  • Humorous and light-hearted story with a distinct comedic and parody style.
  • Simple, fun, and accessible twin-stick shooter gameplay with Twitch shooter elements and minor RPG mechanics.
  • Strong retro-inspired art direction and a catchy soundtrack that complement the game's silly tone.
  • Gameplay can feel repetitive and short, with limited weapon variety and shallow RPG elements.
  • Controls and aiming can be imprecise or slippery; lack of control rebinding and some tech issues like bugs and crashes.
  • Humor and writing are hit-or-miss, often juvenile or repetitive, which may not appeal to all players.
  • humor
    203 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's humor is characterized by slapstick, exaggerated, and playful wartime parody, with witty dialogues, silly animations, and a tongue-in-cheek tone reminiscent of British sitcoms and classic sketch comedy. While many praise its quirky, charming, and light-hearted humor that enhances its unique art style and gameplay, others find the comedy hit-or-miss, often labeling jokes as cheesy or excessive. Overall, humor is a defining but divisive aspect that fans of goofy, offbeat comedy and parody tend to appreciate most.

    • “Instead of grim battlefield realism, the game embraces slapstick humor, exaggerated enemies, and a sense of playful chaos, establishing early on that it’s meant to entertain rather than replicate historical trench warfare.”
    • “The way soldiers react when knocked out or grenaded; the little indicators that let you know something's wrong; the way your enemies react when you shoot them in the FPS minigames; and, even the dialogue, though not rich with laughter-bursting one-liners, does a great job at building up a tongue-in-cheek war series built in a world dominated by British humor and sitcom-like irony, akin to 'Dad's Army' or an early Monty Python or Carol Burnett sketch set in one of the world wars.”
    • “Humor is the game's defining trait, delivered through witty dialogues, funny character poses, hilarious animations, and a light-hearted, charming story that makes it a unique and entertaining experience.”
    • “And this translates into a game riddled with stupid, unfunny grandpa jokes.”
    • “If you took the stereotypical unfunny British stand-up comedian, mixed it with a ripoff of Cannon Fodder repeating the same level essentially over and over, and had said comedian attempt but fail to replicate Metal Slug-esque humor in video game form, you'd have this game.”
    • “Why do I have to put up with skipping those unfunny and lame conversations every time I want to buy items?”
  • story
    120 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The story is a light-hearted, humorous parody set in an alternate WWI-like war, featuring straightforward mission-based progression with comedic dialogue and silly scenarios. While some find it entertaining and sharply written, it remains shallow and predictable, focusing more on fun and tone than emotional depth or thematic complexity. The story length is relatively short, with enjoyable moments but occasional repetitiveness and minor bugs affecting mission flow.

    • “The story is good, it has funny moments and dramatic moments.”
    • “When it comes to the story, it is definitely simple, but the writing is super sharp. It knows it is silly and it just goes for it - it is a very straightforward story where you have to do a few quests, like disposing of enemies in a previously owned base or saving hostages from enemy forces, only to discover that there is a big, badder and meaner villain later down the line.”
    • “Get this game if you´re in for some good old shooting, backed up by a decent story and a very nice touch of humor along the way.”
    • “The story never deepens beyond its parody framing, so anyone looking for emotional resonance or thematic commentary will find little here.”
    • “Trash dialogs (annoying at shops) and irrelevant story.”
    • “Story: generic.”
  • gameplay
    114 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The gameplay is a fun, accessible twin-stick shooter with simple exploration, mission-based structure, and light RPG elements like leveling up and upgrades. While generally enjoyable and well-crafted with a retro charm and occasional unique twists like on-rail shooting segments, it can feel repetitive, occasionally clunky, and sometimes suffers from control and camera issues. Overall, it offers a satisfying, fast-paced experience for those seeking casual, humor-infused action rather than deep complexity or realism.

