The story of "Little Kitty, Big City" is characterized as cute and simple, revolving around a cat's quest to return home after falling from a window. While the main storyline can be completed in about 2 to 4 hours, many players express a desire for more content, including additional quests and storylines, to enhance the overall experience. The game features charming characters and engaging side quests, but some reviewers note that the brevity of the main plot may not justify its price, suggesting that it feels more like a cozy exploration game than a deeply narrative-driven experience.
“The game has so much personality, the characters are all lively and unique, the quests are all cute and fun to pursue and finish, and for some reason I felt a bit emotional as I was climbing back to my human and was meeting all the friends I've made along the way again.”
“The story is cute and the NPCs are great.”
“It's a cute story with quite a few quirky side characters and some very wholesome side quests.”
“The only real negative is that I feel for 20 quid the game is short-lived and was surprised at how quickly I found myself at the end of the story, and while there are side quests and achievements, they do start to feel a bit same-y after a while.”
“The main quest can be completed in about 2-4 hours, and while that's not necessarily a bad thing, even completing the game's achievements only takes an additional ~2 hours, making for a very limited experience overall that is barely worth the $20 (CAD) I got it for, let alone the full-priced $32 (CAD) that it normally retails for.”
“I have been eagerly waiting for this game for years and finally got my hands on it yesterday and was thrilled, but I am left disappointed in how short it is; the main story was beaten in only 3 hours.”

The gameplay of "Little Kitty, Big City" is characterized by its charming and intuitive mechanics, allowing players to explore a whimsical open world as a cat. While the game offers a relaxing experience with engaging interactions and light puzzles, many players noted issues with clunky movement and jumping mechanics, leading to occasional frustration. Overall, the gameplay is enjoyable and accessible, though some found it lacking in depth and polish, resulting in a relatively short playtime that may not justify its price.
“The mechanics are fluid and intuitive, and you get used to hanging around the town as a kitten quickly, although the jumping can be unpredictable at times.”
“The gameplay is surprisingly fluid, with a charming atmosphere that makes exploration enjoyable.”
“What makes Little Kitty, Big City stand out is its warm, relaxing atmosphere and intuitive gameplay that appeals to players of all ages and skill levels.”
“The jumping mechanics can be frustrating, as it sometimes wrongly indicates you can't reach something.”
“Overall, it's a cute game that focused too much on the art so the actual gameplay can be frustrating; it's a platformer with subpar controls, animations, and physics.”
“The novelty of being a cat wears off fast when you’re fighting with the camera angles or awkward mechanics.”

The graphics of the game are widely praised for their charming, colorful, and cartoonish art style, which enhances the cozy and relaxing atmosphere. Players appreciate the adorable character designs, smooth animations, and the overall aesthetic that evokes a sense of whimsy and fun. While some minor graphical glitches and simplistic details are noted, the visuals are generally considered delightful and well-suited for a lighthearted gaming experience.
“The vibrant art style, featuring rich colors and playful animations, brings a storybook world to life, while the uplifting and soothing soundtrack adds an extra layer of charm and warmth to every moment.”
“The art style is stunning, with a hand-drawn aesthetic that makes every corner of the city feel alive.”
“This game is the cutest game on the market; the animation and art style are really good, the hats for the kitty are adorable, and there's a lot of fun things to do in this game.”
“The only thing I had an issue with is that the graphics/perception of the game did give me nausea which got better when I increased the field of view (but please note I am prone to motion sickness, usually I require a scopolamine patch when going on boats).”
“But besides that, one thing I've noticed, if you look in the teaser trailer there was going to be very high graphics and even fluff on him, in this the cat is completely smooth, and graphics are just how good the lighting is going to be, so no fluff on him or anything.”
“Just because the game has a cute art style and has a cat in it does not automatically dismiss the problems it has.”

“It is not funny after an hour.”

“It runs great on the Steam Deck and is that delightful level of no-pressure casual gaming I like after a hard day.”

“If the ancillary features (music, visuals, vibes) don't grip you, the fetch quest centric game design seems ennui-inducing.”

