  • Minimalist and abstract art style combined with a relaxing, fitting soundtrack creates a distinctive atmosphere.
  • The puzzles are well designed, offering a good challenge without being overly frustrating, with a satisfying progression of new mechanics.
  • Short gameplay length with limited replayability, considered overpriced at full price by many reviewers.
  • Lack of tutorials and unclear or inconsistent puzzle rules can lead to confusion and reliance on trial-and-error.
  • Controls, especially aiming mechanics on controllers, can be frustrating and imprecise, impacting the experience.
  • gameplay
    67 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The gameplay of this puzzle platformer is centered on progressively introducing new and innovative mechanics with each level, keeping puzzles fresh and challenging while requiring players to think creatively and adapt. While many praise its clever design, smooth controls, and evolving difficulty, some find it repetitive, frustrating due to unclear mechanics, or lacking depth and narrative connection. Overall, the gameplay is distinctive and engaging for those who appreciate experimental puzzle-solving, though it may feel short or uneven to others.

    • “The puzzles get more complex stage after stage, as there's always a new mechanic introduced as the game progresses.”
    • “Each level in the game introduces a new mechanic or twist on a previous one. The mechanic twists help to keep the puzzle-solving constantly evolving.”
    • “Gameplay is fun & smooth, puzzles can be challenging and are unique.”
    • “It can hook you at first due to its laidback approach but the lack of substance and the downright nagging core button mapping and gameplay oriented at messing with the player for entertainment value gets old quick.”
    • “This is a solid game but giving it a thumbs down as a missed opportunity, and one in which a few too many of the puzzles had me guessing at how the mechanics had changed from puzzle to puzzle, rather than puzzling over how to solve.”
    • “However, the last 2 or so levels seemed to abandon the 'infographics' theme and it quickly became 'try everything you can think of until something works.' I think this is because once they ran out of ideas for how to use bar graphs and movement together, they started adding mechanics such as shooting and place/swapping that didn't work well with 'input morphing,' so instead of capitalizing on the promising early-game, the last few levels turned into a very standard platformer that I just kind of slogged through.”
  • graphics
    60 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Metrico+ features a minimalist, abstract art style centered on infographics and simple geometric shapes, offering a unique and sometimes striking visual experience that stands out from typical retro pixel games. While its graphics are praised for being clean, distinctive, and well-integrated with the gameplay and soundscape, some find them occasionally bland or inconsistent, especially in later levels where the thematic design weakens. Overall, the graphics effectively support the game's experimental puzzle platformer nature, though they may not appeal to those expecting high-end visuals.

    • “Really unique platformer with cool art style and music.”
    • “Great puzzle game with a gorgeous art style that is worth its money!”
    • “The aesthetics of Metrico+ are amazing and grow from looking like a business PowerPoint presentation to a surrealistic landscape and more.”
    • “The art style is very clean, but it's nothing new and really comes across as quite bland, just like the rest of the game.”
    • “Graphically the game is mediocre, which while it all works and fits has some weird inconsistencies regarding visualization especially in later levels.”
  • story
    34 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The story in the game is minimal, abstract, and often unclear, with many players finding it either incomprehensible or largely absent. While some appreciate the subtle, wordless narrative elements and thematic hints, most agree the story is not a strong or engaging aspect and serves primarily as a backdrop to the puzzle gameplay.

    • “There's also an emotional story, told through some simple animations and with no words.”
    • “The game hints at a plot and uses it to give a sense of progress without seeming too pretentious.”
    • “The constantly-shifting background is hypnotic and the minimal story that is told (while it barely qualifies as a story) is certainly very intriguing.”
    • “Before I get into the game proper, I'll hand wave the story because that's precisely how the game handles it.”
    • “The game also has a bit of a background "storyline" between puzzles, but its ultra-minimalistic style makes it an incomprehensible mess and the game would be better if it was absent (due to the way it tries to be artsy right when you're likely to be frustrated at a particularly annoying puzzle).”
    • “As such, I have to conclude that the story (even though it doesn't use words) is either needlessly convoluted, doesn't make sense, or even misunderstood by the developers to begin with.”
  • music
    33 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The music in the game is generally praised for its mellow, synth-driven, and ambient qualities that complement the minimalist art style and create a relaxing, futuristic atmosphere. While some find it subtle and perfectly fitting, a few players consider it repetitive or unpleasant, even describing it as noise. Overall, the soundtrack is a standout aspect that enhances the immersive and unique puzzle-platformer experience.

    • “The game's looks, music and sound design create an incredible futuristic atmosphere; it is like a mix of so many things and the end result is a beautiful and unique game.”
    • “No other music could have suited metrico+ better, as the tastefully sparse soundtrack mirrors the postminimalist landscapes.”
    • “The puzzles are good but what makes this game stand out is really the amazing blend of music and minimal art.”
    • “The music isn't really pleasant to the ears and the achievements are hard to get.”
    • “Very short, feels unfinished, terrible music and sounds.”
    • “The music is awful, might as well just leave it silent.”
  • replayability
    9 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game offers limited replayability due to its short length and lack of story, with most replay value tied to achievements involving speedruns and collectibles. However, some players find it enjoyable to revisit after a break, as recalling level layouts adds challenge. Overall, while initial playthrough is entertaining, the game's replay potential is fairly minimal.

    • “This game offers some replayability if you take a longer break from it because you forget the layout of the levels and have to think yourself into it from the start.”
    • “Not a lot of replayability, but the initial playthrough should net you some pretty good enjoyment.”
    • “Short game, no story, no replayability, but some amazing puzzles.”
    • “A little under 4 hours of gameplay with no replayability.”
    • “Only replay value is getting all of the achievements, which are all about speedrun and collectibles.”
  • atmosphere
    5 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game delivers a distinctive and immersive atmosphere through its innovative art, music, and sound design, creating a beautiful and futuristic setting that sets it apart from typical puzzle platformers. Players often find themselves captivated by the unique mood, which enhances the overall experience beyond just the gameplay.

    • “The game's visuals, music, and sound design create an incredible futuristic atmosphere, blending many elements to produce a beautiful and unique experience.”
    • “This is a really unique atmospheric puzzle platformer.”
    • “I approached the game as a mathy puzzle, but soon the atmosphere and feel of the game consumed me.”
  • grinding
    3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Grinding in the game is generally considered tedious but manageable, as the introduction of new mechanics in each world helps keep the experience fresh and prevents prolonged monotony.

    • “Maybe it would get tedious if it went on for a long time at a flat level of difficulty, but so far that hasn't happened yet for me.”
    • “It's just tedious.”
  • emotional
    3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game evokes positive emotional responses through satisfying "eureka" moments and a heartfelt, wordless story told via simple animations. Its challenging puzzles not only engage players intellectually but also provide a rewarding and uplifting experience upon completion.

    • “It leads to those wholesome eureka moments when you discover the solution and tell yourself, 'It was so obvious!'”
    • “There's also an emotional story, told through some simple animations and with no words.”
    • “Each of the puzzles is interesting and on the complex side, and generally made me feel good when I solved them.”
