  • Unique and immersive space sim with a strong modem-punk retro aesthetic.
  • Deep ship system management and repair mechanics akin to submarine simulators.
  • Engaging world-building, flexible play styles including trading, bounty hunting, and smuggling.
  • Often unstable with frequent crashes and bugs disrupting gameplay.
  • Game feels unfinished and was abandoned by developers; lacks content and polish.
  • User interface and controls are clunky, unintuitive and sometimes frustrating.
  • story
    140 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The story is generally praised for its interesting world-building, engaging side quests, and a compelling blend of space sim and mystery elements, with a tone that evokes submarine stealth and retro mod-punk vibes. However, the narrative delivery is often hampered by frequent bugs, crashes, and repetitive, grind-heavy mission design, leading to frustration and sometimes broken or incomplete questlines. While the story is open-ended and atmospheric, many players find it lacking polish and depth, with some noting a meta experience of struggling with the interface and gameplay to access the narrative.

    • “One of the pinnacles of the "spaceships are submarines" genre, combined with the allure of Privateer, and some giant truck simulator, and a good plot with some mysteries.”
    • “The gameplay feels like being inside a cold war submarine (in space), the action is slow paced yet really intense, the extensive storylines are really good and diverse that some of them continue to resonate in my mind.”
    • “If you like the idea of something a little different, with an in-depth story played out in dialogue with random folk you'll meet on space stations, of hiding in nebulae while torpedoes hunt you down, pinging steadily against your hull as you frantically decide what more you can turn off in hopes it will be enough to remain unseen, of buying a new main engine for a knockdown price and then retrofitting top-of-the-line components into it for a slight increase in main thrust... this is the game you need, and you need it yesterday.”
    • “The scenarios are sorta fun (and the proper way to learn the game) but the main story is a grand mess, with only the barest of hands on tutorial and an atrocious early game grind.”
    • “Game abandoned, story not finished.”
    • “The story and characters are dull and generic, you get paid nothing, some quests seem literally impossible, the graphics are an eyesore, and there doesn't even seem to be a reason to upgrade to a new ship (you can pay a ton of money to get a ship that goes 0.1 gm/s faster?).”
  • gameplay
    93 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The gameplay is characterized by slow-paced, intricate mechanics reminiscent of submarine simulators and classic space trading games, focusing on stealth, ship subsystem management, and trading in an open-world setting. While it offers a deep, atmospheric, and original experience with satisfying repair and combat elements, many players find it hampered by bugs, lack of polish, limited content, and a steep learning curve, making it rewarding primarily for those patient enough to explore its complex systems. Overall, the gameplay loop is solid but repetitive and niche, appealing most to fans of retro, methodical space sims rather than those seeking fast-paced action or polished AAA titles.

    • “There is some good gameplay here, at least early in the story mode when you get to fly around completing contracts, trading goods and carrying passengers while exploring a new and unfamiliar universe.”
    • “Gameplay revolves around managing ship subsystems and emission levels to keep your stealth and evade your enemies or ambush them.”
    • “The general gameplay engine is very much a space sim a la Elite where you can trade (illicitly or otherwise), hunt pirates, spy on targets, etc. The game is rich with systems, particularly when it comes to your ship itself.”
    • “Because the technical implementation, sadly, is a dog's breakfast, very low quality, from the presentation down to the choice of game engine, this is a flop, and it saddens me to see so much effort on solid game design and mechanics wasted because the rest of the game was phoned in.”
    • “The game is very badly optimised, with low framerates and janky gameplay even on a high end rig.”
    • “The game is still filled with bugs, many of which ruin gameplay and are massively frustrating.”
  • graphics
    87 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The graphics of the game are distinctly retro, embracing a low-resolution, "modempunk" aesthetic that evokes early PC and DOS-era visuals. While some players find this style charming and immersive, enhancing the game's nostalgic and imaginative appeal, others perceive it as low-effort or poorly executed, with noted graphical glitches and simplistic design. Overall, the graphics are functional and fitting for the game's atmosphere, but may not satisfy those expecting modern or high-fidelity visuals.

