  • Relaxing, minimalist aesthetic with clean visuals, soothing music, and intuitive mechanics.
  • Every puzzle is solvable using logic alone, no guessing required; difficulty ramps up nicely with new mechanics introduced gradually.
  • Game is relatively short, typically taking 2 to 4 hours to complete with limited replayability.
  • Some players find the interface and mechanics initially confusing, with occasional perspective issues or unclear adjacency visual cues.
  • Lack of quality-of-life features such as manual reset button, volume controls, and comprehensive tutorial; occasional need for guesswork reported in a few puzzles.
  • gameplay

    162 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The gameplay of "Delete" innovatively expands on classic minesweeper by introducing 3D puzzles and a range of unique, logically consistent mechanics such as rotating blocks and directional clues, all taught gradually without text. While generally relaxing and clever, the game is relatively short, with around 50 handcrafted levels that build complexity steadily but may leave some mechanics underexplored. Overall, it offers a fresh, meditative puzzle experience with intuitive controls and a satisfying learning curve, though some players wish for a longer playtime and more integration of its diverse mechanics.

    • “Drawing inspiration from classic games like minesweeper while incorporating its own distinct mechanics, Delete presents a deeply meditative and methodical experience.”
    • “It starts off with simple examples of each mechanic, then seamlessly increases the difficulty, layers mechanics together, and creates some real challenges by the end of each chapter. My only wish is that there were more, but it's always better to have fewer, higher-quality puzzles than more mediocre ones.”
    • “Quickly, new mechanics similar to Hexcells are introduced: tiles that only point out mines diagonal or perpendicular to them instead of all around them, or mines in a single line. The story goes gently harder with every level and new puzzle mechanics are introduced.”
    • “Unfortunately, the game is too short to make use of each mechanic to its full potential.”
    • “It seemed like every couple levels you'd have a new mechanic thrown in, but it never really let you play with that mechanic very long before throwing in another new one, and then the game ends.”
    • “The over-all difficulty is unfortunately quite low, even considering the necessary tutorialization for all the mechanics.”
  • music

    47 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The music in the game is consistently praised for its relaxing, ambient, and calming qualities, effectively enhancing the meditative and stress-free atmosphere. While minimalistic and sometimes described as repetitive, the soundtrack complements the clean visuals and gameplay without becoming intrusive. A few users note the absence of in-game volume controls as a minor drawback, but overall the music significantly contributes to the enjoyable and soothing experience.

    • “The presentation is excellent: clean visuals, a minimal UI and relaxing music.”
    • “Great ambient soundtrack, all and all 10/10.”
    • “One of the few games where I do not mute the soundtrack, as the minimal aesthetic is well conceived and augments the enjoyment of interaction rather than being annoying.”
    • “Cons: the music is somehow boring, unlike Hexcells despite being similar.”
    • “This is accompanied by a smooth but repetitive sort of new agey soundtrack.”
    • “The music and sound effects are all pretty basic.”
  • graphics

    42 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game features clean, minimalist graphics with a simple, pleasant aesthetic that complements its logical puzzle mechanics and relaxing ambient music. While generally praised for its smooth and thoughtful visual design, some users note minor issues with tile color differentiation and occasional performance lag on lower-end hardware. Overall, the understated visual style effectively supports gameplay without distracting from the puzzle experience.

    • “The presentation is excellent: clean visuals, a minimal UI and relaxing music.”
    • “⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛ 10/10 for clean and good looking graphics.”
    • “The lack of intrusive tutorials, the tough yet fair puzzles, the fabulously geometrical graphics... it all comes together to be one of the finest spur-of-the-moment purchases I've ever made.”
    • “I assume it was intended to support the minimalist aesthetic but I found it to be the only part of the game that lacked the polish I know from the Hexcells series.”
    • “Graphics-wise, I really liked the relative simplicity, though I think there isn't enough difference between the color of normal and highlighted tiles, as well as the global and 'single-color' clues, which made it a bit more difficult than it needed to be.”
    • “Delete's system requirements list the Intel HD Graphics 4000 as a minimum, and that's technically not wrong; the game started and ran on my Surface Pro 3... at about 15fps, with immense lag during certain actions.”
  • replayability

    9 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's replayability is generally considered low due to a limited number of puzzles and lack of features like daily challenges or random level generation. However, some find value in the gameplay for its price, appreciating occasional subtle variations that can offer minor replay appeal. Overall, replay value is minimal and may not justify the cost for players seeking long-term engagement.

    • “The boards are large enough to offer plenty of replay value because you won't remember where most of the mines are, and in some cases you can challenge yourself to tackle certain puzzles in a particular way.”
    • “Not sure how much replay value it has but for less than $2, I've definitely got my money's worth out of it.”
    • “I'm not sure on the replay value but for the price and what I got from it I cannot be happier.”
    • “But that wasn't most of this game, and there's minimal replay value here.”
    • “This also means it has little replay value, but for the price I'd say it's still a good buy.”
    • “If you're considering buying the game, keep in mind that its replayability is very very low.”
  • emotional

    8 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Players find the game emotionally rewarding, as it stimulates a sense of intelligence and accomplishment through challenging puzzles. It offers an engaging mental challenge that makes players feel smart, despite occasional visual difficulties in distinguishing tile adjacency. Overall, the emotional experience is described as a satisfying cognitive ride.

    • “This game made me feel pretty smart.”
    • “An emotional roller coaster.”
    • “It made me feel smart even though I'm not; I like games when they do that.”
  • story

    6 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game "delete" features no traditional story, instead emphasizing pure logic and puzzle-solving with increasing difficulty and new mechanics each level. It forgoes complex narratives and visuals to focus on gameplay challenges.

    • “Sometimes a game needs a complex story and hyper-realistic graphics to be good.”
    • “The story goes gently harder with every level and new puzzle mechanics are introduced.”
    • “No story”
    • “Released in 2018, the game does not try to impress with flashy visuals or complex storytelling—it instead focuses on pure, undistracted logic.”
    • “The 'story' goes gently harder with every level and new puzzle mechanics are introduced.”

    • “Pleasant atmosphere, beautifully chosen color and sound background, delightful little tasks, and a peculiar feeling of nostalgia for something beautiful and exciting.”
    • “The music is quite zen and the atmosphere promotes a simple aesthetic perfect for relaxing on the weekend.”
  • optimization

The game suffers from poor optimization, frequently freezing unexpectedly, which negatively impacts the overall experience despite potential cognitive benefits.

    • “But this game is not optimized well, it continuously freezes without any reason.”

Grinding in the later levels becomes somewhat tedious due to increasing complexity and numerous button combinations, making the experience feel repetitive despite the overall enjoyment.

    • “It does get a bit tedious towards the end on the levels with several buttons, but I still enjoyed it.”
    • “Then on the last 10 levels, the increasing complexity backfires a bit - most of those levels are large, tedious but actually quite easy due to the high number of layout combinations.”
  • stability

    2 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game runs smoothly on SteamPlay with Mint 18.2 and Nvidia drivers, but suffers from frequent unexplained freezes due to poor optimization.
