Rune Factory 4 is a farming-meets-adventure game where players can choose to be a male or female hero and pursue romantic relationships with characters of any gender. As the prince or princess, players can protect the town from invaders, grow their own crops, and explore dungeons with a variety of weapons and magic. Accompanying characters and monsters can also join the player in battles against dangerous foes.
