story
78 mentions Positive Neutral NegativeThe game's story is often described as serviceable but lacking depth, with many quests feeling like repetitive errands rather than engaging narratives. Players appreciate the vast amount of content and the freedom to tackle quests in any order, but some criticize the pacing and the overwhelming presence of other players, which can detract from the immersion. Overall, while the game offers a rich world and numerous side quests, the main storyline is seen as bland and not as compelling as previous Elder Scrolls titles.
“I'm level 42 and have yet to start the main quest line - that's how much content there is.”
“The main story flows very well and if you decide to buy this game I would recommend playing it as a single player.”
“There is always something interesting to do and many quests to undertake.”
“As far as story goes, I mostly just feel like I am running around doing errands for the characters of the story; I don't actually feel like I am part of the story like with previous Elder Scrolls titles.”
“The story is bland; it's an Elder Scrolls-based story.”
“I would take a pass unless you just like to grind out bland missions in a shallow story with watered down lore.”
The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited Review
Bethesda have taken the grandiose essence of The Elder Scrolls and diluted it into an MMORPG with some success, but there's still a way to go to fully realise that ambition.

Despite its sometimes obvious flaws, The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited provides a shocking amount of content for the asking price – even if the deciding factor is the fact that it's had its subscription fee scrubbed away. Accessible systems make it a brilliant MMO entry point for console owners who perhaps haven't dabbled in the genre before, while its fast-paced combat and addictive character development should keep most RPG fans happy. It doesn't have the flair or the polish of a heavyweight like Final Fantasy XIV Online: A Realm Reborn, but it's certainly worth trying if you're looking for seemingly never ending adventures on PS4 – with or without friends.
