Anthropologist Pamela Cavendish returns to her hometown, Mittenwald, to investigate a childhood tragedy where her friend Hans was kidnapped by a nightmarish figure. Doubting their own memories, Pamela and Hans' sister Agatha had accepted that Hans was dead, until Agatha receives a letter from Hans himself.