    • “These graphics ignite your imagination, the same way a book does.”
    • “Its unique approach to the idea of space trucking, ambience, retro-futuristic graphics, well-written lore and deep stealth mechanics - all contribute to an incredible experience.”
    • “Smartly designed space sim with good writing, worldbuilding & a great low-fi aesthetic.”
    • “This very poor quality visual style is a method that lazy devs often use to disguise their lack of talent or interest in doing the graphics properly and trying to disguise it under the name of 'art', or 'we made it look bad on purpose', which really isn't something gamers should have to put up with.”
    • “The retro art style could be charming but there are basic modelling errors like overlapping polygons and bad UV mapping.”
    • “Interesting core idea made horrible by pretentious 'retro' graphics (just crap in fact) and time wasters (typewriter effect for basic text in the UI).”
  • stability
    58 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game is widely criticized for being buggy, unstable, and unfinished, with frequent crashes and numerous glitches disrupting gameplay. Developer support appears to have been abandoned, leaving many issues unresolved and the experience feeling incomplete. While some recognize its potential and unique ideas, the current state is considered too unstable and unpolished for a reliable playthrough.

    • “This game, while enjoyable, is unfinished, unstable, and buggy as all get out.”
    • “Unfortunately, the devs have abandoned it without addressing numerous bugs, glitches, gremlins, and everything else that goes with an early release title (despite its alleged 1.0 status).”
    • “Update: game abandoned, crashy, game-save-deletingly-buggy garbage.”
  • music
    19 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's music is widely praised for its atmospheric and relaxing quality, enhancing the immersive space experience with a beautiful soundtrack and a functional onboard music player that even supports custom playlists. However, users report technical issues such as broken or glitched music players, sound loss, and occasional crashes affecting audio playback. Despite this, the music remains a standout feature that many find worth the purchase alone.

    • “And still... the writing, the music and the unique gameplay experience make this one of the most atmospheric games I've ever played.”
    • “While you will probably have to blindly navigate nebulae while trying to stay hidden from pesky pirates or quickly maneuver to evade torpedoes, there are many quiet, relaxing moments spent in the interior of your ship, listening to the beautiful soundtrack and the sounds of the engine and the terminals, or talking to your passengers about their lives and their perspective on the systems they inhabit.”
    • “The soundtrack in this game is incredible and is worth the purchase alone.”
    • “In two sessions of under four hours I've lost all sound, the music player has broken repeatedly, and I've had a crash to desktop that lost an entire multi-jump journey.”
    • “The audio would not work on one of my computers and in the 7 hours I've played so far the game has locked up once, the music player suddenly stopped working at one point and I crashed to the desktop soon after.”
    • “We're left with three ships, limited weapon systems, non-working economy, broken sound loops, glitched music players...”
  • atmosphere
    19 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game consistently receives praise for its immersive and richly detailed atmosphere, often described as one of the most atmospheric space sims with strong world-building, music, and unique gameplay elements. Players feel deeply engaged in the setting, especially when managing ship systems and exploring the expansive universe, despite some frustrations with technical issues and UI design. Overall, the atmosphere is a standout feature that elevates the experience and draws players back repeatedly.

    • “The atmosphere is top-notch and the ship systems are uniquely brilliant.”
    • “And this is all taking place within a huge, well-developed world that you'll completely lose yourself into because of how atmospheric and immersive it is.”
    • “Besides the combat, the game does a great job at atmosphere and making you feel like a badass space pilot/engineer in a modern-punk universe.”
    • “It can be slow at times, but overall the style, atmosphere (or lack thereof), and the quest lines and action truly make this game shine in my eyes.”
    • “Good writing and world-building add extra pressure to an already soupy atmosphere.”
    • “I've tried space sim after space sim, trying to find one that recaptured the atmosphere of universe, and coming up empty every time.”
  • grinding
    12 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Grinding in the game is widely seen as tedious, repetitive, and sometimes frustrating, with players often needing to repeat similar missions to afford upgrades. The gameplay is described as slow and buggy, detracting from the otherwise engaging story and exploration elements. Improved interface navigation and reducing grind would significantly enhance the experience.

