“One of the best games I've played in years of my life, great gameplay, creative defenses, multiple strategies to choose from, updates once in a while, responsive developers, unlike others that push the community aside, and a great community even though it is small, it's just perfect.”
“Versus Squad is one of those gems that you just find one day and wonder to yourself 'how did I not pick this up sooner?' The gameplay is fluid, the guns feel impactful, the game looks pretty decent graphically, there are 8 maps to choose from, all with vastly different visual aesthetics, making each playthrough feel different enough to avoid repetitiveness.”
“Engaging gameplay with pickups, power-ups, lots of weapons, and many enemy variations.”
“The gameplay is decent enough in its own right and different from Nation Red, but I find it to be a downgrade compared to the previous games.”
“Many of the same mechanics are still present but barely improved.”
“The aiming mechanics feel too frantic and precise, making for an extremely twitchy experience.”

The game's stability has received mixed reviews, with some users experiencing significant performance issues, such as low frame rates, despite having capable hardware. However, the developer is noted for their proactive support and commitment to resolving bugs, leading to improvements in performance after updates. Overall, while there are reports of bugs and a counter-intuitive UI, the developer's responsiveness helps mitigate some stability concerns.
“Getting all the achievements adds a lot of variety and challenge to your game, and has a developer that works hard to keep the game updated and bug-free.”
“When I first launched Versus Squad, I was dismayed to find the FPS stuck at 22 on my high-end gaming rig. Concerned it was my computer, I quickly launched a few other games and discovered they ran fine. I ran through the usual troubleshooting steps and had no success. I decided to throw a message to the forums and see what came of it. To my surprise, not three hours later, I received a response from Snowbrigade. After a small exchange, they added me to assist further. We worked through a couple of different potential fixes to no avail. Snowbrigade went above and beyond by contacting a few friends and working tirelessly to fix this issue. A little while later, I received a message from Snowbrigade telling me that they updated the game and to check if that fixed it. And lo and behold, 385 FPS in the menu, 280 in-game; it's a miracle! The issue was something related to XInput and has now been fixed.”
“Really buggy.”
“The UI is counter-intuitive and buggy.”

The humor in the game is highlighted as a key element, particularly in co-op or multiplayer modes, where players find it especially entertaining and enjoyable. Overall, the game is described as funny, making it a great choice for a fun night with friends, all while being affordable.
“If that all sounds like a funny way of saying 'recommended', well, the perky, power-up twin-stick gameplay is still pretty solid and fun.”
“The co-op or multiplayer mode is especially funny.”
“It's a very funny game to play with friends and pass the night playing video games.”

The music in the game is generally praised for its powerful and engaging quality, enhancing the overall experience, especially during combat and action sequences. However, some players found the menu music to be off-putting and distracting, detracting from their enjoyment while waiting in the lobby. Overall, the soundtrack contributes positively to the gameplay, but certain elements may not resonate with all players.
“A really fun game to play while listening to powerful music.”
“Amazing music that gets you into the zombie-slaying mood.”
“The menu music gave me a headache while waiting in the lobby for my friend to start the game. The combat was the most boring experience I've ever slogged through, and putting up defenses felt like a chore.”

Players find the grinding aspect of the game to be excessively tedious, with clunky controls and labor-intensive mechanics that detract from the experience. The increasing enemy health and reduced frequency of power-up drops contribute to a frustrating grind, while the lack of turret drops and the need for constant management of resources further exacerbate the issue. Overall, the grind feels laborious and detracts from enjoyment.
“I couldn't bring myself to spend much time with this game due to the clunky controls and tedious, labor-intensive work required to put items on the field.”
“Enemy health pools get tediously large much too early, power-ups seem to drop less frequently even with the luck perk, and everything is reskinned to be much more 'serious': the turbines have been turned into flares, the ghosts into little robot drones, etc. Turret drops don't appear to exist and the only turrets you can get require constant babysitting at the expense of a very paltry cash flow.”
“Some extremely grindy (and/or extremely high skill ceiling, I guess you could say in some cases) perks.”

The game offers significant replayability through its engaging zombie wave shooter mechanics, enhanced by base building and defensive elements. Players can enjoy varied experiences with global high score leaderboards, persistent progression, and the randomness of perk selection, encouraging different builds and playstyles with each session.
“It's a top-shelf zombie wave shooter, simple, effective, and with added base building and defensive elements that really add an amazing amount of replayability to an already addictive formula.”
“Each time you level up, you'd get to select from a handful of random perks. Because it's random, you'd usually go with a different build each time, which added great replayability and changed your style of play depending on the perks.”
“The replayability comes from global high score leaderboards and persistent player progression in the form of ranks.”
“After completing the game once, there’s little incentive to play again since the story doesn’t change.”
“The lack of varied gameplay mechanics makes replaying feel more like a chore than an enjoyable experience.”

The story aspect of the game is appreciated for its concept, but players feel it lacks depth, suggesting the inclusion of a campaign or missions would enhance the experience. While it features a mini-story mode with single-player levels, the overall narrative is considered limited, especially compared to more modern titles.
“It is an older game, lacking some of the features of versus squad, but it is still very fun and includes a little mini-story mode of single-player levels.”
“I like the idea, but there should be some sort of campaign or at least some missions to it.”