    • “The core gameplay revolves around twin-stick shooting, simple exploration, and a mission-based structure that gradually expands in scope.”
    • “For $0.50 I was surprised by the depth of the gameplay offered by Super Trench Attack, which offers fast-paced twitch shooter action and exploration, simple RPG elements, inventory management and weapon upgrading, with occasional shooting gallery segments.”
    • “What made me fall in love with the indie games scene many years ago is that you can find anything there, some stuff that is completely new, different or refreshing to play, stuff that you don't see every time, they take risks which is what the usual AAA games don't with their samey copy-pasted formulas that overstayed their welcome and fatigued me already. Recently I found this game in my library and while it is fairly short, taking along 2-3 hours to finish, I really liked it and those few hours I spent with it were continuous; the moment I started playing I kept playing in a single sit until I finished because of how fun it is. Super Trench Attack gives you a really cool action 2D shooting game with some few RPG elements and it also introduces some on-rail shooting segments—a cool mix. You may have a fairly limited arsenal but you fight your enemies in unique war-driven places, from soldiers, submarines, tanks, then collect items or get money to buy upgrades, better weapons, and such. The game also has a nice art style and is full of personality, and I found the gameplay to be really fun because I love action games. While I particularly didn't care much about the story, I had a blast with the gameplay. It's rare to see good mixes like this when it comes to the gameplay genre; the on-rail segments were a huge surprise, and I love being surprised when a game pulls something off that I never expected it to. Fully recommended.”
    • “The gameplay is also rather simple.”
    • “My only gripe with the gameplay is that there are sudden difficulty spikes because some enemies may be out of sight and you get shredded to bits before you can react.”
    • “- Majority of regular gameplay can get boring and stale quite fast.”
  • graphics
    85 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The graphics of the game feature a unique, retro-inspired pixel art style that complements its comedic and parodic tone, appealing especially to fans of indie shooters and nostalgic aesthetics. While some praise its charming, lively animations and fitting humor, others find the visuals simplistic, janky, or unrefined, with criticisms aimed at low-resolution graphics and occasional poor animation quality. Overall, the art style is a distinctive strength that enhances the game's personality, though it may not satisfy those seeking polished or modern visuals.

    • “The art style reinforces the game’s tone—this is not a bleak war story, but a parody of one.”
    • “The art style is amazing, the animations are fluid and precise.”
    • “Pretty much that's it for the gameplay, the graphics are pretty good looking in emulating the retro style without resorting to the low effort 8bit and 16bit style that often saturate the market these days.”
    • “Visuals are mediocre and remind me of speed doodling.”
    • “It's a sloppily-coded, poorly written game, with a filter applied over the top of the crappy graphics to make it look 'retro.'”
    • “Now the graphics... well, they look fine in screenshots, but when you see those janky low animations at work, they reveal what this game really is: yet another barely disguised flash game.”
  • music
    26 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The music in the game is generally praised for its upbeat, old-school, militaristic style that complements the goofy and humorous tone, creating a memorable and fitting atmosphere. However, several users note the soundtrack is limited in variety, with repetitive loops and only a handful of tracks, leaving many wishing for more musical diversity. Overall, the soundtrack stands out as a strong aesthetic element despite its repetitiveness.

    • “The soundtrack supports the goofy action with upbeat, militaristic tunes that never take themselves too seriously.”
    • “The game’s sound effects are serviceable but the real winner in the sound department is the soundtrack.”
    • “Lovely slapstick humour, neat art, fitting music and an altogether enjoyable ride.”
    • “The bad thing is that the music loops itself after 15-20 seconds and there aren't more than 7-8 soundtracks.”
    • “Could have used more soundtracks.”
    • “Didn’t like it for: music and only 2 types of guns.”
  • grinding
    5 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Grinding in this game is a mixed experience: while enemy progression feels rewarding without heavy grinding, many players find themselves needing to spend significant time farming gold or levels due to poor loot drops and challenging sections, leading to a grind-focused gameplay.

    • “Bad control schemes, no key rebinding, the game feels like a war of attrition with lots of grinding for money just to get another chance at a boss or section.”
    • “I spent more than an hour grinding for levels to increase my health enough to complete the final mission.”
    • “Loot drops are poor, forcing you to spend most of your playtime farming gold.”
  • stability
    5 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game suffers from multiple bugs and glitches, leading to sketchy controls and frustrating progress loss, which detracts from its overall polish. Despite its fun character, stability issues significantly impact the gameplay experience.

    • “The idea is pretty good, but the game is buggy, the controls are sketchy, and losing a boss battle is a real pain, as you lose any supplies you spent along with any progress you made on that particular boss.”
    • “The game is very buggy and cheaply done.”
    • “A little bit buggy and does not feel very polished, but it has a lot of character and is fun to play.”
  • replayability
    4 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game has limited replayability due to its short length and lack of features like new game plus, hard mode, or co-op play. Players note minimal variety in character options, resulting in little incentive to replay after completion.

    • “Weak replayability due to its short length and lacking new game plus or a challenging hard mode.”
    • “The only real complaint I have is that I can’t see it having much replay value. The game would be amazing if it included a co-op option and maybe a class system, as there is not a lot of variety in what you can do with your character at the moment.”
    • “I played it on the highest difficulty level and got 100% in 6 hours, and there is really no replay value at all.”
  • atmosphere
    3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game features a retro, World War I–based atmosphere that creates an immersive and historically grounded experience, appealing to players who enjoy atmospheric settings.

    • “Atmosphere based on World War 1.”
    • “Retro atmosphere.”
    • “Do you like atmospheric and immersive games?”
  • emotional
    1 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game offers minimal emotional depth, relying primarily on parody without providing meaningful emotional resonance or thematic exploration.
