  • gameplay
    10 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The gameplay is praised for its deep, meaningful interactions and intuitive yet challenging mechanics, offering a fun and engaging experience beyond typical card games. Unique features like the resonance mechanic add strategic depth, making combat thoughtful and satisfying. Overall, the gameplay is creative, well-designed, and keeps players invested throughout.

    • “The resonance mechanic was super interesting and added a lot of depth past just 'do max damage to the enemy' which I find a lot of card games boil down to.”
    • “The mechanics feel intuitive yet challenging (in a good way!).”
    • “All the decks and statuses interact meaningfully with each other, so the game has surprisingly deep mechanics even though all the underlying systems are quite simple.”
  • story
    4 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The story is well-received for its engaging and darker tone, complemented by charming pixel art and character designs. Players appreciate the solid narrative foundation and steady pacing, though some note the lack of a save function can be frustrating after failed battles. Overall, the story successfully maintains player interest and anticipation for future updates.

    • “From what I've played, I've ended my session just before the big boss-looking monster with the crystals, and I gotta say I love the story so far. The combat is nice; it took a little time to get the clash system down, but when I did it clicked into place. The only issue I have is if I fail a battle I start from the very start of the chapter again. A save function would be appreciated in a game like this. Yes, it only took me a few minutes to get back to where I was, but I feel for anyone who struggles and has to do fights multiple times because they're not grasping the combat. Other than the no saves in the game, it's good. The chapters are good for checkpoints, but not knowing when you're in a new chapter makes it hard to know when the game has progressed. That all said, good game; I look forward to more levels coming out in the future.”
    • “The cute pixel character designs add to the charm, while the character designs in dialogue convey the darker tone of the story.”
    • “Overall, Wastelanders has set up a great foundation for its gameplay and story, and I can't wait to overthink my combats more with the content Studio Lilac will release for their next update.”
