The gameplay in "Return to Dream Land" is a refined evolution of classic Kirby mechanics, featuring a well-implemented 2.5D design that allows players to navigate between foreground and background, enhancing puzzle-solving and platforming elements. The introduction of the Hypernova ability adds a fresh dynamic, while the linear structure of the story mode is balanced by engaging boss battles and a variety of mini-games that extend replayability. Overall, the game successfully combines traditional Kirby gameplay with innovative mechanics and stunning visuals, making for a fun and immersive experience.
“Return to Dream Land was the series' savior by taking the gameplay of Super Star/Ultra, refining it, and making it better in almost every way.”
“Overall, the new graphics are immersive and the switching between foreground and background platforms, which I initially thought might be gimmicky, turned out to be a great addition that requires more planning and strategy during gameplay.”
“The only things that bugged me in the game was the use of the 'motion control' in the 3DS itself; there are parts in the game where you have to physically rotate your 3DS to control something in the game. It just felt gimmicky to me and I personally felt it didn't really add anything to the gameplay.”
“The gameplay is more linear than the other titles I've played; Triple Deluxe has a relatively straightforward storyline and there is little freedom or variability with the new Supernova ability.”
“In that respect, there are not many surprises and due to the linear gameplay, most players will have the same experience as other players.”

The story of the game revolves around Kirby waking up to find his house in a mysterious kingdom called Floralia after a beanstalk sprouts overnight. While the plot is relatively simple and serves primarily as a backdrop for gameplay, it becomes more engaging towards the final world, with elements that connect to Kirby's history. Overall, the narrative is considered enjoyable but not the main focus, as players find more value in the gameplay and additional mini-games.
“The game's story is thus: late one night while everyone is asleep, a massive beanstalk sprouts under Kirby's house and King Dedede's castle; when Kirby wakes up the next morning, he sees his house isn't on the ground anymore, instead being high in the air in a mysterious kingdom called Floralia.”
“In the main story mode, the player controls Kirby as they gradually climb up the dreamstalk that materialized one day to try to free the kidnapped King Dedede.”
“It's not Nightmare in Dreamland, but the story of Triple Deluxe is fun, fast, and leaves room to re-explore stages for secrets after beating the level.”
“The rest of the game's plot does not really come in until the final world; Kirby games have never really been story-based, more using it as an excuse for gameplay, so the fairly barebones plot is fine.”
“The gameplay is more linear than the other titles I've played; Triple Deluxe has a relatively straightforward storyline and there is little freedom or variability with the new Supernova ability.”
“The story mode was pretty easy but the beauty of detail, colors, and 3D effects plus the other games offered make this game worthy of five stars.”

Overall, the visuals are considered a standout feature, contributing to a delightful and engaging gaming experience.
“The upgraded 3D graphics are a refreshing change after what began to feel like a monotonous 2D redesign of the past few Nintendo DS titles.”
“Overall, the new graphics are immersive, and the switching between foreground and background platforms, which I initially thought might be gimmicky, turned out to be a great addition that requires more planning and strategy during gameplay.”
“The visuals are fantastic and show the 3DS' ability to have the quality of older consoles, and was an extremely enjoyable transition from the previous games mentioned above (with 2D and less detailed graphics).”
“The graphics are bright and whimsical, but they don't compensate for the overall lack of depth in the game.”
“While the upgraded 3D graphics are a refreshing change, they still feel underwhelming compared to current standards.”
“The graphics are a lot better than the past Kirby games, but they still fall short of what players expect from modern titles.”

Players appreciate the nostalgic elements for NES fans, as well as the overall quality of the music, which contributes to the game's fun and engaging atmosphere. The combination of great music, colorful visuals, and entertaining gameplay makes for a delightful experience that encourages replayability.
“The soundtrack features remixes of some good songs from previous games, and keeps a few themes from Return to Dream Land, but all of the songs exclusive to this game are also great to listen to as well.”
“Charming classic Kirby game with fun and relaxing platforming action and with a really good soundtrack.”
“The music was orchestral and a pleasure to listen to (even when not playing!), and the enemies were fun and gave some quite enjoyable abilities.”
“There is combat, but the music, colorful stages, and cartoonish-ness of it all keep the game light-hearted and a blast to play.”
“Nes players will be delighted to hear the familiar, although slightly remixed, versions of some of the old theme music.”

Overall, "Kirby: Triple Deluxe" offers a solid level of replayability, driven by its engaging level design, enjoyable boss battles, and the charm of its central character. While some players find themselves revisiting stages for the sheer fun and music, others note that the replay value may not be extensive beyond the initial experience. Nonetheless, fans of Kirby and platformers are likely to appreciate the game's whimsical nature and replay potential.
“Great level design and boss battles, replay value, a fun but admittedly overpowered central ability, and our favorite pink puffball come together to form a great game.”
“I found plenty of replayability as well as pure joy in rediscovering the world of Kirby. If you enjoy Kirby, platformers, and general quirk, I think you'll enjoy Kirby: Triple Deluxe as well.”
“Replayability is more for the fun of it, but I've played at least one stage again for no reason other than the fun and music in it.”

The latest Kirby spinoff takes more than a few pages from Smash Bros.’ book- but it’s an alternative nevertheless

I’ve played quite a few Kirby games, and Kirby: Triple Deluxe may very well be my new favorite. It has perfected the platforming experience and has more content than even Kirby could fit into his fat mouth.
