  • The user interface is confusing and cluttered, making it difficult to navigate and manage resources effectively.
  • gameplay
    13 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The gameplay is generally enjoyable with a charming aesthetic and a straightforward loop that allows for multitasking, but it suffers from significant design flaws and balance issues. Players report frustration with the lack of intuitive upgrade mechanics, confusing battle systems, and repetitive tasks that detract from the overall experience. While the initial stages are engaging, the later game becomes tedious and unbalanced, leading to a disappointing progression.

    • “The gameplay loop is also fairly easy to pick up, and it's a game you can let play in the background while you watch a movie, read, or play another game.”
    • “The charming pixel art graphics are visually stunning, and everything from the sounds to the gameplay is enjoyable.”
    • “Quality game with beautiful graphics, good theme music, fun gameplay, and you can play while you work.”
    • “But after you literally unlock 2 other stages, they kind of get bored of that mechanic and decide the rest of the buildings from now on don't need that easy icon to click/know you are ready to upgrade. Now you gotta go find the item in a list through another menu to upgrade them just the same. Next, they got really bored and made the end game buildings 'just do multiple things,' and this works very poorly with the 'add more workers to speed things up' model as they don't affect anything other than the first option in a building producing, say, 5 things (mill or cooking place). Well, as far as I can tell anyway, the items have no usable tooltips that I can see other than telling you their name (ok, I got 'bottle,' what do I need to do with that?). There's a 'battle system' that consists of you fighting guys for literally 1 type of resource regardless of who you fight and a seemingly random battle map where 3 fights are fightable even though there's like 20 spots on the map (very confusing). Finally, there's the trade in this game; for some reason, there are two different spots to sell the same things, both of which reset every single time you reload the game, so you have to set the trades every time and it bugs out. Very often, I have trained 10 guys to sell at 130 each, for example, and somehow I end up with a.”
    • “Countless noticeable issues and the gameplay didn't hook me in.”
    • “But the broken gameplay is only solved by what seems a new bug: send in 2 for 200g workers to the barrack, and end up with only 1 recruit resulting in 130g...”
  • graphics
    9 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The graphics of the game are widely praised for their charming pixel art style, which enhances the overall aesthetic and complements the gameplay. Players appreciate the retro-like visuals and find them visually stunning, contributing to an enjoyable gaming experience. However, some users have reported minor bugs affecting gameplay, though these do not significantly detract from the graphics' appeal.

    • “This one shines with its charming pixel graphics, simplicity, and satisfying progression system.”
    • “Incremental town RPG combines peaceful visuals with strategic resource management.”
    • “The charming pixel art graphics are visually stunning, and everything from the sounds to the gameplay is enjoyable.”
    • “I've run into multiple bugs where, for example, the worker I sent to the sawmill didn't make any planks. I had to reset the workers for him to start working.”
    • “Another functionality issue, but this one's more of an aesthetic concern than a pain point.”
  • story
    6 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The story aspect of the game is criticized for its lack of depth and engagement, primarily revolving around a tedious quest board that focuses on reaching a million coins, which many players found frustrating and unfulfilling. Reviewers expressed disappointment in the absence of a compelling narrative, feeling that the quest structure detracted from their overall experience and limited player agency. The tutorial-like quests were seen as overly lengthy and restrictive, hindering exploration and creativity.

    • “There is no story, no nothing, all the places I built.”
    • “The inability to sell everything at once becomes an annoyance with a million-coin quest milestone you need to reach.”
    • “The tutorial walkthrough disguised as a quest is too long; let players decide or figure out what to do next after crafting the first building, or at least allow them to hide the quest.”
  • optimization
    4 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game currently suffers from significant optimization issues, particularly as players progress and build more, leading to noticeable slowdowns. Many users attribute these problems to the Unity engine, indicating that further optimization is necessary before it can be recommended. Overall, the game is still in need of substantial performance improvements, especially for early access.

    • “Optimization isn't done on it, so the game slows down in the later game.”
    • “I currently cannot recommend this in its current state; it still has a long way of optimization to go, if you ask me.”
    • “I have to assume this is some sort of optimization issue with the Unity game engine, because unlike a lot of idle games, this isn't running up large exponential numbers.”
    • “I'd say it still needs some optimization for early access, as the more you build, the more the game seems to struggle a bit while playing.”
  • grinding
    4 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Players find the grinding aspect of the game to be slow and tedious, with a significant portion of gameplay spent idling rather than engaging in meaningful activities. Additionally, there are frustrations related to progress loss, as players have reported losing substantial amounts of in-game currency without explanation, undermining the purpose of their grinding efforts.

    • “After 4.5 hours with about 25% activity and 75% idle, I found the game to be very slow and tedious.”
    • “Well, it's not an unlikable game... just a tedious game hurt by some pain points.”
    • “What's the point of grinding if all my progress will be deleted with no reason or way to fix it.”
  • music
    3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The music in the game is generally well-received, described as calm and fitting for a relaxing experience, complementing the beautiful graphics and enjoyable gameplay. However, some users express a desire for more variety in the sound options, suggesting that ambient sounds like rain could enhance the relaxing atmosphere.

    • “Quality game with beautiful graphics, good theme music, fun gameplay, and you can play while you work.”
    • “The music is very calm, perfect for relaxing and spending a few hours playing.”
    • “There's not much choice in the sound department either. I like what I see and what I hear, and the game is advertised as relaxing. I somewhat like the music, but I want to hear the rain too... that should help me relax, right?”
    • “The music feels repetitive and doesn't add much to the overall experience. I expected a more diverse soundtrack to enhance the atmosphere.”
    • “While the sound effects are decent, the music lacks variety and becomes monotonous after a short while, which detracts from the immersion.”
  • stability
    3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game is reported to have significant stability issues, including frequent bugs, lag, and freezing, especially after extended play sessions. While some users still find it enjoyable despite these problems, the overall experience is marred by a lack of content and frustrating technical performance.

    • “Very buggy, lags/freezes after leaving it open for a couple of hours.”
    • “It's very buggy, low content (literally 30 minutes of content and a wall to wait for a few hours deep with a 'you've done early access' in the end), and just plain boring.”
  • monetization
    1 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Reviewers appreciate the absence of microtransactions in the game, particularly given its low price point of under $5, which enhances the overall value and experience.

  • humor
    1 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Players find the humor in the game's minor bugs, noting that while they are present, they are not game-breaking and often add a lighthearted touch to the experience.

    • “None of the bugs I've encountered have been game-breaking, and to be honest, they've been a little bit funny.”
