaining and immersive qualities, encouraging players to explore and engage with the narrative.

    • “It's a resistance story, the last bastion of free humanity against a new world order of aliens who merely claimed to come in peace; a conspiracy tale that lends well to the game's mechanical similarities with Deus Ex.”
    • “That little aesthetic, coupled with some of the more incredulous parts of the storyline, had me completely hooked and reeled in.”
    • “Aside from rescuing survivors and completing missions, if you happen to play the story mode, which you most definitely should, you'll also get to play an important part in Winston's plan to get whatever survivors you can rescue off to a remote island where unchipped people can live free once again.”
    • “It didn't take me long to just stop playing because the joy of searching out mission goals was heavily overshadowed by the frustration of two easily fixable issues.”
    • “Funnily enough, despite the dire-sounding story, the game visualizes the people from the world police corps as squid-like aliens, complete with their UFOs.”
    • “It took me about a dozen tries to do the first mission/rescue the first survivor, and each time I failed it was clear why I did.”
  • gameplay
    12 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The gameplay is described as addictive and reminiscent of challenging childhood games, combining a compelling resistance narrative with solid mechanics. Players engage in procedurally-generated environments, focusing on stealth, scavenging, and base-building, while the game offers varied hacking tools and a depth that enhances problem-solving. However, some users noted that the instructions for certain mechanics could be clearer.

    • “It's a resistance story, the last bastion of free humanity against a new world order of aliens who merely claimed to come in peace; a conspiracy tale that lends well to the game's mechanical similarities with Deus Ex.”
    • “I've only played 4.5 hours, and still haven't engaged with much of the actual mechanics for building up your resistance base, so can't yet comment on how that works (will edit to do so), but the basic structure of the game is that you begin at your resistance hub, take posted jobs, and head out into procedurally-generated city blocks patrolled by squid cops, at which point you pursue whatever your primary objective may be while simultaneously sneaking around, looting supplies for both yourself and your base, and rescuing other survivors to bring back to your base and add to your resistance movement.”
    • “The game would be fun enough if it was simply a procedurally-generated extraction looter with Deus Ex-style tools and hacking in place of outright weapons, but the fact it has a broader arc, both mechanically and narratively, in the form of building up your resistance, really ties it together.”
    • “It's very charming with its throwback to old school graphics, but don't let that fool you; this game has a lot of depth in its gameplay with many ways to solve problems.”

    • “It's very charming with its throwback to old-school graphics, but don't let that fool you; this game has a lot of depth in its gameplay with many ways to solve problems.”
