"Ironcast" is a single-player turn-based strategy game, set in a Victorian era alternate history, where players control giant walking war machines. Combat is inspired by resource management, with a roguelite campaign mode that offers high replayability and permanent death, but persistent rewards. The game boasts excellent graphics, music, and atmospheric setting, though some bugs and grinding may be present.

- Engaging steampunk theme with beautiful art and sound design.
- Unique match-3 mechanics combined with strategic resource management.
- High replayability due to global unlocks and different pilot/mech combinations.
- Heavy reliance on RNG can lead to frustrating gameplay experiences.
- Campaign is relatively short, with only two bosses and limited mission variety.
- Difficulty spikes can make it feel unfair, especially in early missions.

The story of Ironcast is set in a steampunk world where players control mechs to defend Britain from a French invasion, but it is often described as simplistic and forgettable. While some players appreciate the engaging lore and charming setting, many criticize the narrative for being linear and lacking depth, with repetitive missions that diminish its impact. Overall, the story serves as a backdrop to the gameplay rather than a compelling element, leading to mixed feelings about its contribution to the overall experience.
“I had a lot of fun with this one, the story was engaging as well.”
“The game lore and idea are good: a sort of puzzle quest with mechs in the Victorian age - what could go wrong?”
“The story is more than elaborate and definitely more than can be expected of this genre.”
“The story is forgettable.”
“The missions and plot are meaningless fluff.”
“You'll stop caring about the story after the tutorial mission.”
Ironcast Review
Ironcast is the very definition of the saying "easy to pick up, difficult to master". The world, the characters and the art style are all top notch and really serve to draw you in, and once you are in, the compulsion to just have one more go is almost irresistible. The gameplay is balanced very nicely and we can't not recommend it, with only the freezes and crashes to really report as drawbacks. If you are looking for a puzzle game for your Xbox One, look no further than this. Picking it up would be a capital idea, what what?

Ironcast is a daring title with a concept many would be terrified to touch. The reward is huge, though, as this might be one of the strongest match puzzle games on the market at this point, with depth unlocked thanks to the choice of theme. Every piece of Ironcast works together in a wonderful resonance between style and gameplay, and creates a unique and entertaining experience that fans of the genre will not forget in the near future.
