Colored Effects

The initial fun may soon give way to want; want of less linear design, more balanced difficulty, and (ironically enough) more color, to name just a few things. Colored Effects is fair enough for its budget price. But I’m curious what the developer can do with future releases that’ll hopefully be more fun and polished.

The gameplay features a progressive unlocking of abilities that introduces interesting mechanics, blending platforming and puzzle-solving for a challenging experience. However, after the initial 20 levels, players may find the gameplay repetitive as all main mechanics are already established, a common trait in many platformers.

    • “The abilities are unlocked progressively and make for very interesting mechanics, requiring some thinking outside the box - just the right amount of puzzling and platforming to make the experience challenging and fun.”
    • “Colored effects enhance the full gameplay experience, contributing to all achievements and trophies.”
    • “All of the main mechanics get introduced in the first 20 levels, meaning that afterwards the levels tend to feel repetitive.”
    • “Many platformers have this mechanic, and the ones that don't feel really awkward to jump with.”
    • “Colored effects - full gameplay - all achievements/trophies.”
  • music

The music in the game, particularly the puzzle tracks, is generally well-received initially but becomes repetitive and tedious over time, leading to some frustration among players.

    • “The puzzle music, in particular, gets repetitive over time.”
    • “My only gripe with the game is the music.”
  • grinding

0% positive mentions, 0% neutral mentions, 100% negative mentions

Players find the grinding aspect of the game to be a mixed experience; while the variety of levels and power-ups keeps the gameplay engaging, the repetitive nature of the music can become tedious over time. Overall, the balance of challenges prevents the grinding from feeling overly monotonous.

  • humor

The humor in the game is noted to be subtle, with a mix of light-hearted moments and serious challenges, particularly during boss fights that are described as intense rather than comedic.
