The graphics of "Coffin Dodgers" are generally described as colorful and cute, fitting the game's lighthearted theme, though they are often criticized for being low-poly and somewhat dated, reminiscent of older mobile games rather than modern console titles. While some players appreciate the charming aesthetic and interesting graphic models, others find the visuals lack depth and detail, leading to a mixed reception overall. Despite these criticisms, the graphics are considered one of the stronger aspects of the game, contributing to its appeal as a fun, albeit simplistic, kart racer.
“Finally, the graphics are quite possibly one of the best parts of the game as each level is colorful and fits perfectly, especially in the final track which is all of the tracks put together into one massive track.”
“Coffin Dodger gets the most important aspects of the genre right: good controls, appealing graphics, a decent variety of pickups strewn throughout each track, and a garage to upgrade your kart.”
“The graphics, although nothing spectacular, are colorful and refreshing for gaming in our times as racing games have switched to a more realistic approach, and while this is good, it also means we lose cool and charming little games like this.”
“The graphics are okay, but fairly low-poly which suffices for the tracks themselves, but the characters could have used a few more polygons to look a bit more appealing.”
“The gameplay feels dated before it starts as it doesn't progress things from the karting pretenders that have come before, and the visuals sort of fittingly feel like they're from an older generation.”
“With unbalanced upgrades, a small selection of modes, with the open world option being a disposable choice, and graphics that are more in line with a mobile phone game than a PS4 title, this is a game that had strong potential to be good, but the end result is a game riding with flat tires and a jittery engine.”

The story in "Coffin Dodgers" is characterized as short and quirky, featuring a humorous premise where senior citizens race against the grim reaper on modified mobility scooters. While some players appreciate the originality and comedic elements, many criticize the brevity and lack of depth, with the entire story mode often completed in under two hours. Overall, it offers a lighthearted experience but may not provide enough content for extended replayability.
“Coffin Dodgers is a quality kart racing game with a unique storyline: a group of senior citizens soup up their mobility scooters to take on the grim reaper in a series of races to the death.”
“The story is original and pretty funny.”
“I enjoyed the story mode, especially with its amusing ending.”
“The so-called story is very poorly done.”
“I completed the story with both endings in about 2 hours.”
“The 'story' is extremely short and there isn't a great amount of tracks either.”

The gameplay of "Coffin Dodgers" is characterized by simple and addictive mechanics, though it suffers from clumsy controls and a lack of variety, leading to a repetitive experience. While some players appreciate the humor and nostalgic visuals, many criticize the game for its limited modes and dated feel compared to better alternatives. Overall, it offers a fun experience for casual play, but significant improvements are needed to elevate it above its competitors.
“The humor, graphics, and gameplay make Coffin Dodgers the best alternative to other kart racers.”
“The controls are simple, and the gameplay is fun and addictive.”
“There's enough weapons to keep the gameplay mixed, and you can upgrade your karts such as power and acceleration.”
“With repetitive and shockingly unvaried gameplay, clumsy controls, uninspired audio, and a lack of game modes one would expect in any racing game, the attempt at visual nostalgia wasn't near enough to make this game worth the time or money of even a single play session.”
“All things considered, while the game's concept has some initial charm, I can't recommend it with the current state of its gameplay, especially when there are better, cheaper options available.”
“The gameplay feels dated before it starts as it doesn't progress things from the karting pretenders that have come before, and the visuals sort of fittingly feel like they're from an older generation.”

The music in the game receives mixed reviews, with some players appreciating its relaxing qualities and thematic variations across different zones. However, many express frustration over the repetitive nature of the menu music, which loops every 45 seconds, and a general lack of variety in the soundtrack. Overall, while the music has its moments, it is often described as uninspired and can become annoying over time.
“I relaxed for 5 minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay.”
“The music is pretty damn awesome.”
“There's some nice differences that denote the various zones, but it would have been nice if there were more varied ambient sounds and perhaps spooky music when you head down into the crypts beneath the town.”
“Menu music loops every 45 seconds, which gets annoying.”
“Plus, the music gets annoying after 10 minutes; play the demo and imagine hearing that in a loop.”

The game experiences significant stability issues, particularly during split-screen couch gaming and full lobbies, often resulting in frustrating loading screen freezes. While the gameplay is enjoyable and the map variety is commendable, these stability problems detract from the overall experience.
“Freezes anytime split-screen couch gaming is attempted.”
“I can't (and don't wish to) recall how many times a good full lobby has been killed off by one of the many loading screen freezes.”
“Good assortment of maps, no obvious glitches.”

The game's optimization has received mixed reviews, with some players experiencing significant performance issues such as stuttering and low frame rates even on low settings. While it runs smoothly for some, others have reported it causing motion sickness in VR and criticized its mediocre optimization given its outdated graphics. Additionally, the online component is noted to be lacking, further detracting from the overall experience.
“It runs smoothly and plays pretty well.”
“I attempted to play this in VR, and it has been the only game to successfully come close to giving me motion sickness due to how poor the optimization is.”
“The negative points to take into consideration are that online is dead, optimization is mediocre for having quite antiquated graphics, and some of the achievements are obnoxious (e.g., win an online race on Christmas, Halloween, Valentine's, Monday-Friday, etc.).”
“Quite the terrible performance; even in 1080p with low settings and anti-aliasing off, I get ridiculous stuttering and low framerate.”

Coffin Dodgers Review
What we're trying to say is: stay away from Coffin Dodgers. It's a humorous concept, but clearly not one that supports a whole game. The awful racing and abysmal presentation are the biggest offenders here, but it's a game with problems weaving all the way through it. If these problems could all be rectified with patches, it could become a fun time-waster, but on release, it's just not in good condition. Poor track design, unattractive visuals, repetitive music, lack of content... We could go on, but we think you get the picture.

Coffin Dodgers is a classic example of a good idea backed up by poor execution. The gameplay feels dated before it starts as it doesn't progress things from the karting pretenders that have come before, and the visuals sort of fittingly feel like they're from an older generation. The premise has lashings of potential and there's a chuckle or two to be found, but the game is far too easy and brief for single players. Multiplayer is limited to offline play only and is as enjoyable as in every other non-Mario and non-Crash Bandicoot-based kart game, which is to say that it won't be one that you'll be trotting out at your gaming parties for very long.