    • “I thought this would be a fun stress-free little game to play from time to time, but grinding is the game's middle name, and tedious is its first.”
    • “I don't like comparing games to other games, but this one suffers from the typical grindiness of space simulators, forcing you to repeat the same 'milkrun' missions to afford desired ship upgrades.”
    • “The vast majority of my playtime was spent enjoying the story, but in the end, the game felt like a book where instead of just turning the page, I had to fight through tedious and often-buggy gameplay.”
  • optimization
    5 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game offers deep customization and complex system tweaking, allowing players to optimize machines with various components, but suffers from poor overall optimization and performance issues, particularly due to Unity engine limitations.

    • “Lots of systems to learn, lots of tweaking of your machines with components from different companies (each company focuses on cost, efficiency, high performance, emissions, or durability).”
    • “You can customize within a module, installing different parts to a solar panel, for example, to tweak your ship's power usage, performance, or observability.”
    • “- Poorly optimized”
    • “- Unity (garbage performance)”
  • replayability
    3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Replayability in the game is limited due to repetitive area farming and tasks becoming stale after completion, compounded by unresolved glitches and a restrictive game design that doesn't allow players to pause ongoing events. While the dynamic cluster politics add some replay interest, lack of mod support and usability issues, like poor resolution settings and an unskippable tutorial, hinder long-term engagement.

    • “It's easy to end up missing something really interesting in one part of the cluster while you were running jobs elsewhere. Sure, this adds replayability, but things do happen without you, and it does not let you put the cluster's politics on hold.”
    • “Once you complete tasks in an area, the area becomes farmed and you more or less have to leave, which impacts replayability.”
    • “If this game were made moddable such that new stations and maps could be added, it would greatly enhance replayability.”
    • “Unfortunately, control is a bit difficult, and there were some economic elements, such as glitches buying and selling items, and some issues with replayability in which once you complete tasks in an area, the area becomes farmed and you more or less have to leave.”
    • “It's easy to end up missing something really interesting in one neck of the cluster while you were running jobs elsewhere; sure, this adds replayability, but things do happen without you, and it does not let you put the cluster's politics on hold.”
    • “If this game were made moddable such that new stations and maps could be added, the config changed to a more reasonable resolution so that the game didn't start for most people where they can't even see any interactable elements (you see what looks like a door if your screen has a higher resolution than the tiny starting resolution, and you can't click anything), and the starting 'tutorial' was made skippable since it doesn't detect the change conditions most times, then this game would be much more playable.”
  • monetization
    2 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Users criticize the game's monetization as overly focused on profit, describing it as a cash grab, especially since it appears abandoned by the developers, diminishing its potential.

    • “As others have said, the game has a significant amount of potential but has been utterly abandoned by the developers and is a glorified cash grab.”
    • “Unfortunately, it is now a cash grab and abandoned.”
  • humor
    1 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The humor is well-received, featuring a fun story and amusing characters that enhance the overall experience alongside challenging and engaging gameplay.

  • emotional
    1 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The emotional experience is deeply immersive, driven by thoughtful audio design, innovative gameplay-story integration, and skillful pacing within a richly crafted space sci-fi/fantasy setting, distinguishing it from typical space sandbox games.

    • “A combination of careful audio design, creative gameplay-story interaction, emotional pacing, and the best space sci-fi/fantasy setting I've ever seen come together to create a deep, permeating aesthetic so horribly lost in the plethora of terrible space sandboxes.”
