MX vs. ATV Supercross Encore

MX vs. ATV Supercross Encore is a bad remaster. There's a ton of content to be found here, but the unreliable physics, iffy controls, and immensely erratic framerate ruin what could otherwise have been a decent budget title. Sadly, those looking for their MX vs. ATV fix are much better off waiting for Rainbow Studios to develop a new instalment in this series specifically for the PS4.

    177 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The graphics of the game have received overwhelmingly negative feedback, with many users describing them as outdated, resembling early 2000s titles, and lacking in detail. Players have criticized the absence of in-game graphic options, leading to poor performance and visual quality, even on high-end PCs. While some noted slight improvements in certain areas, the overall consensus is that the graphics are subpar and in need of significant optimization and enhancement.

    • “Graphics are nice, the tracks are really well built, the game runs amazing (on both my computer with a GTX 1080, and my friend's computer with a 1050), the multiplayer is pretty good when there are people playing, the connection is pretty solid, and you can play with a manual transmission!”
    • “I logged back in to give it another go after the patch and I noticed immediately the graphic improvements on the bikes, rider, and tracks.”
    • “Its graphics are very improved from the last MX game on PC, Reflex.”
    • “This is a straight up port from Xbox One to PC, no in-game graphic options menu. It's a crap-looking console game and a cheap port.”
    • “I mean the graphics resemble the early 2000s, the physics are utterly ridiculous, the first-person camera view is garbage, and overall the controls are a nightmare.”
    • “The quality of the graphics is absolutely unacceptable in this day and age.”
  • optimization
    70 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's optimization has been widely criticized, with many users reporting severe performance issues regardless of their hardware settings. While some players have experienced improvements after recent updates, the overall consensus is that the game feels poorly optimized, resembling a dated console port with inadequate graphics and gameplay mechanics. Many reviewers express hope for future patches to address these significant optimization concerns.

    • “After the recent performance update, I average about 80 fps.”
    • “Besides the optimization issues, the game is feeling a lot better since the last update; the ground is no longer ice, and your bike gets traction.”
    • “Does it need the graphics optimized? Sure, but I still think it's a great game with better physics than the early access version.”
    • “I had faith in Nordic Games to deliver a better product than Reflex and Alive, but they managed to release what feels like a poorly optimized, half-baked copy of MX vs ATV Unleashed with the shoddiest 'rider control' mechanics ever imagined.”
    • “There are no features in play for PC, no graphics settings aside from resolution, and the optimization is worse than piss poor; it's non-existent.”
    • “It needs to be optimized though; I can play GTA V on max settings, but this game doesn't even have as good of graphics and even with the textures turned down, it still plays like it's in slow motion.”
  • gameplay
    42 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Gameplay reviews are mixed, with many players criticizing the mechanics as poorly optimized and buggy, particularly on Xbox, while also noting a lack of online competition on PC. Some users find the gameplay fun and addictive when it runs smoothly, appreciating the arcade-style approach and nuanced physics, but others feel it lacks polish and is a disappointing iteration of previous titles in the series. Overall, the game seems to require significant improvement in optimization and tutorial clarity to enhance the player experience.

    • “When running smooth, the gameplay is very fun and the online multiplayer racing is very addictive.”
    • “The gameplay is more on the arcade side, which really doesn't bother me; this isn't a new installment in the series, it's just Alive-Supercross standalone.”
    • “So far in the game, the physics are solid and the gameplay is easy if you have played Reflex/Alive, etc. I can't wait to see how this game evolves.”
    • “Refund in 3..2..1 worst jogability ever, rude game, need more optimization and better gameplay, hard to play, bike jumping like a horse!!”
    • “The game looks good graphically but the actual gameplay is terrible and not playable; buy MX vs ATV Reflex.”
    • “I had faith in Nordic Games to deliver a better product than Reflex and Alive, but they managed to release what feels like a poorly optimized, half-baked copy of MX vs ATV Unleashed with the shoddiest 'rider control' mechanics ever imagined.”

    • “But I did hear some of the old Reflex songs and I was really excited to hear those again because they are amazing.”
    • “I was incredibly disappointed... in fact, my favorite part of the game so far has been recreating the original soundtrack to listen to while playing.”