Overall, players find that while the game features a variety of achievements, some can be quite grindy and tedious, particularly those involving repetitive tasks like recycling cans and getting photographed. However, many reviewers appreciate the game's charm and engaging level design, noting that the grinding is often manageable and can be enjoyable in the context of the game's cozy atmosphere. Completionists may encounter some frustration, but the majority of the gameplay remains fun and rewarding.
“The fetch quests aren't too tedious; I love the characters you meet along the way.”
“Some of the achievements are a bit grindy, especially if you wait until you finish the main quest before doing them.”
“The most tedious achievement was the one about recycling cans, followed by the one about getting photographed; if it hadn't been for those two achievements, I think the playtime would have been closer to 5 hours total.”
“There are unfortunately some grindy achievements that fall under the 'do one thing x times,' which I personally find really annoying.”

Overall, the game's replayability is a mixed bag; while some players find enjoyment in exploring the world and collecting achievements, many agree that the short length and limited content significantly reduce its replay value. A few users appreciate the cozy experience and the potential for casual play, but most suggest that the game may not warrant a full-price purchase due to its brevity and lack of substantial replay incentives.
“This game is so replayable, I'm on the same save file, and I still haven't finished exploring the city!”
“The map is not huge but it's dense enough to be engaging and there's a lot to do; it has a ton of replay value, it's an excellent little sandbox game.”
“I think it's super awesome that there's some replayability with collecting all of the hats and encountering all of the other animals.”
“I don't know if it has a ton of replay value once you’ve seen and done everything, so I could certainly see some people preferring to wait for a sale before picking it up.”
“It took me 6 hours to finish the game and 100% it, so it is fairly short and there is no replayability unless you really just want to mess around as a cat again or you'd like to speedrun.”
“Sadly, I don't think the game has a lot of replay value.”

The optimization of the game has received mixed reviews, with some players experiencing significant performance issues, particularly on the Steam Deck, where stuttering and load problems were reported. While certain visual clunkiness is deemed forgivable due to the game's open-world design, many feel that further enhancements could improve the overall experience, especially for ultrawide monitors. Conversely, a few users noted solid performance and consistent framerates, indicating that experiences may vary widely depending on the platform and settings used.
“Framerates were consistent and performance was solid throughout.”
“Played on deck, and the performance and experience were utterly flawless without a single hitch.”
“But the cynical part of my brain suspects that these were performance optimization decisions that enable a (mostly) load-free open world.”
“This game was not optimized for ultrawide monitors, so some elements of the game, such as the UI and cutscenes, might not look correct.”
“How adorable and cute this game is and how charming the streets of Japan are, I cannot recommend the game with this kind of performance.”

Character development in the game is highlighted by its charming and adorable character designs, which are complemented by natural animations and engaging dialogue. Players appreciate the attention to detail in character interactions, such as unique responses to player actions, which enhance the overall experience and create a lighthearted atmosphere. The combination of visual style, sound design, and playful references contributes to a memorable and immersive character-driven narrative.
“You have the incredibly natural idle and movement and emote animations (and purrs, trills, meows!) of the kitty itself, the fantastic sound design as a whole, and a kickass jazzy soundtrack that is right up my alley. Beautiful visuals that carry their own unique style, adorable character designs, fun, lighthearted and engaging dialogue, and the myriad of references (the Quack Fighter 2 theme is still stuck in my head!)... not to mention the tons of really small things that add up to an even more impressive package, too - for example, if you wear your little hardhat, the construction worker dude doesn't throw you out of the construction site! Or, if you spin in place, the kitty gets dizzy and has to shake it off. Or how about when you nap on the printer, it prints out a kitty loaf where you can see your tummy and paws on the paper? Also, waking up and stretching after you load a save. The accuracy of the kitty's actions to a real cat cannot be overstated.”

“+2 extra points for the cutest character design I've seen in a while.”
“- Sweet and silly character designs/personalities.”

Overall, there is a desire for community engagement rather than exploitative monetization practices.
“The fact that this game isn't in early access makes me think it was rushed for a cash grab.”
“I don't mind this price because I'd rather support small games that listen and engage with their community, unlike AAA companies that just implement microtransactions for everything.”
