Players appreciate the freedom to approach quests in various ways, though some express frustration with vague quest markers and the need for external guides to navigate the intricate storylines.

“The story, companions, dialogue, combat, and exploration are all superb.”
“The story is rich and the details are insane.”
“The story is nonsensical, characters are unremarkable, gameplay is slow and clunky, graphics are outdated, even for a 2017 game.”

“The story is effective and the original characters made for the player are quite interesting, their personal goals offer some nice development for them.”

“The graphics are stunning, showcasing a world that feels alive and brimming with beauty.”
“From lush landscapes to intricate character designs, the game's stunning aesthetics enhance the immersion and bring its fantastical world to life.”

“The art style is horrifically bad, combined with the generic story made the game not worth finishing.”

Many players appreciate the dynamic soundtrack, which allows for customization by selecting different instruments that influence the music during gameplay, creating a unique auditory experience. While some find the music occasionally repetitive, the overall consensus is that it significantly contributes to the game's emotional depth and enjoyment, making it one of the standout features of the title.
“The music is one of the best OSTs I’ve ever heard, truly.”
“Incredible soundtrack - Borislav Slavov had some huge shoes to fill, and he succeeded in both setting himself apart and maintaining the spirit and feel of the series.”
“The music is absolutely beautiful and epic, especially the companion themes.”
“The music to my taste was standard bland fantasy RPG fare.”
“The music is merely serviceable, it's sample based and transparently low budget but the compositions are overall fine with both inspired and uninspired points.”
“The soundtrack feels like listening to the same tune over and over again, which is annoying.”

The game boasts exceptionally high replayability, attributed to its diverse character options, multiple playstyles, and various dialogue choices that significantly impact the story. Players can explore different origin characters, each with unique storylines, and the extensive modding community further enhances the replay value. While some players note that the lengthy campaign may dilute the experience over multiple playthroughs, the overall consensus is that the game's depth and flexibility provide countless hours of engaging gameplay.
“Another big plus for the game is its replay value, thanks to different dialogue options and various playstyles and builds to experiment with. If that isn’t enough, there are also tons of mods to enhance the game even further.”
“The combat is one of a kind and very replayable, with so many class mods available.”
“The sheer variety of character combinations and builds available, coupled with the diverse paths and choices in the storyline, grants countless hours of potential replayability.”
“However, the story suffers from pacing issues, becoming hard to care about halfway through, and the lengthy campaign dilutes replayability.”
“Personally, it's not the kind of RPG that has significant replayability, but even without trying to 100% one can easily squeeze out 100-200 hours of playtime.”
“I tried picking it up with a friend at one point, but then I remembered how slow the first part of the game is and how little replayability value it has in my opinion.”

The humor in "Divinity: Original Sin 2" is widely praised for its cleverness and variety, blending dark comedy with whimsical elements that enhance the gameplay experience. Players enjoy the witty dialogue, especially in interactions with animals through the "Pet Pal" skill, which often leads to hilarious and unexpected outcomes. While some find the humor to be hit-or-miss, many agree that it adds a unique charm to the game, making it both engaging and entertaining, particularly in cooperative play with friends.
“I fell in love instantly with Larian’s clever humor and the freedom to experiment with abilities, mechanics, and the world itself.”
“Their interactions with each other and the world are a joy to witness, filled with humor, wit, and genuine emotional moments.”
“The writing is top-notch, with witty dialogue and clever humor that keeps players engaged throughout.”
“There's a meta-quality infused into the game that you can tell the developers put there to give it a lightheartedness and a 'don't take it so seriously, it's only a game' vibe, but the result is some fantasy-ruining fourth-wall breaks and some truly baffling choices by the developers; which are not funny, ironic, or clever, but rather confounding, annoying, time-wasting, unfair, utterly enigmatic, and poorly thought-through.”
“The flippant humor is not as pervasive as in the original, but it's still there, and it's still not funny.”
“The story is a sad, unfunny joke, with few redeeming characters that actually make you care about them; there are far too many characters that are interesting at first glance but, woops, look at that, some pages went missing!”

The grinding aspect of the game has received overwhelmingly negative feedback, with many players describing it as tedious and frustrating. Reviewers frequently mention the excessive time spent on combat and inventory management, which detracts from the overall enjoyment of the game. While some appreciate the lack of traditional grinding mechanics, they still find the gameplay to be a slog, particularly in the later stages where battles become repetitive and drawn out.
“While excessive grinding can be bad, no grinding option can be a waste of a very enjoyable combat system with character builds and tactics players are eager to try out.”
“There's no grinding in Divinity: Original Sin games -- in the sense that every battle is meaningful, necessary, and well-planned out by the developers.”
“The gameplay isn't too grindy, and the smaller storylines that overlap the main storyline are fun and engaging.”
“Grinding to max level in RPGs can make you too powerful and is usually mind-numbing to achieve.”
“The game is a huge waste of time and life; one of the worst games I've ever played. Farming the same level in a gacha game feels less tedious than playing this 80% of the time; it doesn't feel like playing at all.”
“After a while, the combat becomes so tedious that the storyline and character development cannot overcome it.”

While some users find the bugs to be minor or even add to the charm of the experience, others express frustration over game-breaking issues and the need for frequent saves to avoid losing progress. Overall, while the game runs well on various platforms, its stability remains a concern for many players, especially in multiplayer modes.
“It looks great, runs great and has a minimal amount of technical issues.”
“Technically sound, not a single crash at 128 hours in, and it runs great.”
“The gameplay is fun, the characters are interesting, the graphics are top notch, and the experience is pretty bug free.”
“Very buggy and just tedious at times, disappointing, don't think I'm going to bother finishing act 4.”
“This game is so confusing and the map glitches all the time.”
“A buggy, dragged out game that only got good in the final chapter (which was excellent, gotta give it that).”

