The music in the game has received largely negative feedback, with many players finding it repetitive and uninspired, often consisting of a single looping track that detracts from the gameplay experience. While some appreciate the option to mute the in-game music and play their own, the overall sentiment is that the soundtrack fails to capture the energetic essence of Tetris, with many describing it as bland or even inappropriate for the game's atmosphere. Despite a few positive remarks about the soundtrack's catchiness, the consensus leans towards disappointment in the musical choices made for this iteration of Tetris.
“The soundtrack is great as well, although quite small...only two (and a half including the menu) songs??”
“The core of the Tetris is here, it plays great, visually looks great and the sound effects and soundtrack fit perfectly.”
“If I had to pick a downside, it would be that somehow they got the soundtrack in a Tetris game all wrong.”
“The music, although cadent, can feel a bit repetitive, as a given game mode tends to contain a sole, looping track.”
“I bought it thinking I'd get to listen to the amped up Russian Tetris song but instead I get this chill ambient nonsense.”
“The music is awful and sounds like an 80's horror film.”

“The gameplay is great as ever with quite a few options to satisfy all Tetris needs.”
“The gameplay was so smooth for me and I actually like the button layout that was given.”
“Too slow pace in the gameplay and it randomly crashes; the unnecessary video effects are also annoying as hell.”
“I'd like to give an opinion about actual gameplay, but I can't due to the constant crashes.”
“There are some unnecessary, annoying visual effects during gameplay that can't be completely turned off.”

The graphics of the game are described as a mixed bag, featuring a blend of appealing aesthetics and clear visuals, but marred by issues such as blurriness and poor resolution options. While some players appreciate the overall presentation and music, others criticize the use of shaders that hinder visibility and the lack of customization for Tetris piece skins. Overall, the game is seen as visually pleasant but suffers from technical shortcomings that detract from the experience.
“Perfectly playable, visuals and audio fit the game nicely.”
“Clear and not overly fancy visuals.”
“I like the aesthetics; it is probably one of the better looking versions of Tetris there is.”
“The graphics are blurry to my eyes.”
“While the game looks aesthetically pleasing, the use of shaders to glow the active tetrimino causes some difficulty in seeing where it actually is, added to that I had occasional headaches because of such.”
“The menu graphics are blurry; it looks like it was designed for console then just copied over to PC. Most of the multiplayer and achievement features are unintuitive, the game ignores about 20% of your inputs, and there is very little depth to building up your Tetris profile.”

The game's stability is widely criticized, with many users reporting numerous bugs and glitches, particularly in online modes. While some players with average PCs find it runs well, overall experiences are marred by issues such as freezing and poor support from Ubisoft.

The game's initial release suffered from significant optimization issues, resulting in frame drops and poor performance on PC. While some users report improvements in later updates, many still feel that the game remains a poorly optimized port from console, lacking the necessary polish and support. Overall, the optimization is viewed as a major drawback that detracts from the overall experience.
“Apparently the game was unoptimized and had tons of frame drops on its initial release, but they seem to have fixed that since it ran just fine on my ancient CPU.”
“There's absolutely no excuse for such horrible PC optimization.”
“The game is rather poorly optimized, and if some extra polish is given to the game, it would be worth a bit more to many other people who have bought this.”
“However, it feels rushed, lacks proper support from Ubisoft, seems to have been a low-priority money grab project, and it is clearly a lazy, unoptimized port from console to PC.”

The monetization strategy of the game has been widely criticized, with users feeling it resembles a cash grab and lacking effort, leading to disappointment in Ubisoft's offerings. Many reviewers suggest that there are better, free alternatives available, highlighting the game's poor management and excessive reliance on microtransactions. Overall, the sentiment is that players should avoid spending money on this title.
“Except everything is basically free and the microtransactions have been removed.”
“This game feels like a scam and a cash grab; do yourself a favor and don't buy this game. They barely put any effort into this, and it makes me not want to give money to another Ubisoft product from this day forward.”
“Unfortunately, this widely missed the mark, feeling as badly managed as the lesser titles like Tetris Worlds and the EA releases with microtransactions on PSP and various other platforms, missing several modes, etc.”
“The simple fact is that there are better alternatives in Tetris, like Tetris Friends, which is free with cheap microtransactions, for example.”

Tetris Ultimate provides you with Tetris on your Xbox One. That'll be enough to sell it to most people and the game works very well. The attempts at innovation on top of the base game are welcome for sure, but the package as a whole tends to feel a little bit bare-bones, despite the plethora of gameplay customisation options. This means that if you're one of the minority that didn't really get grabbed by the bug, then this will do little to change your mind. Tetris fiends should be prepared to be addicted all over again, though. Tetris Ultimate is decent, but if you've ready access to any other version of Tetris, then there's little reason for a purchase.
