  • Beautiful graphics and soundtrack with references to Norse folklore create an immersive atmosphere.
  • Simple, fun, and chill horror walking sim gameplay suitable for a quick, enjoyable experience.
  • Completely free to play, making it accessible to a wide audience and demonstrating developer dedication.
  • Short gameplay duration with limited content and few features, leading to a shallow overall experience.
  • Performance and optimization issues cause low frame rates and excessive GPU usage even on moderate systems.
  • Lack of customization options (graphics settings, controls, sensitivity) and presence of invisible walls hinder gameplay quality.
  • gameplay
    12 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The gameplay is generally well-balanced and straightforward, with polished core mechanics and a clear plot enhancing the experience. While not highly innovative or complex, it offers an enjoyable and immersive adventure with appropriately challenging monsters and decent graphics for its scope. Some users note it lacks depth or creativity, but its simplicity and atmosphere contribute positively to the overall gameplay.

    • “The mechanics are good, the monster difficulty is balanced fairly, the plot is easy to understand, and the graphics (for a Unity game) were very well done.”
    • “This little game has a great plot and excellent gameplay.”
    • “Jotunn - Day of Judgement is a genuinely and sincerely made first-person adventure clearly trying to riff off the success of Valheim... and the thing about Valheim that developers should at least try to understand is that it succeeded because of the gameplay, despite the fact that it looks bad, not because it looked bad.”
    • “Making a game that looks as bad as Valheim, but without the gameplay, well that's doomed to fail.”
    • “The very few features and gameplay elements you get are polished well enough, but not exactly to a shiny degree.”
  • graphics
    8 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The graphics are praised for their beautiful art style and Norse folklore references, offering a visually pleasing experience despite being a Unity game. However, lack of resolution and graphics customization options, along with high GPU demands affecting performance, are notable drawbacks. Overall, the aesthetics are well-liked but technical limitations impact the visual experience.

    • “Beautiful graphics and soundtrack, I was so pleased to see references to Norse folklore everywhere.”
    • “The mechanics are good, the monster difficulty is balanced fairly, the plot is easy to understand, and the graphics (for a Unity game) were very well done.”

    • “Although the game runs poorly and the gameplay isn't terribly creative, I still really like the aesthetic and ending/story.”
  • optimization

The game suffers from poor optimization, heavily taxing GPUs and causing performance issues despite attempts to cap FPS. This high hardware demand detracts from the experience and is a key area needing improvement.

    • “Bad optimization is a must fix, and maybe adding a bit more content, or at least adding another one or two levels to the game before you finish it.”
    • “Bad optimization and the game tries to max out all your GPU's power consumption; capping FPS doesn't really help much.”
  • music
    2 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's music, praised for its beautiful soundtrack with Norse folklore influences, is a standout aspect that enhances the overall experience. Despite some technical issues like frequent FPS drops, players generally appreciate the quality and thematic fit of the music.

    • “I liked the soundtrack.”
  • grinding
    1 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Grinding in the game is notably time-consuming and demanding, often requiring extensive repetition that can feel exhausting or overwhelming.

Users suggest improving replayability by removing invisible walls and creating a fully playable square map, as current obstacles like forest walls and hills limit exploration.
