Reviews
- The pixel art and sprite work are highly praised, creating a nostalgic and visually appealing representation of the Karate Kid universe.
- The game offers a fun retro beat 'em up experience with multiple characters, combo systems, and various modes including minigames, especially enjoyable in local co-op.
- Faithful references to the Karate Kid movies and Cobra Kai series provide fans with nostalgic moments and familiar story beats.
- Combat is often described as clunky, repetitive, and not very deep, with inconsistent hit detection and overly simplistic enemy AI.
- The story mode has weak, static cutscenes that are poorly designed and lack immersion, with some liberties taken that feel out of place to fans.
- The absence of online multiplayer and certain quality-of-life features, combined with a price point considered too high by many reviewers, detracts from the overall value.

23 mentions Positive Neutral NegativeThe story mode loosely follows the Karate Kid movie trilogy's major beats but is seen as underdeveloped, with storytelling delivered through brief static panels and minimal dialogue rather than immersive cutscenes. While some appreciate the nostalgic elements and character sprites, many find the narrative sparse, lacking depth, and occasionally unintentionally humorous. Overall, the story is considered a lightweight retelling that serves mainly as a backdrop for the beat-em-up gameplay rather than a fully engaging cinematic experience.
“Character sprites are expressive and distinct, helping to evoke each film's emotional beats, even if the storytelling is sparse.”
“The story also takes some liberties when it comes to plot details to fit the beat-em up gameplay, but all the major story beats are hit.”
“The story mode is good if you're a fan of the movies.”
“In terms of story, the game attempts to retell the narrative arcs of the original Karate Kid trilogy, but this element is underdeveloped.”
“Instead of fully voiced or animated cutscenes, story beats are delivered through brief static panels and minimal dialogue that feel more like placeholders than immersive storytelling.”
“Third - the 'cutscene' story segments have art that is so bad it will probably make you laugh out loud multiple times.”
Critic Reviews
The Karate Kid: Street Rumble Review
For those who enjoy the Karate Kid movies and Cobra Kai TV series, there’s fun to be had with this. It’s simple but fairly effective, looks really nice, and has a few minigames to break up the action. Its combat can be an enjoyable economy of building gauges and pounding out super attacks amidst tap combos - but it tends to simmer rather than cook. The boss battles (with mostly Johnny Lawrence) are a little too placid for our liking, although the set-ups are pretty cool, especially when you find yourself in familiar movie territory. On the whole, it's nice to rumble with hordes of high school bullies, but once it’s finished there’s not a great deal to encourage repeat plays except the local multiplayer. Wax on, wax off, it’s up to you.
