The game's story is currently a mixed bag, with some players finding it uninteresting and forgettable, while others appreciate the backstory and quest integration. Many reviews highlight that the quests often feel more like tutorials than engaging missions, and there are issues with quest markers and objectives not being well-optimized. However, there is optimism for future updates to enhance the narrative and gameplay experience.
“The overall story is interesting and fun.”
“The backstory is good, leading you right into the quest line from the beginning.”
“I'm impressed with the story quests as most of the early access survival games I've played either only have snippets here and there or are still in development.”
“At the same time there's a storyline to follow, but honestly it's not very interesting at all, and even if I've been reading the new parts of the storyline, I can't really remember what it's all about.”
“There is no story; unlike what was shown in the screenshots, there are no documents to read, just pointless survival. Enemies are scarce, and there's no point to loot.”
“Objectives/quests are not optimized well; you don't really know what to do unless you fiddle in the quest section. Tutorials are mixed in with quests, and it just isn't streamlined yet.”

Many users praise the visuals as "good" or "impressive," highlighting smooth performance and detailed environments, while some note that the world can feel empty or barren. Despite some criticisms regarding specific elements like AI and animations, the graphics are considered a strong point, especially for an early access title.
“Graphics are really good.”
“The graphics are impressive, even the weary atmosphere keeps me on edge.”
“Graphics and performance wise, they are really good for a game that just got released.”
“Graphics are fairly cut and dry; seems cut and paste from games like Myst.”
“Graphics are not to be desired when it comes to the infected, and the AI is seemingly quite lacking.”
“I have a monster of a PC, and there are other EA games with less intense graphics, yet my RTX 2080 can sometimes get taxed.”

Overall, the gameplay is characterized by simple and clear mechanics that are easy to grasp, making it accessible for players. While the experience is generally smooth and enjoyable, some users noted issues such as occasional bugs and a lack of challenge, suggesting that the game could benefit from more depth and difficulty options. Despite these flaws, many players appreciate the graphics and the potential for future improvements as the game evolves in early access.
“The gameplay is solid and the gunplay I like it too much, but as an early access game, I see some flaws like the enemies looking too dumb sometimes.”
“The environment is stunning, the gameplay is pretty damn smooth, and it's a fun world to explore.”
“I loved the shooting/fighting mechanics and traveling.”
“After an hour of play, I had all the weapons, loads of food, water, 3 stocked inventory chests, 5 jerry cans of fuel, and ammo after just raiding 6/7 places. I couldn’t see where else the game could possibly evolve to; it’s just the same thing. Not to mention, you can just run the zombies over in your truck. This game would be great if it was way harder. There's no need to even protect your loot as nothing attacks your base, and your base area already has crafting tables, storage boxes, weapon and ammo benches. This should all be earned and crafted/leveled up. You can’t build really either. I wish this game had easy to extreme gameplay choices. If you die in this game, go play Mario.”
“Gameplay 0/10”
“Has a great concept and graphics are more than acceptable, but the ambience, animations, and gameplay are currently barely bearable.”

“The world does feel a little cold and boring, but it has a good atmosphere when you play.”
“One or two things I forgot to mention: sometimes when you're in buildings, there is no sound, not even footsteps. It's not really a massive problem, but I would like a little more atmosphere.”
“The overall atmosphere feels flat and uninspired, lacking the immersive qualities that make a game truly engaging.”
“While the visuals are decent, the atmosphere is severely lacking; it feels empty and lifeless, which detracts from the overall experience.”

“Grinding feels tedious and repetitive, making it hard to stay engaged with the game.”
“The amount of time required to level up is excessive, leading to a frustrating experience.”
