Players appreciate the cute art style, smooth controls, and the absence of pay-to-win elements, which contribute to a fun and lighthearted atmosphere. The game features a variety of weapons and mechanics that encourage strategic play, making it enjoyable for both newcomers and veterans alike.
“The top-down 'Hotline Miami-like' composition combined with a variety of balanced shooting mechanics and features make the battles quick and engaging; the matches usually take no longer than around 8 minutes.”
“The gameplay is simple, yet does have its own complex way of playing, but still inviting to newer players.”
“The gameplay is fun and surprisingly well balanced.”
“The gameplay loop consists of collecting cosmetics and achieving a sense of accomplishment.”
“As a result, the gameplay seems to really stagnate, which does send a lot of players into boredom.”
“The game still suffers from unexplained mechanics, no tutorial (just quick tool tips), and new items that you have to guess the effectiveness of on the fly, or look up on the wiki to understand what they do.”

The graphics of "Super Animal Royale" are widely praised for their cute and charming art style, which features colorful, anthropomorphic animal characters and a whimsical atmosphere. Reviewers appreciate the game's simple yet effective visuals that enhance gameplay without being distracting, making it accessible even on lower-end PCs. Overall, the graphics contribute significantly to the game's appeal, creating a fun and engaging experience that keeps players coming back.
“The art style is cute, the atmosphere is welcoming and lighthearted, the gameplay is just simple enough that it's easy to pick up and run with but has just enough nuance to it to make it feel rewarding when you do start to get rolling.”
“The art style is really sets this game out above the rest with its beautiful map design and adorable cast of characters.”
“The graphics suit the game very well, and the gameplay is fairly balanced considering it is still early access, with lots of new content being added regularly.”
“And so many more people are now left unable to play due to not having 'recommended hardware specs.' The problem is the engine is so bad that even with recommended hardware specs, you will eventually crash due to memory leaks or graphical issues.”
“I don't recommend anyone play right now until developers get back on track and start working on the heart of the game instead of the looks.”
“The graphics make it very easy to run on just about any computer that doesn't belong to the 56k age, and at the same time are pretty enough to compel you to stay.”

The humor in this game is widely praised for its charming and whimsical nature, featuring cute animals engaged in absurdly violent scenarios, such as a deer in a maid costume wielding a shotgun. Players appreciate the lighthearted dialogue, clever puns, and the overall comedic atmosphere, which makes for a fun and casual battle royale experience. The game's quirky design and frequent updates contribute to its appeal, ensuring that players enjoy both the gameplay and the humorous moments that arise during matches.
“Funny animal hi-jinks in a fast-paced battle royale format - what's not to like?”
“The in-game dialogue is very charming and nice, and the setting of a theme park all about animals leads to a lot of funny jokes that can be found in the game's ever-updating environment.”
“The huge contrast between seeing adorable animals killing each other with guns is so funny.”

The monetization of the game has received mixed reviews, with some players appreciating the lack of intrusive microtransactions and the ability to earn cosmetics through gameplay, while others criticize the transition to a more cash grab model filled with overpriced items and battle passes. Many users express frustration over the introduction of microtransactions after initially enjoying a full experience without them, leading to concerns about fairness and accessibility for free-to-play players. Overall, while some find the monetization system fair and non-predatory, others feel it detracts from the game's original charm.
“I personally have no problem with these kinds of microtransactions, as they don't affect gameplay and you can earn some of the cosmetics through playing.”
“Cosmetics are easy to get, its monetization model feels very fair and one of the best in the market.”
“The monetization is extremely unintrusive and optional with literally hundreds of earn-able cosmetics in the free game.”
“A great example of taking a fun light-hearted game and then transitioning to a cash grab.”
“They finally release a big update in September 2020, and we find out the game is now owned by Modus, 'free to play,' meaning those who paid 15 dollars for a full experience with no microtransactions can go screw themselves, and of course, it's filled with microtransactions that cost absurd amounts of money for comparatively nothing.”
“The monetization, especially in the shop, seems to have little to no changes on how they operate, with each item being quite overpriced for what they are, and requiring you to wait for the whole item rotation to get the item you want.”

“The music is intoxicating, simple and gets stuck in your head.”
“The game has an adorable art style, and that adorableness is somehow reflected in the music, making it all round enjoyable to play.”
“The music, though there is very little of it, is also boppin.”
“Music I can't really say too much but it's pretty great if you go listen to the soundtrack even if 4 out of the 10 songs in the soundtrack are 3 min loops of the emotes; they are all really nice to listen to every once in a while.”
“Suggestions - user generated music (not sure how big the music files) which is streamed to other players while waiting for a match, perhaps the ability to play musical instruments like LOTR online so people could make music in groups.”