The game features diverse and imaginative character designs, each with unique backstories and development arcs, enhancing immersion and replayability. While some critiques mention tedious combat and occasional narrative inconsistencies, the overall consensus highlights the game's exceptional writing, voice acting, and the freedom it provides in character customization and development.
“The game shines brightest in its exceptional writing and character development.”
“I loved the character development in each party member, and while I typically don't revisit games once I've beaten them, I'm very much looking forward to taking another run through this excellent RPG down the road.”
“The character development throughout the game, as well as the relationships between those characters, is phenomenal, and each of the main party members' campaigns are entire stories unto themselves.”
“After a while, the combat becomes so tedious that the storyline and character development cannot overcome it.”
“I felt myself forced to play genocidal because I just cannot stand the character designs and the dialogues; they're absolute jokes and following them is an insult to your intelligence.”
“The plot in general is interesting and has some decent surprises, but I do find the actual writing and character development somewhat unsatisfactory--the characters in this game don't exactly feel 'alive' to me.”

Overall, the game's optimization is generally praised, with many players reporting smooth performance even on lower-end systems. While some users experienced minor performance hiccups, particularly during combat or in later acts, the majority found the game to run well with minimal bugs and impressive graphics. However, a few reviews noted significant performance issues in specific areas, suggesting that optimization could still be improved in certain contexts.
“The game is extremely well optimized, looks great, there's nothing to complain about.”
“Optimization-wise, it holds up admirably, providing a smooth and immersive experience.”
“This game is very well optimized (one of the best I have seen), I ran this on minimum requirements and performance was pretty brilliant.”
“Game is just sadly not optimized well at all for modern hardware.”
“This seems like a great game, but it's so poorly optimized that it's downright unplayable even though I meet the recommended specs.”
“The last area(s) of the game are unnecessarily large (Arx) and just kill the game's performance.”

The atmosphere of the game is widely praised for its immersive qualities, combining stunning visuals, a rich soundtrack, and detailed environments that enhance the overall experience. Players appreciate the dynamic sound design and voice acting, which contribute to a captivating world filled with lore and character depth. The blend of humor and darker themes, along with the game's vibrant aesthetics, creates a unique and engaging atmosphere that draws players into the narrative and gameplay.
“The handcrafted world of Rivellon is breathtakingly beautiful, with lush landscapes, intricate dungeons, and atmospheric lighting that bring it to life.”
“The game's atmospheric soundtrack and sound effects transport you to this magical realm, enhancing the immersion.”
“The atmosphere is beautiful, the characters compelling, and the story is good enough to make you go along with this very exciting adventure.”
“The game's atmosphere is awful.”
“It's just sad how much of that atmosphere was lost in this game; it doesn't feel related to the first one at all.”
“So I must admit after 5-6 hours in the game (19 hours played) I had given up on the story, not because it would be too hard to follow but because it was pointless as nothing I did had any effect. There is no feeling of atmosphere or reason to do anything.”

The emotional aspect of the game is widely praised, with many players expressing deep connections to the characters and their stories, often leading to moments of laughter and tears. The intricate narratives, combined with a powerful soundtrack, create an immersive experience that resonates with players, making them feel invested in the outcomes of their choices. However, some reviews note that while the emotional moments can be impactful, the overall story may not consistently maintain that depth, leading to mixed feelings about the game's emotional engagement.
“From the moment you create your character and choose your origin story, you're thrust into a captivating narrative that unfolds with stunning detail and emotional depth.”
“Each companion's story is so intricately woven and deeply thought out, making it impossible not to get emotionally invested in every character's journey.”
“The emotional impact this game left on me has yet to be matched.”
“A horrible 2/10 game suffering from a lot of UI issues, slow pacing including a long boring intro, save game corruption, boring storytelling that uses the most common features found in all RPGs, game mechanics that are very hard to figure out and make little sense, complex yet with almost non-existent documentation and its own launcher to make even launching the game a chore.”
“It was very slow, with a stupid and boring story, and combat which was tedious and grindy.”
“Top it off with another tired and boring story about the main protagonist being touched by divine power and his ascent to godhood.”

The monetization model of the game has been praised for its absence of microtransactions, DLCs, and paywalls, offering a complete experience upon purchase without any predatory practices. However, some users expressed frustration with the introduction of a launcher that displays ads, which they feel detracts from the overall experience. Overall, the game is seen as a refreshing alternative in a market often dominated by cash grabs and monetization schemes.
“No money grabbing nonsense like important content locked behind a paywall, no microtransactions, just a complete game available immediately upon initial purchase.”
“It is also worth noting that Divinity: Original Sin 2 does not feature any of the predatory monetization schemes that are all too common in games today.”
“This game is such a breath of fresh air in the age of unfinished games peddling loot boxes and microtransactions.”
“The developers of the game put a launcher for it so that you have to waste time waiting for and reading it and the ads for future games on it instead of getting into the game immediately as you should.”
“They injected a launcher after I bought the game that adds 30+ seconds between me launching the game and the game actually launching.”
“I used to have good things to say about this game, but it's been vandalized by a launcher that forces you to view ads for other products and tries to misdirect you into creating other online accounts.”