The game's story is described as having a light and somewhat superficial narrative, with lore that can be discovered through exploration rather than being central to the gameplay. While it offers a fun backstory and character interactions, it lacks depth compared to more story-driven titles like Destiny. Players appreciate the incorporation of missions that provide context and variety, but many feel the overall narrative experience is not the main focus of the game.
“The backstory to the game is fun and is subtly incorporated into the map.”
“It both gives you tremendous freedom to explore an astonishingly well-realized world and tells a story that’s gripping, thrilling, and darkly comic.”
“The world is set in a rundown safari park with many different biomes and areas, and a hidden lore about the place, signs of an interesting hidden backstory and the struggle between the super animal world forces and the rising opposition: the super animal super resistance.”
“The gameplay itself really doesn't have any story-related elements to it, but the backstory you can get from exploring the map is a fun bonus on top of the gameplay.”
“The game does have lore which is neat if you're interested in that, but it's not the most in-depth and deep story, so don't expect anything on the levels of something like Destiny.”
“The 'campaign' is a little buggy, but other than that, it's a 10/10.”

The grinding aspect of the game has received mixed feedback, with some players finding it tedious and slow, particularly when unlocking skins and animals. However, many appreciate the improvements made to the grinding system, such as the ability to progress through multiple battle passes without expiration and the use of "magnets" to expedite the process. Overall, while grinding can feel excessive at times, it is often described as enjoyable and rewarding, especially when playing with friends.
“The battle pass for this game is not too grindy, but they don't give you a lot of missions to work with to earn experience. However, the game allows you to keep earning progress up to 2 battle passes since they don't expire, which means you don't have to miss out on items. This is a really big plus, and I wish other games would also do this!”
“It wasn't as tedious as other battle royale types, as the rounds hardly last more than five minutes.”
“For the base-level 'skins,' you can use a resource called 'magnets' to much more quickly and reliably get exactly what you're aiming for, provided you put in the time, which, I must emphasize, is greatly reduced with 'magnets.' No grinding for days and days unless you want something very specific.”
“The biggest critique is the slow grinding.”
“It's fun for a little while but it just feels tedious grinding out game after game to get all the unlocks and collect DNA.”
“Since there is no currency in the game, everything must be unlocked by grinding missions and experience points, and some of these missions ask for a lot, so for some, that might be a turn off.”

Overall, players feel a strong sense of connection and joy, often describing it as one of the most pleasant gaming communities they've encountered.
“This is literally the most wholesome community I've ever been in. I can die to the same guy three different times and see him in fifteen different matches, but we're buddies; we sync our dances and compliment each other's skills.”
“Super Animal Royale is a game that combines some pretty standard systems of gaming that we’re all familiar with, but does it in a way that produces an experience that is different enough to be original, challenging enough to be satisfying, and cute enough to make me want to cry (particularly since they added the emus!).”
“The community surrounding Super Animal Royale is surprisingly wholesome for a game of this genre, and the devs are still pushing out all kinds of new content.”

The game's stability is a mixed bag; while many players praise its polished performance and smooth gameplay on various systems, significant issues persist, including frequent crashes, bugs, and unbalanced mechanics. “The game is very polished and it runs great.”
“The art is adorable, the gameplay is lightning fast and super fun, and it runs great on basically every computer I've played it on.”
“It runs great in Proton/Steam Play, so despite there being no native client, you can absolutely give this a go.”
“Over 50% of matches end in freezes or hangups followed by a disconnect or a complete game crash.”
“Fun game when it worked, seems to have just ceased to open now after all troubleshooting procedures; I have no fix.”
“This means that even if just one of your friends doesn't have the full version, you all have to leave your Steam lobby and create a new Discord lobby and invite your friend that way... which is buggy.”

“This game is well-produced, runs smoothly, has very little lag, and it's super cute.”
“This engine is hugely unoptimized for the scale of the project this developer is trying to pull off.”
“Frequent dips in online performance; the arena can feel very empty as players die off quickly.”
“Milestones (and their unlockables) are pretty much only based on how much you play the game, making achievements more reflective of how much time you put in rather than based on difficult performance-based achievements.”

“But it definitely has replay value with the collectibles you earn from playing the game and the different types of DNA for animals you can play as if you're into that kind of thing in a game.”
“Yuge map to explore and endless replayability.”
“Constantly updated with new content which increases replayability.”

The concept of Super Animal Royale is very now – it draws on all the familiarities of modern mainstream gaming. In a way, then, you could say it’s cutting-edge. In another way, though, it’s all just very familiar, to the point that it’s strangely unremarkable. No individual aspect of it stands out, but it does form an endearing whole. It feels cool to play (when there’s no grievous lag), the map is compelling and the battle royale formula is as much of a buzz as ever. The monetisation model is not in-your-face and the player base is certainly there. It’s free, it’s under a gigabyte, it’s fast, and it’s a good laugh. Why not download it?
